  1. Your recent post needs editing - you've left out an important word.  Peter

      Edited with thanks.

  2. Your garage is Just like those of the rest of us then.
  3. Well for some reason a post that did not work when submitted has come up now, as did one last evening. Anyway Happy Birthday Chris - last seen at Nottingham a year or two ago. Let us hope that the many black dogs appearing, the idea of 'not wanting to do anything' seems to getting almost universal, will be kennelled later this pm. Maybe even some m**ing may come back. Perhaps too we may see a view of the 'cement lake' . Why oh why must the news permanently discuss what might be on Monday - this is the sort of thing that causes the confusion rather than the actual with people 'believing' and thus 'jumping the gun'. 'What about FB shooting itself in the foot? Enough said - rant over. Enough said.
  4. Wisdom as usual with the evidence to back it. Hopefully a speedy non-coved recovery for Simon and the vanishing of the black dog for Andy.
  5. This came up with a post that was before the one before so hope there was not a repeat.! Not normally fond of organs but enjoyed it so thanks Neil. SWMBO just back from her jab. We were not really early but waiting in the car for much longer than anticipated. Apparently the one before SWMBO fainted/got woosy at the sight of the needled needed treatment before managing the jab. SWMBO had a different jab from me and was surprised when told that she didn't have to wait. Knowing her reaction to the flu jab and Andyram and others comments we will see how it effects apart from her current sore arm. Meanwhile a van delivery to the surgery blocked the parking space but was happy when I replied "Not to worry we are not in a hurry". It appears that many not registered at our surgery were also having jabs in the next door leisure centre as numerous cars drove down its drive at regular intervals.
  6. Great work and support all round - sounds like a great place to work.
  7. Geologically little of the land mass has just stood still ... so there it is.
  8. Ours was a geology field trip - too long ago to remember the details although Pembroke impressed me that much that have since visited although did not recognise much viz Sumer compared with February ?1964? or thereabouts.

    Cheers, Peter

Thanks for sharing, Peter. I was born in 1964, and who could've known that, only 56 years later, I would learn of your geology field trip in that very same auspicious year.

Is there a way of letting Sir Tim Berners-Lee know how many lives he's touched in this way?

I lost my cherry on a field trip, but it was a bit later than 1964, shame that Datsun was never found.

