95 000 plus views of Bitton so far - wow ... look at all the time we could have spent modelling! Peter

Mick, I have seen this in a house as well ... when asked about it the owners said that it kept blowing the fuse - perhaps they did not want to admit who wired it all up - so they used the take-away just across the road! Subsequently on checking we found out that whoever had 'fitted' the kitchen did not seem to know the difference between live and neutral terminals . It all needed replacing. Peter

Andy, Ray and Jeff, ... and uncle Tom Cobley an'al An Interesting discussion about circuits or endings on DCC. As Andy says our club layout has a single continuous bus bar (red and black and close together). At our recent Mince Pie weekend we had no track supply problems at all neither DC nor DCC and we have quite a long length approx. 100 feet. As far as I can recall the diameter is no bigger than 1.5mm. Peter

Like this one and use of the vice to make cutting off the insulation will solve a problem. Just a note on the wire ... in the 'old' black and red system cooker wire was the 6125, much thicker than 2.5 mm which was the 'normal' for ring mains. Peter

Using track for the bus bar maybe OK on a permanent layout but we need to remember that some exhibition sites would not take kindly to 'open' i.e. non-insulated 'wire' on an exhibition layout. Peter

You should see him going when the solvent hits the air - its a sight for soar sore soar eyes!
  7. Hi Guys, Isopropyl alcohol is even better than methylated spirits ... it kept our tracks running continuously at our Mince Pie weekend ... approx 12 hours of running. Peter
  8. Andy, Thanks for that - as you say it may be better in its original format. I have some photographs of it then so may be able to put it back as was. It will of course give me more freedom in terms of track laying on Rothleigh ... be less 'cluttered' and therefore more enjoyable to run. Cheers Peter
  9. Duncan, Thanks for the kind words. Look forward to seeing you at Stafford - Andy and George T will also spend some time operating Deesdale Road. Note: Andy keeps on reminding me that an earlier photograph with a 'fiddle yard' section label is in fact a former layout - 'Fiddlers Yard' currently being incorporated into Rothleigh. It is causing some 'problems' in terms of the originally planned main line running so that may change - time will tell. Peter

Enjoyed the visit ... watching a craftsman at work. Careful now, you said you would take it easy and let Lee do the woodwork! Peter

Andy, There must be a bit at the club - you know we never seem to throw anything away until the week before we have our open weekends. Peter

Hi Ray, I too tried to 'rest' baseboards on top of cupboards and initially it looked fine but, the inevitable movement of the wood with changing temperatures started to affect the 'fit' between adjacent baseboards. In the end I decided to fix them all down onto a framework. No doubt I will regret it when needing to change wires or points especially in the cupboard areas but that's the name of the game and like everything else on the rmweb somebody comes up with the answers. Looks brilliant and the weathering! ... Its about time that I came and had another look. Cheers, Peter
  14. Retirement ... had an appraisal today ... it appears that last year I thought that I would have retired by now. Reorganisation is coming so perhaps, depending on 'politics' that will come later in 2015 but at present I am lucky to have a very rewarding job. Hopefully this time I will be able to attach a picture of the said sign so ... Cheers, Peter Thanks Andy - its worked! P
  15. Thanks for that. I will need to edit the photograph because it is greater than 1MB ... but tomorrow will do - got to get up early for work. Cheers, Peter

Hi Jock, Hope it soon passes ... but not onto somebody else! Peter
  17. Hi Andy, Thanks for that. Pictures - there are no more at present - you don't want to see the dump. Will take one of Grandad's Engine Shed and post it. file:///Users/PeterBB/Desktop/Grand_Eng_Shed_141225.JPG Picture did not appear will send you a PM Peter Cheers, Peter

  19. Hi Guys, Christmas gave me a new hand made sign 'Grandads Engine Shed' which will take pride of place (after the station sign of course). Actually opened the 'Engine Shed' which looked more like a dump. Still frustration at the lack of progress on the layouts because we are still working on 'the property' - lots of 'little things' causing considerable problems. Don't think we will use either the main supplier nor the same tradesmen again. Back to work tomorrow - will probably be like a rest! Happy New Year Guys, Peter Hi George, Hope you can make Stafford cheers, Peter

Hi Guys, The cant worked well over the Mince Pie weekend ... just a little external 'lift' ... but it looked good. Peter

Agree with both comments - yes, it does. Never thought to use it on track but it was fantastic in sticking carpet oddments together on the floor - I'm not up to Andy's flooring standards - polystyrene base - but it still feels warm underfoot. Peter
  25. The 3-way point ceased to work and could not be rep;aced in the available length. Reluctantly therefore we now have an abandoned section ... likely to be used for track maintenance storage. Some new point motors and signal lights have been installed. The timber ends added have made it heavier but far easier to transport (two bolted sections instead of 4 bits) so will be less likely to be damaged in transit. Stafford looms next month and still some work to do ... those pesky class 66 locos! PBB
