  1. It's been over 6 years since my first blog on the subject so here finally is an update on the Dean Goods situation. Two have been seen testing goods trains on my track as I needed tender engines for the job. Both have recently acquired tenders. They are in the fiddle yards awaiting the next task. The first, number 2306, features the rods from the initial blog, on a compensated Comet chassis. It's mainly an old Mallard kit with a narrowed footplate and some alternative parts surplus to requirements from a Martin Finney kit. The second, 2478, has a High Level chassis with another Mallard fooplate and cab plus some scratch building above deck. I has an old Jidenco tender. It will be finished in the pre 1908 livery hence the red Ultrascale wheels Next there is a plan to try out a sprung Comet chassis though both two these might get converted to DCC before that; not to mention the ballasting
  2. Progress has continued at a glacial pace. Platforms and loading dock added in preparation for ballasting having finally glued down all the chairs. Might get to dig the foundations for the station building now sometime soon. View from the bridge (well it would be once I've built it):
  3. Larry, I too have built my layout with open-frame baseboards and the plywood track base too is cambered (a lamination of 2 x 6mm birch ply). The maximum cant on the LNWR was 6" which is 2mm in 4mm so I stuck 2 x 1mm plywood sleepers onto the outside risers before attaching the ply road bed. Cork was also then stuck on top of all his before laying track. It worked for me and avoided any major sanding. Peter
  4. Or you could buy a High Level chassis. Highly recommended; just a satisfied customer.
  5. A replacement machine has come and hoping to start production for the Cooper Craft, Mailcoach & Kirk LNER in the near future. From their website (could be old news). Also there are some instructions (under "instructions") for the Cattle Wagon which might explain the brakes
  6. I have a K’s 322 Beyer Goods in my unbuilt kit mountain
  7. And why do you have a woman in SS Uniform in your adverts or have I missed something?
  8. In the absence of the original artwork, it would not be impossible to reproduce LNWR Portrayed, as it is, from a good clean copy as it is mainly black and white line drawings. However, received wisdom is that there are errors and the question remains how and by whom should these be addressed. Peco would probably not object to the LNWRS undertaking this.
  9. By which time the livery would be at least 23 years old; possible but highly unlikely to have survived that long.
  10. Aah this is an automated google link that would have been created without human intervention. It's obviously picked the wrong caption but then a google robot is highly unlikely to be able to tell the difference between the same loco in 1908 and 1935 Great Western green livery. We're all going to have to get used to this stuff as robots take over.
  11. Dodgy information? The caption for his image on the Brassmasters site actually reads: "Dean Goods no. 2487 with round top boiler and coal-railed tender in post -1908 period livery." ? The 1935 refers to the prior image.
  12. Good to see another fellow P4 LNWR modeller (though I do have a foot in the GWR too). Where did you come by the information that Lilleshall supplied loco coal to the GWR please? I thought they used Welsh steam coal exclusively.
  13. Those axle box springs are also a different shape to the earlier ones on the Oxford tender. 247 Developments sell some like that.
  14. I've now found a measuring tool in Photoshop that is good for scaling drawings directly in Photoshop
  15. At ScalefourNorth I made the leap into DCC tempted by the lure of steam sounds. Both the 517 no. 835 and Webb Coal Tank 549 (in progress) have had decoders fitted but no sound as of yet: Both can be seen here. All seems to be working:
  16. Yes Coal Tanks in progress. More detail on my blog: http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/blog/1104/entry-20581-lnwr-coal-tank-chassis-take-2/
  17. Thanks Coach, sorry I missed your earlier post where you had the Taffy Tank sound file replaced by the 28xx. I am currently finishing off a couple of Dean Goods which I am going to sound enable. Just wondering which YouChoos sound files to get. I was tempted by the 56xx. Peter
  18. According to the Martin Finney instructions, the narrow footplate ceased at 2450 so Coach is OK with the wider footplate though it would have had fluted rods when built but these were probably replaced by plain ones later. For 2309, in addition to the narrow footplate, it would also have had a straight reversing lever. I am currently building 2306 in such a fashion which is why I've looked into this. Edit: to add pic. Note also balance weights on all wheels
  19. Is the Tender filler correct on these? It is correct for the earlier GWR fully lined version (pre WW1) but in later years (i.e. BR) it would have had a separate filler and scoop fountain dome which looks completely different.
  20. Hi Coach Which of the sound files is in this Dean Goods? I had no problems viewing it. Cheers Peter
  21. It's 30p at Manchester Piccadilly and Liverpool Lime Street too but still free to pee at Manchester Oxford Road, Warrington, Chester and Crewe
  22. Current tally is 79 bids on 26 items. Must be a lotto winner
  23. There's a toplight now at £181.00! https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SLATERS-COACH-KIT-for-GWR-57-TOPLIGHT-COMPOSITE-COACH-Diag-E88-OO-Gauge/292538892487?hash=item441cad40c7:g:CgoAAOSwwNRa4aPK Slaters may well reintroduce these soon as they now have the range back; hopefully at more reasonable prices.
  24. Jol, the original reference gave the number as 1418 which according Baxter was indeed S DX and is listed as: Accident Penmaenmawr 12/1/99. Survived till 4/1924 so must have been repaired. Peter
