  1. Even less time to go from now Mike...! Show opens at 10.30am folks - see you all there!
  2. Thanks Mike - useful bump to the thread as the show is the day after tomorrow!!! Looking forward to seeing you all there!
  3. Thanks Phil, I'll have a natter with you about it on Saturday at the show! Cheers, Neil
  4. Thanks Marc, that's great. I'll send you an email tomorrow about them.
  5. Thanks Marc, good to know for future reference. Any chance you would consider selling the brake gear parts separately please?
  6. Hi Marc, It's a different version from the one you offer as a kit - on this one the door doesn't extend the full height of the sides, plus it only has a single brake shoe on each side (or only on one side). Cheers, Neil
  7. Good to see progress on the MVR Andy! Won't be too long now till the first train :-)
  8. No progress recently due to decorating and everything surplus being in the train room out the way, however did manage to get a bit of modelling done yesterday on a tray in the lounge - A Furness Railway 10T high sided open - http://www.cumbrianrailways.org.uk/drawings/FR%204-plank%2010-ton%20wagon%20-%20drwg.pdf Main bodywork is complete, just the detailing to do now. Anybody know of a source of single shoe brakegear please? (Preferably not etched brass!)
  9. Just to bump this back up to the top - Burton is only 3 weeks away, in fact slightly less that as by this point the AGM & Exhibition will nearly be over! If you're coming along do say hello - no doubt I shall be found lurking behind Port Wynnstay/EDM with the rest of the Trent Valley mob :-)
  10. I hope that Edwardian won't mind the intrusion here - on my work away day yesterday, I stumbled across what appeared to be trackbed of the West Norfolk's route to Birchoverham Staithe, where it ran through the pine forests so common on the North Norfolk coast... Actually in reality no-where near Norfolk, but at Sherwood Pines near Mansfield. On the way back to the car we crossed what I assumed to be a road for the forestry commission vehicles, but in my mind felt like a long lost part of the West Norfolk... Having spent many years as a child wandering round the woods near Holkham beach and the associated disused track bed there it just felt very 'Norfolk' to me!
  11. I wouldn't mind a couple please Marc - I rather like dumb buffered wagons and the more the merrier for use on Elsbridge! The wagons look great Argos.
  12. Having finally remembered my username and password for the Guild forum, I can safely say that wow! They are seriously impressive and very nice looking. Now I just need to find an Ixion chassis and suitable plans for a Tramway 04... Many thanks for sharing Simon - greatly appreciated!

  15. Sorry Dave I missed your post. It's from Phil at Port Wynnstay - the last one out of his rejects pile sadly. Yes you did Martin - many thanks for suggesting them! There is a second one on the workbench as well at the moment that's being modified to create a brake coach variant. I've moved the blanked off section of one side to the other end so that it matches the other side - this will then become part of the guards compartment. Will try and remember and take some photos later.
  16. Once again a lack of progress - but not any more! You may not recognise the A1 Terrier anymore as she's undergone a transformation... Here she is performing shunting duties on Dava's Coxheath Sidings at the Trent Valley open day back at the end of January - thanks Dava for letting me have a go - lovely layout! Slightly better photo here with one of the recent projects on the Workbench - some months ago (in fact probably getting on for nearly two years now...) I purchased a set of San Juan coach parts from EDM Models - here it is now running on a lovely set of LNER/WD diamond frame bogies from Gramodels - these are great and really easy to put together: This is one of the trains that will feature on the layout - a mixed train with Terrier, one of the WCPR-inspired coaches and a couple of wagons. The next project is a set of Skytrex castings for a GER Y6 - or Toby as he is more commonly known! For £55 at Kettering a bargain I couldn't refuse - really nice resin castings for the bodywork and side skirts, and some great white metal castings for the cowcatchers and chimney etc. Seen here with Henrietta, Elsie and the NWR Milk Van - what else of course?! Lastly, but by no means least is the current encumbent of the Workbench - Rother Valley Railway coach Just lamp brackets and foot boards to go, plus a coat of paint so that it then matches the other coach it will be paired with... A pair of sides intended for an Irish 3' gauge Saloon - new ends and chassis, and a pair of Ian Kirk Fox bogies, et voila! A nice little saloon coach perfect for a light Railway! And here the two newest coaches are, together with the newest loco (oops - thanks to Mike Bellamy for an offer I couldn't refuse!) More progress soon hopefully now that I seem to have found my modelling mojo again!
