  1. After an hour and a half and a lot of cursing the under board alterations have been completed. It appears that the original board now matches the height of the extension board. The Standard 4 has just tested the reconnected track with a brake van run.
  2. That response was done "in the best possible taste"
  3. Yes I guessed that the Starlings had headed off for warmer climes.
  4. What a fantastic garden railway. I enjoyed the video. You certainly have a good variety of stock. I love the live steam locomotive. The ground level construction looks similar to how I have started to build my own garden railway. Judging by some of the wheel slip you have some gradients on the line.

  6. The birds are very quiet around here still. The builders have moved to the other end of the new estate, and things have become quieter. A month or so ago we had regular visits from flicks of starlings and a couple of wagtails, but even these have departed. The bird feeders sit dormant. I thought that with all the machines having moved away the bushes and food would attract some of our feathered friends.
  7. Morning all. Bright and sunny here in Derbyshire. Jamie I hope you enjoy the breakfast and the visit to Crich. It should be nice and quiet as its opening season ended last weekend so you should have the place to yourselves. It is our men's breakfast at church too this morning. Sadly there are too many things on the "to do" list for today so I will have to give it a miss. Once I have taken Sarah to her mum's so she can go to the Nottingham Florest match, I will be on daughter duty. I am hoping Amber can amuse herself for part of the day because I have some baseboard repairs to undertake before next week's exhibition. I also have some bits of scenery to add. I had hoped to get over to the Silk Mill museum for the final running day of the model railway, however the start of the event clashes with Rams match on television so I may have to give it a miss. Modelling whilst watching the match will probably be the afternoon sorted. Of course the general household jobs may get in the way. Time will tell. Hope you enjoy your Saturday.
  8. How can you forget..."just don't mention the war!"
  9. The first coat of scenic water dried quite thin in parts so a second coat has been added this evening.
  10. Looking forward to seeing this layout again at Weston on Trent on Saturday 12th November.
  11. The only Metcalfe kits planned for the build are the retaining walls that will be used to separate the station area from the raised sea front road that will run behind. This evening, when I should have been preparing Skaleby West for an exhibition, I became distracted by experimenting with the track layout for Skaleby Quay. Here is the latest idea. In the centre is the line that will run into the station platform complete with run round loop. This could be accessed by a three way point on the extreme right of the layout as shown in the photograph. To the front a point will run off the run round loop and access one long siding, which could become two. This will be the quayside and will be used by fish traffic. To the rear the right fork of the three way point will serve a bay platform with a siding running off to a goods shed.

  13. Evening all. Generic greetings and wishes to you all. I have missed a few days again so I am once again playing catch up. Apologies for any major birthdays, anniversaries or other events I may have missed. This week has been another busy one with not enough sleep, or enough time to do everything. The school's model railway show is just a week away. I have left quite a bit of work until the last minute. Thankfully the show guide is now almost done after a couple of late nights in front of the computer. My layout has a number of repair jobs still to do. Hopefully this weekend will provide the time to do them...but I won't hold my breath. There are four bottles of real ale awaiting consumption if my daughter ever goes to sleep!!
  14. Strawberry spillage everywhere
  15. The new buildings look like they fit the space well.
  16. Will pick some DAS up over the weekend.
  17. Thanks Andy. I will give it a try.
  18. The first baseboard is now built and is sat on the floor of the spare room. I have started to play around with the track plan. The plan is to have a station, sidings for fish traffic and a further siding for general freight. I think that there may need to be a three way point at the bottom of the baseboard. The left and central sections of the point could lead into the station and run round loop with the right hand section leading to bay platform and general freight area. From the loop there will be at least one siding for the fish traffic. This is an alternative to the track plan displayed earlier.
  19. With just over a week to go until the Weston on Trent show I have found some time to tackle some more scenic tasks. Firstly some Woodland Scenics "Scenic Water" has been added to the river bed. This has been left to dry before the final scenic additions are made to the water area. Last year, the area around the new tunnel was presented in half finished form. The brown undercoat was visible in large areas. Tonight I have treated some of it to some great acrylic paint in the hope it will represent a rocky outcrop. I am not sure it really works so I may have to turn to the Woodland Scenics Rock kit.
  20. Looking forward to seeing Ashbourne Midland at the Weston on Trent show on Saturday 12th November.
  21. As the organiser of the Weston show I would like to thank you for offering to bring the layout over and support our school event. We are looking forward to seeing you on the day.
  22. Funny you should say that I answered an advert for one of these and all I got was a new mobile phone!
  23. First you should hit the comedy section.
