  1. What an incredible body of work King Crimson produced. Respect to Sir Fripp.

Did Sir Bob play on Fashion or was that really Adrian Belew?

  2. Thanks for all that dimensional information, Ian. Goes to show how FUD can be made to look excellent even in 2mm scale. P.S. Tapered headstocks on the wooden solebar version???? (I can't recall seeing a wooden sb W2, but it seems a bit odd in style terms.)
  3. The venting slats in the sides have come out particularly well. How thick are the planks in that area?
  4. For plate frame bogies, there's little chance of anything being of correct width when using 26mm pinpoints. These bogies are 70" over their side plates.
  5. RMweb silly quiz: what's the mpg of the GWR Steamrailmotor? (No, I don't have a clue either.)

If it were 0.2mpg, it could get to Paddington and back on a tankful

      The Stationmaster

Ah but it would have yo faster enroute to Paddington so consumption would rise.

But hopefully not too much if you take advantage of momentum :-)

  6. Taz - did you find the turnunder on the sides a bit too much as supplied?
  7. Gotta think outside the box but inside the box as well...

Hope you don't have to wait for a demon to take you back in time to get out...

  8. Lovely pic of Rowden Mill. Never seen that one before. I can see what you mean about the amount of stonework. Hmmm.
  9. Ah, thanks, Dave, the penny has dropped! I had assumed, from your pics, that you were adopting an 'all brick approach' (apart from lintels of course). I don't know much about Clarke's stations, but it would seem your style is a kind of Barbers Bridge (that was the best online example I could find of that style), where it would seem that flush stone and brickwork was a characteristic feature. Actually, cutting out brick sections and insetting plasticard stones is not difficult when commencing construction, but I can see it would be difficult at the stage you've got to now. I think Milliput will be a messy solution (it will sand down at a different rate to the plasticard), but I'm not convinced that bevelling the stone edges is going to look right, because where do you stop the bevelling? Stonework of that style is always flush fitting with the other stone courses. Having said that, I suppose sanded-down 10 thou will look ok in 7mm.
  10. I agree that 5 thou does require a lot of care, but I would not have thought that thickness was needed in any 7mm buildings work. What I'm confused about is the reference to Milliput and bevelling window surrounds.
  11. Grrr - blog notifications are still rubbish

I think they always have been? I tried to follow blogs in the past but it seems that you had to catch and follow every entry, and page two of the blogs doesn't function properly on the 'Content I Follow' page.

It would help if there was a page 2!

  12. There's no doubt a small-space Minories is very suited to ancient 4- and 6-wheeler blocktrains, e.g. a GER 'Jazz' service scenario.
  13. And there's the key to Minories. I'm always surprised at the amount of discussion over the visible part, but it's what's hidden that will determine success for an intensive operation. The minimum operational requirement would be for trains to arrive and depart simultaneously. Traversers/turntables won't satisfy this unless an empty incoming road is guaranteed to be adjacent to an outgoing road. Cassette ergonomics get complicated. Maybe the old-fashioned (but lengthy) scissors with double slips might be the best compromise.
  14. XT60 motor! (Rather good, actually, and certainly way ahead of contemporary designs.)
  15. Looks like the Parkside, as supplied, is ok for the non-vac O11, but an O15 will require mods. (Similarly the new Parkside Mink, as supplied, is ok for V16 and those V12s not fitted, but not ok for V14 (and V13/S2).
  16. Ah yes, good spot. I would say yes that is offset. That is certainly the question, and I think we can add O11 to that list.
  17. I don't know of any V12 pics fitted with sliding vents, so I think it's impossible to tell when they started to be changed to bonnets. If you're building 4 of them though, it might be an idea to hedge your bets and have 2 of each arrangement! P.S. Rich - was it not the V14 that had the offset vee? (See below.)
  18. Actually, I'm liking the direction of the thread as well (my comment above was in the spirit of humorous commendation rather than criticism), and I think that both 'minor' and 'major' discussions can co-exist beneficially. P.S. Newford was a terrific layout - but saw it only once (at Watford Finescale).
  19. The thread seems to have changed from Minories to Majories.
  20. Oh the perils of making a complete rubbish posting!

I usually just wait for the Binmen to take my rubbish away. I have never thought of posting it to them.

  21. I saw the purpose of this thread as being a useful and timely attempt to formulate some rules regarding RMweb imagery, and I think a lot of good progress has been made. Taking up Kenton's point though, a criticism I have of RMweb is that finding such rules involves wading through long threads like this, with its inevitable diversions into arcane territory. I hope this thread will not be locked until the concise version of the new rules, or at least a draft of them, has become available.
  22. I think there should be a post button for "I haven't got a clue what you are talking about"...

  23. Martin has beaten me to the same question, but we also need to clarify any hotlinking etiquette in connection with the RMweb archive forum.
  24. Profile pic has disappeared from profile page...

Hmm, something seems to have disappeared whilst images were being moved between two servers yesterday. Will investigate.

  25. Where the uploader has allowed the sharing option, it seems logical that permission is implicit.