  17. Dave, just simply stunning! The backscene really sets off the layout nicely, and I am struggling to see where the layout ends and the backscene begins - superb job.
  18. Thanks Steve - I can't take credit for the drawing - it's an Andrew Young original - although we'd both had a similar idea! Body is from the Hunslet 4-4-0T that was proposed for the Lynton & Barnstaple, and rendered so beautifully in 7mm scale by David Taylor for Charmouth and Bridport Town. Bottom half is pure Adams Radial... The drawings for the L&B Hunslet are in Model Railway Comstructor, September 1985.
  19. "Perchance it is not dead, but sleepeth..." Appropriate words perhaps at the moment to describe the state of play with Elsbridge Wharf, somewhere in limbo whilst I work out what I'm doing with: I) trackplan II) motive power (i.e the coffee pots) III) Burneside Current thinking on the trackplan is to look for a more operationally interesting trackplan - my inspiration for this layout has come from Giles Barnabes 'Stratford (Waterside)' (Scale Model Trains July 1993), and his plans in the Gauge O Guilds 'Small Layouts Handbook Volume 1'. Initially I was planning to utilise his plan for the version of Stratford (Waterside) as it would have been just after the locomotives had taken over from the horses. This would have led to a layout that was awkward to operate, with no run round loop, meaning that shunting would have needed either a second loco, or an attempt to replicate chain/rope shunting in 7mm...! So, the current thinking is a plan based on his actual model of Stratford (Waterside), but swapping the timber yard for St Pedrocs Dairy, and still looking to incorporate a train shed over the headshunt at the platform. This would also then mean that I could operate the layout as a generic layout terminus, meaning that I can run my collection of light railway stock that may not otherwise have had a chance to operate on Elsbridge (Wharf) otherwise, such as my pair of WCPR inspired bogie coaches (San Juan kits that are in the process of being standard gauged), and an excuse to buy another Terrier (or two!). Motive power then would include more variety: Coffee Pots Terrier - A1 and A1X variants Hudswell Clarke - standard Ixion product, plus a future project to build a MSLR HC on an Ixion chassis (http://www.lner.info/locos/J/j64.php) Manning Wardle F class (0-4-0ST) Neilson Box Tank 0-4-0 Etc. Burneside - still progressing but with a potentially different trackplan. Having bought Iain Rice's new book on 'Creating Cameo Layouts' its given me some ideas to think about in terms of presentation, layout size and trackplan. Having not done anything recently of terms of modelling for myself, I made an effort this afternoon to do some: First coat of paint on the tram car for Elsbridge Wharf And the same on the birdcage brake There's also a small 3-compartment coach taking shape (Peco coach parts as usual) that will run with the above two to form a nice, compact little train for the Tramway. There's a set of van axleguards and some split spoke wheels upstairs waiting to go under this, hopefully later if not tomorrow night. It will then end up in the same maroon/red colour as the other two.
  20. So would I Marc! Though I reckon it's a homemade job...
  21. It's amazing what you find when trawling through Facebook groups...a photo of when Rachel ran off the end of the slurry siding in 1954... Some interesting details here of what I am assuming to be the wagons for tipping the slurry, and one of the internal user wagons too judging by the dumb buffers.
  22. Same here! The more Terriers the better in my opinion...I have one so far to run on Elsbridge (Wharf) - assuming that it was purchased by Wellsworth & Suddery when they extended to Crosby. I feel that a second example may need to be purchased which can run on my generic light railway...
  23. I can also strongly recommend the Oakwood Press book "Boultons Sidings including Contractors Locomotives" by Mike Sharman - drawings for all the locos featured in 'The Chronicles', they are to 7mm but this shouldn't be too much of a problem.
