  1. The word beginning with Cs.... is pronounced with a very soft 'Ch' sound, rather than the simple sibilant-S of sikló............I could see the funny side of things, once the Hungarians had enjoyed giving me a good ribbing!
  2. Not quite, but you`re on the right track, Pete.
  3. As a visitor to Budapest, one must be very careful when pronouncing the {seemingly} similar Hungarian words sikló and csikló............the first, refers to the funicular railway ascending the beautiful castle hill; the latter refers to something VERY different, altogether! I`d asked for directions........`how they laughed!
  4. Busy week ahead; preparing for a new arrival! ............my new baby is due to arrive on Friday and I`ve been warned to expect the little-one to be a bonnie 260 Kg.! ........Gentlefolk; have your celebratory cigars at the ready!
  5. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ue7vyT-EaSc
  6. If the shell is empty, I expect it`s fallen victim to a molluscan-downturn, been evicted and "hit the `pike" in a new life as a slug.
  7. Have a wonderful day creating joyous memories to treasure, Richard.
  8. "Yorkshire; where folk say what they like and like what they say"..........aye, `appen!
  9. Morning all! Primer and top-coat to be applied today on the large, metal fabricated machine stand I mentioned making last W/E.........`hoping that I may be excused those duties and my dear-Father can be tasked with same, as exposure to white-spirit and high-VOC paint has been a trigger for intense migraines, previously. Pictures of the 'item' to follow.......
  10. Jeyes fluid must be like Marmite; `folks either love it or hate it ...........................I quite like its scent (like the carbolic soap we had at Prep. School) and evidently it`s also very good for treating Dropsy!
  11. Almost certainly you do....the grapheme-colour synesthesia (the colour/word/number association) is quite common. I too grew up with the party trick of being able to reverse words, so that too may be related to some aspect of synesthesia. Synesthesia in general, is possibly more common that one might imagine, I recall discussing several years ago, mentioning over dinner (with strangers) the indigo-hue I see pervading my vision when feeling sad, and one fellow diner piped-up with; "doesn`t everybody feel in colours, then?" It`s a fascinating subject and synesthesia raises some profound sensory questions about how and what we really perceive about our world.
  12. As some here already may know, I have synesthesia (some of my senses are 'crossed')........I`ve noticed something odd (well actually, very nice) when I think of Ian (Oldudders) and Sherry (Ashcombe) being together: I hear Rachmaninoff`s Piano Concerto No.2 (Op.18) and smell garlic.......the sense of both-joined, seems so beautifully romantic!
  13. Not one of mine, Trev.........just a stock-photo with which to tease DD........'Eclectricity' wise!
  14. Well, Newton watched, whilst a mechanic took advantage; as it was a case of love her or lever.
  15. Well, just look at these; what a crackin` pair of phases............... Phwarrrrr!
  16. "There is no remedy for love but to love more" {Henry David Thoreau}
  17. Migraine! ..........My reward for a busy weekend spent MIG-welding and fabricating a sturdy stand for the newly arrived machine.....It appears that today will be a right-off in consequence. Wishing E.R`s a nice day .................See you all tomorrow..
  18. Patricia`s pinched our buoy! Pics.: http://www.irishseashipping.com/photofeatures/lighthouses/lightservices/patricia240714/patricia240714.htm .........as predicted Last seen heading off together for a new life in Swansea; now, there`s lovely for you! .
  19. It was going 'begging' and I`m a sucker for anything canine (and free)!
  20. Challenge of the day: How to get a 3 cwt. metal-cutting bandsaw, down safely out of the pup-mobile, through the house and into the workshop, without the help of lifting gear or another 'Amazon' like myself. ........for those whom think that Imperial measures are needlessly confusing: 3 hundredweight is about equal to 3.66 Firkin of ale or beer (but not cider or wine).
  21. I`m so sorry, John.........they`re going to be feeling gutted.
  22. So, there`s even an airline perk for fag-roasting rotters like Harry Flashman!
