  1. I must admit I am disappointed about the J72, especially as the Bachmann Farish one killed off the Dapol effort, not that announcements at Dapol are ever a guarantee of anything actually being made anyway. I am not living in hope that the sidelining of the J72 means that something else that is currently a secret is in development for N, something they think will sell much better and be easier to produce. I put my hopes and logical predictions on it being a V2, surely a new version of this to replace the previous model is long overdue and fits in with R&D currently being done for a new 00 version. Perhaps if any retailers with some serious money in their back pockets are reading this, why not try and get the J72 back on but as your own exclusive model? if I had the money I know i'd try and back a reboot, especially as there are so few small engines in N, and so few the same quality as the Farish 64xx or Jinty, which surely the J72 would live up to.
  2. I would have thought that regardless of whether we are waiting for many models or not, an N gauge Poll would be useful to help shape the future of our hobby, likewise an O gauge might be helpful to the O gauge community. I know that 00 is the most popular scale but I do feel, politics aside, that singling out the poll to just 00 is perhaps a little like saying 'this is the only scale that matters to us on RMWeb'. I know that it isn't the case, but it feels that way. Even the simple poll question of 'which Bachmann product would you like to see added to the Farish range' could have created a valid poll question with useful data, but maybe it's up to Bachmann to be asking that, not RMWeb. In fact if Bachmann was to ask that, I believe it would interesting if they kept the data to themselves and only revealed it when the winning model(s) reached the painted pre-production sample stage! Anyway, RMWeb, please include us N gauge people in the poll next time, surely the 00 folk have more than enough toys to play with now that they don't need any new products or even a poll?
  3. Which colour did you go for in the end? looking to paint a couple of GNR models in GNR grey, but I am unsure which brand of paint/shade to use.
  4. Ex Cambrian Railway goods engine no 855 rounds a bend approaching Winfrith Newburgh at the West Lulworth railway.
  5. In some ways it feels disappointing, especially on the steam front for Farish. But actually it is very positive, it is hardly a secret they want to keep things secret until they are closer to the point of sale and that they are already working things for 3 maybe even 4 years in the future. I hope they use this time to catch up and get ahead of the game. Also, a new retooled 00 V2, could that mean a new one in N in the next 3/4 years? fingers crossed on that! Though I feel scaling down that R.O.D. could be too much to hope for!
  6. I adore the 00 J94, thought i have never been a fan of buckets, and I am no longer a fan of 00, when i went to a friends house i was ignoring all his Bachmann and Hornby locos in favour of his DJM Bucket, I just hope it will be scaled down to N, as I can justify one on my layout.
  7. I suppose you prefer Caledonian to North British?
  8. I notice the DVD is now a big part of BRM, however I feel a trick is being missed. Don't get me wrong, I find the DVDs interesting but a rival magazine who brings out a DVD once a year includes a feature that BRM does not, which it could be really useful if it was included. I am talking of course about product reviews. It would be really great to see products from the review pages of a magazine actually running but at the time when the product is actually new rather than at the end of the year when the product may have already sold out. Has anyone else got any thoughts on this?
  9. Actually this all makes a lot of sense, this is one thing I struggle with on the DVDs perhaps more than the articles. They never seem to have track plans and so context can be quite tricky to find.
  10. It has surely got to the top of the 00 retool pile by now? when was the last one done? 1990? and pre war SR top link power is a huge gap in the N gauge market *braces ready for mention of the Schools!*. Also perhaps some new Pullmans to go with a Nelson would be the icing on the cake!
  11. I think a Lord Nelson in N and retooled 00 version would make more sense than a west country. Besides Dapol are meant (even though they seem to have mothballed it) to be working on one? Maybe you could do what a few impatient people seem to have done; I have seen a lot of people just renumber/name farish merchant navies as west countries! a particular layout at Warley had a 'Blackmore Vale' and a 'City of Wells' going round.
  12. Well only 14 months later I have a model with 'GREAT WESTERN' by way of lettering in N... thanks for the information gentlemen.
