  1. How cute is that !!!!!! I can't imagine how hard it is to go through a process of grieving for a loved pet and getting to the point of being able to welcome a new one into the family I hope you will all be very happy
  2. from 20th October 1979. Photos taken from a moving train so apologies for quality
  3. Fair comment - for balance I am sure there were as many police officers who have endured similar violence during the Blair administration who were not in agreement with his policies. The point being that demonstrators assume police officers agree with the policy the demonstrators are demonstrating against, whereas all we (now they) are doing is keeping the peace upholding the law and protecting public safety.
  4. Yep, like having bottles bricks and petrol bombs thrown at you because the nation has the worst prime minister ever ( M.Thatcher ) and everybody hates the poll tax. Sadly M. Thatcher is nowhere to be seen so they throw the stuff at the Police instead, many of whom (myself included) hated her and her policies as much as the crowd.
  5. So you didn't notice the awesome body-on-the-line performances contributing to a record of three goals conceeded in 4 Euro 2012 matches then? The commentators did. The only difference between JT for England and JT for Chelsea is that he's not captain because he's being punished in advance for an offence he was subsequently found not guilty of.
  6. I think they were mostly booing Neymar for pretending to have a brain haemorrhage because somebody's arm brushed his head. They need something to keep them awake. You take your entertainment wherever you can get it at England GB games.
  7. All football managers, sitting as they do with their substitutes, will be used to being in the dugout with a couple of planks!!!!
  8. Still smacks of double jeopardy to me. He's been tried and acquitted in a court of law. Don't see how the FA can justify applying a different level of proof to the same charge. Also, where;s the consistency unless they are going to charge every footballer seen swearing at or insulting another player on camera. In which case they will all be on bans and I might even get a game at the bridge!
  9. I like the fact that my organisation has a legal department. Suggests the rest of us are illegal!
  10. just in case anyone is in any doubt about the level of insult Rio Ferdinand levelled at Ashley Cole on twitter I can enlighten you. My first wife was black British and because she was married to me she heard the term Choc Ice a few times - it means Black on the outside, White on the inside ( a traitor in other words ) Make no mistake it's about as insulting as you can get and it's a phrase calculated to reinforce racial intolerance. In the 1970s and 80s the equivalent phrase in english was "white *******" with a word I woudnt even type here, but I sense you will realise what it was. Just seen on sky sports news that the FA and Police are both considering taking action. Watch this space. (edit for stop press!)
  11. Anybody see what good value for money we get from our court system? The trial was on sky sports news all day wednesday when I was home. They started a bit after 1030 (you wouldnt want to get in too early as a highly paid magistrate would you?) Went to lunch before 1230, and eventually crawl back for 2pm. Then finished for the day by 330pm. That's less than half a day's work for the rest of us mere mortals. No wonder the court system costs us millions. Seriously, once these highly paid people that run the courts, and all the witnesses and legal teams are assembled in one place, they should crack on and get the job done. Show some respect to the victims and witnesses that have to turn up, lose wages etc etc - cases are taking far longer than necessary. I also agree with peoples' comments about it being a waste of time. A "he said she said" case where the primary victim admits not hearing what was said at the time and was only told about it later would have been laughed at by the CPS if it wasn't for the high profile of the individuals concerned. They would say the profile made it a public interest trial, but where's the public interest in treating famous people differently to the rest of us?
  12. The magistrate did not rule whether or not John Terry is a racist. That was not the allegation. It was alleged that he committed a racially aggravated public order offence - i.e. that he used "threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour" which were likely to cause "harassment, alarm or distress" and that the alleged offence was racially aggravated. There was no dispute in court that the words were uttered - so the question for the magistrate was whether Mr Terry had uttered them as an insult. The points to prove are that the behaviour was threatening, abusive or insuting the behaviour was likely to cause harassment alarm or distress the offence was motivated by racism (without this it is a simple public order act offence, not racially aggravated) The magistrate clearly felt that the first point was not proven. The rest is history. As an aside, I can recall from personal experience that it is hard in the heat of a very difficult situation to maintain your calm and not be fooled into repeating insulting words that have been said to you or you have witnessed. As a police officer I arrested an individual for a similar offence and when I told him he was under arrest he responded by asking me to tell him what he said. I very nearly did, before realising the implications of so doing, in public and stopping myself short. I leave others to decide whether we ask too much of our young sportsmen to never over-react or get involved in abuse when it seems totally acceptable for people on the terraces to use extremely hurtful and provocative language towards the players with little or no consequences. The court heard some of the apalling things that are said to John Terry week in week out. Let he who is without sin.........
  13. Don't know so much Dave, before you rush to change it, take a look at my photos on post #642 - January 1980 and that ballast looks pink to me, and pretty close to your current stuff.
  14. Sadly for you, les dos Davides only have tapas money and those delicacies you are looking at are definitely a la carte (oops French not Spanish)
  15. I have tried to check this question has not been asked but as 4TC is too few digits to search for I apologise if I have missed it. Am I right in thinking that the 4TC is in effect an unpowered VEP and this is therefore an opportunity to buy for people who do not want to do third rail? one could buy a non running 33 off Ebay and it would make a good formation.
  16. Do you mean this??? Devonshire Dart railtour 8th July 1984. Totnes on the way west, Hemerdon on the way home 20184 and 169
  17. Yogi made a Boo Boo (I tried not to but I couldn't help myself!!!)
  18. Yes I realise in the world of wikipedia nothing is a secret. I may as well release people from their misery. The band allegedly derived their name from a piece of graffiti that founder Jimmy Pursey saw on a wall. It originally said Walton and Hersham '69 but had partly faded away, and made reference to when Walton & Hersham F.C. secured the Athenian League title in 1969. Actually quite a good area for musical talent IMHO as Gary Numan is from Staines, and Paul Weller is from Woking. Status Quo's Rick Parfitt and Francis Rossi both frequent the area and the Stranglers were formed in Guildford. Perhaps its music connections are better than its footballing pedigree )
  19. Not that I know of. Hurry up 'arry was a cover for the release of a song about the band being banned from going to the USA. (A bit like Jasper Carrot's funky moped was really releasing the banned "magic roundabout") Their other hit was if the kids are united, but it wasnt that kind of United!
  20. Anybody know the football connection with the name sham '69? I'll give you a while before I tell you............................
  21. No but there's a couple of hundred social workers who would )
  22. He wasn't killing them, they just didn't understand his problem, so they misjudged him
  23. Explains a lot though, now it's out in the open LOL
  24. Anyone want to open up the goal line technology debate again?????
