  1. Interesting.

For Writhlington, the exercise was to build with ST Code 100, and I soon ran into problems

of having the splice points together at convenient spots. I was soon down to ST242/3.

The assembly has flexibility for lining up, but needs a lot of making good and replacing of

    sleepers before final laying.

Rail joins in red; to span a stream with room for under baseboard PL10's

There are several other points, with similar treatments as DavidCBroad.

At 34mm diam, and 12 spokes I think if the spokes were thickend to 1mm

or more, you would have a good "shock taking"  wheel.

The drive could also have an intermediate pulley that would take up shock.

With a continuous "cables" I don't see the need for much ballast - the cables

will pull down as well as up.the incline.

Interesting link. I think Bill Bedford has carried out similar experiments.
In general, the vegetable oil being used is a great improvement over the

previous heavy wax from Shapeways, and cleans with a good brush-up

from a toothbrush and washing-up liquid.

Does anyone have long term experience of various adhesives holding?

  3. Etched Pixels:-

It is too fine for the lost wax minimum parameters.

FUD can be very brittle in cold temperatures, but has an amazing

property of returning to shape if it becomes distorted.

I think for Don's application, he needs to consider a sprung jockey

wheel to take-up any shock. For 3 ropes on the sheave in a picture

he has available, I think the rims will be fairly strong. Of course any

unsupported torque drilling the boss is likely to cause damage.

It is possible I had your original query for Bridenorth Cliff Railway, working against the handicap of

    exchanging e-mails on eBay.

I have supplied these to various sizes up to 100mm. This wheel has 38 spokes at 48mm

and for 3D-print limitations would have to reduce the numbers to get down to 34mm - your

    12 would do it.

The cost is in FUD as the material for the detail.

For years I have looked at  the Pollens, and never found a kit. I did mess around with some

white metal castings, but it never came to anything.

Your suite of pictures got me going again with the advent of Shapeways moving to the US. It

was also an excellent find in Penaluna Design Studios to initiate the original Pollen C. The

Pollen E followed, and the help on this Forum has been tremendous, particularly from "Castle"

and his on-site surveys that have added additional detail to do justice to the model. Feedback

has also helped with edits to the drawings.

Detail in 3D printing is expensive, so the Post-1930 models are based on real world practice,

of using the pre-1930 84998-84999 for the model in WSF, with the detail on the Post-1930 Rebuild

in FUD. The add-on in FUD also supplies the fine detail for the brake handles. Because there is

limited side play for the axles, a sprue of flangeless centre wheels is also supplied as an option.

  6. BEWARE !!!!

Generally, a warm wash with washing-up liquid and Halfords Spray Can of Gray Primer

    is being used safely

In any case, check on something that can be cheaply replaced, like the turntable.

I have looked  at the Crocodile L. but was put off on the sheer cost of the print.
The best way would be to produce the trucks, and for the modeller to fabricate

the rest with Evergreen sections. I think it would only be suitable for very large

    layouts.

I have a white metal OO Coral, and the brackets are in a sorry state because of

the material: it would be a good candidate, but I have no wish to cross anyone

    else's project.

With the Pollens we are looking to fit and supply ballast because they are light.

This is the solution of one modeller had for the Pollen C:-

    post-12739-0-86131100-1373699666.jpg

And of course rub-on transfers, when you know who in deepest Wales can get to it.

  8. Colin & MIB,

Both of your kits are with edits we picked-up this week-end,

and due for dispatch to you on the 19th.

These kits have gone to South Africa and Australia, but it

has been difficult until now, getting them into the UK.
    - Problem solved.

Comments have been good, and it is taking time to get

    awareness of the models.

  9. In later years BR ran them with GW lettering, POLLEN E  http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/gwrgirdwagpollen  They were NOT preserved at that time.

    Paul

The livery is entirely the choice of the modeller.

The models follow the pre-1930 84998 & 84999, all with current Didcot turntables.

to form that 4 wagon rake. - because I model that era.

The pictures posted above are today's post-1930 rebuild, when buffer ends were added to

    84998 & 84999.

    post-12739-0-17564000-1371264794.jpg

    - I will only do these if there is demand.

Castle's, "A full set" would therefore be today's individually running two buffered pairs , whereas

my model is the true pre-1930 4-wagon set.

The items are available VAT inclusive on eBay.

(January 2014 - 84997-84998 now available Post 1930, per above pictures)

  10.  I'm tempted to do the Pollen E but I'm not sure whether the models available are representative of what was running in 1920?

    Richard,

Your Pollen C model was specially drawn for EM with Pendon in mind, and yours is in FUD.

The tops of the wheel arches provided bearing surfaces for loads to move and the "lump" of an

RSJ on the turntable was provided in the model to match this.

We have worked as close as practicable for the manufacturing process from the NRM Drawings.

The E is available only in OO. The model offered is the pair 84997 & 85000.

The center wagons pre 1930 rebuild, 84998 & 84999 are also available on application, to assemble

the full 4-wagon configuration. They have the handbrake in the middle of the side plate. Both pair have

interconnecting brake handle rods. There may be problems with these 6 wheel models on sharp curves.

There is no room for side axle play, and we are in the process of putting flangeless center wheels on the

sprue, as an option to filing off a set of flanges. This pair may be redrawn with the buffer ends conversion

    if there is sufficient interest.

The E turntables are modeled from the current Didcot wagons.

The OO models listed on eBay are VAT Incl. ex. Shapeways in WSF with less defined rivet detail and a FUD

sprue of small parts sent under separate cover. All OO models are supplied with sprue, wheels, and couplings

to give a rolling model. The model require ballast. On shapeways.com the items are available in FUD for the

extra rivet detail - and no beer money for a year!

There is currently a set of Colliery Sheave Wheels available, as an exercise in pushing the process to the limits

    for detail at this scale.

    Other models are in development.

  11. Hello Mark,

First off here's the GWR Coral A Wagon. This was won off ebay several years ago along with several other wagons which included Iron Minks, Cattle Wagons and a SR Open Wagon. I must admit I didn't think I would win but luck was on my side with this one. One of my favourities and a talk of the wagon collection I will say.

I too have this model in white metal from over 20 years ago. The angle supports suffer

the same problems as the prototype, maybe a model ready for treatment with new

    techniques..