  13. Seems to be some bargains from Sawyer Models each day at the moment, just noticed a Hornby controller with £50 off, probably of interest to someone on here. Judging by previous years I am assuming they have a different offer each day during advent. http://sawyermodels.co.uk/?product_cat=advent-calendar
  14. £108 and free post from Sawyer Models on the variants I have linked, anyone else beating Hattons on these? http://sawyermodels.co.uk/?product=djmoo71-004-dj-models-br-blue-class-71-full-yellow-front-71013-limited-edition http://sawyermodels.co.uk/?product=djmoo71-005-dj-models-br-green-class-71-full-yellow-front-e5010limited-edition
  15. In what way exactly is it 'horrendous'? From my own experience it has made quite a few N gauge locomotives actually useful and able to run with scale length trains and has proved far more reliable than traction tyres, however I will concede that it can be tricky to apply initially before you get used to it.
  16. Quite possibly, but I have a feeling I know already if it will need it.
  17. YES!!!!!!! So glad common sense has won through here!! To say I am happy about this is an understatement. I have only just found out today, you wouldn't believe how? I looked up the Farish castle thread because I I know they are due out soon and wanted to find out more and someone on there mentioned the DJM King. I have gone and ordered one, now to go fourth and spread the word!
  18. I hate to state the obvious, but why hasn't anyone tried bullfrog snot to improve haulage on gradients? or does no one on this side of the Atlantic know what bullfrog snot is? I know I'll be using it on mine when it finally arrives!
  19. I have seen this announcement from Sawyer Models: 'Today we have secured a lease on a new shop in a new location. The new shop is far bigger than the current one so we'll be able to stock products we've been wanting to for ages but due to space we've been unable to. We are moving to Leigh, Greater Manchester and will be situated on the main shopping street Bradshawgate. The current shop will close around easter with the new shop opening in May date tbc. The website and eBay will remain open during our move and setting up of our new shop. There is plenty of free parking around the new shop plus the guided busway stops just around the corner. There is also a bus to Leigh from Warrington, St Helens and Earlestown for those who don't drive. We always knew we'd need a bigger shop but didn't think it would happen within the first three years of being open. It is an exciting time for us and now to begin packing everything up.' Has anyone seen anything else about this? Any idea when they are opening up etc?
  20. Several years ago Lionheart Trains produced 6410 in green with 'GREAT WESTERN' on the tanks but I see Bachmann and Farish have not issued any in this livery in 00 or N. Having dug around in books, locomotives illustrated and on the net, I can't find any photos whatsoever of the real thing carrying this livery. I know they were built in 1932, very close to the point where Shirtbuttons were applied instead of 'GREAT WESTERN'. I'm sure Lionheart didn't make a mistake back in 2009 and worked from a photo of the real thing but I can't find a definite answer or evidence that they did. If anyone can say for sure firstly if they carried 'GREAT WESTERN' on the tanks and if so where I can find a photo of one like it, it would be very much appreciated.
  21. To be honest I won't be ordering one either, the wheels are not actually the correct scale width apart! These engines seem to run on a scale track of around 4foot1.5inches but the real gauge is 4foot 8.5 inches, that is a whole 7 inches short! it's disgraceful how such a fundamental error can occur. It makes the whole thing look totally wrong and DJ models should be totally ashamed to have made a huge mistake like this... (For those who don't know me, above is sarcasm, I think this is a wonderful piece of kit and looks the part, I wish every success to it's sales and those who buy it. The way the plates are done will make it easier than ever to easily renumber an example to have a unique loco. I shall not be buying because it's the wrong scale for me, but as soon as the N gauge stuff appears, provided it's this quality or better, I will be buying.)
  22. Dave, they're on the list, as far as I have been told, they only have order forms for the Buckets at present. not for anything else. The shop is Sawyer Models.
  23. Thank you for pointing out the grammatical error, I have rectified it! Right from what I have been told they only have order forms for the buckets at present, but not for anything else, certainly some things are far too far off production to be ordered, so this is the thing, the 'register interest' part of the website I guess it to help prioritize the models tooling, more popular the faster it will be done right? So how can I both show interest to help make it clear what I really want to buy and order through my model shop?
  24. Okay Dave, important question, looking on your website there is a page to 'pre order and register interest' I want to pre order and register interest but my 'local' model shop, (or at least the one that I order everything through and support) has told me he will be able to stock your models, so how can I register my interest and support your business by pre ordering through my 'local' model shop?