  9. Have worked through all the pages generally not recognising most of the originals/covers mentioned. House of the Rising Sun I did for some the reason below have always liked by the association. On a field trip (Gwier may have done the same Pembrokeshire one some years later) we were staying in a 'hotel' with no heating (just come to mind was that it snowed and going into a shop told the proprietor whose response was 'It never snows here'). Anyway a gaming evening was planned and I was looking forward to it until that is 'they' decided to play for money' so that participants would play to win. That was me out when you play, although you hope to enjoy, the aim is to win. Watching proved interesting and for some caused real financial grief at which point the music in the background was 'House of the Rising Sun'. It has stuck in mind and the cover above has given me a generally rather pleasant remembrance of the field trip.
  10. Cover version and original - sorry guys haven't a clue, the 'pop' music scene did not interest me, I either liked a song or didn't - that was it. Perhaps one thing that was not known at the time was the frustration of not being able to make out the words - an unknown hearing defect was eventually discovered in my 50s. I do still have a set of Buddy Holly records. Peggy Sue was a very much liked one. Somewhere I have Bill Haleys Rock Around the Clock and 'Alligator' and did like the Shadows Foot Tapper. Peter Paul and Mary, Nina and Frederick and I do still have Elvis's '78' Love Me Tender that was given to me by the then girlfriend. Perhaps I enjoyed rather more than at first thought. My brother heard the Stones before they became famous. My main interest was brass banding - two practices a week and especially playing out in bandstands.
  11. Half an hour went 'just like that' - superb. One slight problem, to hear you the sound needed to be set high but when the information plus music came on between each 'take' SWMBO was not too happy.
  12. No charts in my day but can remember Violet Carson singing on BBC Childrens' Hour ... she became Ena Sharples in a new soap a while later! Completely off-topic but the last episode of Dick Barton Special Agent has just come to mind - lousy reception and replaced by The Archers - an everyday story of country folk - the week after.
  13. Still have my washboard. LD was also a cousin of my second boss.
  14. To me 'elf and safety' is the term I think of when someone is using health and safety as an excuse for not doing something that they do not want to do and stopping something 'sfairs' safe, hence giving health and safety a bad press and the subsequent reticence of some to ignore appropriate health and safety. I also had H&S training along the line and find that even after years of retirement still look at things that way first.
  15. Everybody whose birth has been registered will have a recorded NHS number whether registered with a GP or not. Those who do not have one are probably 'illegal' immigrants because they have 'gone underground' or refugees not yet through the system. The 'two edged sword' is there to (try) to make sure that no-one is missed.
  16. Currently the only way to get sufficient electricity to power all the cars plus the houses etc. is via nuclear - solar is one thing but the only way to get that is using acres of farmland - house panels will not get enough 'charge' to deliver for the cars as well. Also noted that the range of electric cars at present is limited. There was some research that 'found' a 'battery' that was very efficient and 'almost free' but you can guess who put a stop to that ... rather like cigarette companies funding research some years back with a bias. Truly seem to be on the 'warpath' this am ... anyone else not happy with Cu***ys customer service? Ending on a positive note - Happy Birthday Sheila.
  17. Rant - Having experience of caravans on drives and the overall effect on the area it would pay to have a word otherwise you will end up with caravans everywhere and the cars on the street - diabolical. If people want caravans they should pay to have them stored appropriately. The council should not be turning a blind eye to this.
  18. Interesting comparison we used to use Fahrenheit and of course 98.4 Fwas the temperature we all 'aimed for' with almost any variation a cause for concern and if it reached 100F plus all h**l was let loosened you may well have been isolated (viz. Scarlett Fever). 36.8 C with a little variation is now the common use so leopardml2341 could be said to be 'normal'. That changed too. - old days 98.4F normal these days 36.8+- is given a range just like pathology laboratory results and therefore open to interpretation.
  19. Ours state that we cannot have a caravan on our drive.
  20. Great Koala work by the dental guy. Today marks fifty years of writing xy new pence on cheques - remember the change well and the 'documents' e.g. 10 + 5 = 15 rather than the expected 'conversion rates' from basis 12 to basis 10. It did of course become a good excuse for upping prices as will Covid in a time when for tax reasons those needing will suffer while those companies like Am***on effectively paying little tax get rich. Happy birthday to the new 'lady pensioner' - Sheila.
  21. Iain Rice featured in one of the DVDs issued with BRM TV ?2018 or was it on the one they did at the Motor Museum?
  22. Hope you end up 'negative'. Temperature wise I'll believe it when I feel it. (Barry - not aware of a PM)
  23. Yes, stupid idea to think that it should be cancelled so thought I like to be 'part of it' this time but, the process to sort out is long and has many problems on the way to try and fill in all the various forms takes hours. They have a help-line or/and email to ask about problems but ... keep telling me that I have not 'completed' and before they answered the query said that I was out of time (3-days). Will I complete? ...
  24. So England did a bit better after an Italian shock although I thought that they Italians played rather well. Bit disappointed with the Scotland Wales result but that young Wales wing ... Wish IDs cake was here - looks rather nice to say the least ... but PolyBear left 'on a secret mission' ... First word for elder son was 'Florence' - said just the once very very clearly. Florence was our cat so we must have called her rather often as in later years she became just 'FloFlo'. No snow in South Derbyshire but b***dy cold. Our 'pet' pigeon ( a Swedish variety apparently) came to his table and refused to eat and just sat, looked and stared... on checking the food on the table was frozen so SWMBO put out some fresh and almost before she had put it on he was there. Had the rare sight of a magpie yesterday and for some reason the wrens, sparrows, dunnets and blackbirds just 'disappeared'. Best day in ages for young son - hope it is the first of many many in years to come.
