  1. Rather than have a derailment, I think I'd rather have a short circuit - easily corrected just by switching the points and pressing reset on the controller!
  2. Presumably a frog juicer doesn't actually change the direction of the point? So you'll still get a derailment if you forget to do that.
  3. A minor point, and it may have already been mentioned - the word 'Location' and the member's actual location are joined together in the members' details that appear to the left of each post. I'd have thought there should be a space in between, or maybe a colon and a space.
  4. Naples Street had its second outing at the weekend, at Milton Keynes. The brazier glowed, the factory chimney smoked, and the locos and stock ran impeccably (well, almost - the SOO switcher played up as soon as I got there but I managed to get it going). There was lots of curiosity about American TT - it's just a pity I had to tell people how little there is available.
  5. I haven't read anything about it at all apart from what's on the NIRT website. I was wondering more whether anyone else had modelled it. I should think doing something reasonably accurate, assuming there was enough prototype information, would take a lot of time and skill. I have the time but not the skill or (probably) the patience! Still, you never know.
  6. I don't think the track was circular when the quarries and ironworks were active. Going by the old map on the web page below, it ran fron the quarries in a roughly north-westerly direction to the works. https://nir.org.uk/history
  7. I have recently moved to Northampton and last week paid a visit to the site of the old ironstone railway at Hunsbury Hill, just a mile or so away from where I live. I've seen a few references to it on RMweb. The Trust keep a small museum going there and their website has a photo of the old track plan. I thought it would make a good modelling subject - has anyone tackled it?
  8. Well, this thread has well and truly gone off topic now, and since from what Golden Fleece was saying we are unlikely to get any more updates about current TT3 projects, it's time for me to stop following it.
  9. Two new road vehicles on Naples Street, a Ford CL-9000 cab and a 1970 Chevrolet Malibu, both from RailTT in the Ukraine:
  10. I agree with everyone's comments - stunning work!
  11. Spaghetti is good for making steel pipes. Uncooked, that is.
  12. Excellent! I'll look forward to meeting you and seeing your layout for real.
  13. A few more shots of Naples Street, some showing the new Zeuke hopper and a Lok-n-Roll 50ft boxcar with rather dodgy home-made 'patching' decals. Must redo those some day. Having said which they don't look quite that bad actual size. You can tell the automobile is basic quality Shapeways but again, not too bad actual size. The last shot shows the garage with the layout to the right covered with the green cloth. Hopefully soon half of it will become a nice hobby room/study. I may even start planning a bigger layout. I'll be torn between HO and TT
  14. Naples Street will also be appearing at the Olney show on 7 September next. Having had chance to set it up again and test it since the house more, I was amazed that everything worked straight off. Not that there's much to go wrong with a layout this small, but still. Meanwhile, quotes for converting part of the cold garage to a nice warm hobby room are in progress...
  15. That's what I did (with HOm points), except that I cut the closure rails a bit nearer to the frog. I left the wires underneath alone.
  16. Wonder where they got that idea from
  17. I've had an invite to take Naples Street to the Milton Keynes MRS 50th anniversary show on 16-17 Feb. I'm itching to get it set up and tested, which I haven't had chance to do since our house move. It will probably need to be stored over the winter in a cold (but dry) garage. Hopefully early next year we'll be doing a conversion and I'll have a nice dedicated bit of interior layout space.
  18. Having recently moved from York to Northampton, I'm scouting round to find some exhibition venues round here (40-mile radius or so) that aren't booked up during 2019 so I can take Naples Street along. If there are any exhibition managers out there who might be interested, send me a PM!
  19. Is that because you put them over your identicles?
  20. Meanwhile, a nice pithy reply from a contributor to a US forum: "If it is just for short time, no. If it was going to be for a day or two the railroad would contact the customer for permission. In either case, there is seldom any charge." Good idea though to have a spare spur or two. On Naples Street the run-round (either side of the telegraph pole) effectively doubles as such, it's just that when switching the team track I like to temporarily park a car or two at Napoli Distribution just behind it. So far permission has never been refused.
  21. Sometimes while switching a model railroad it's convenient to spot one or more cars temporarily, however briefly, on a spur or siding that doesn't belong to the same industry as the final destination. In prototype practice, would the industry in question charge for giving permission to do this? If so, how would they charge - by the day, hour or even minute? Or would it depend on the railroad, or whether there was say a mutual agreement by two or more industries to spot on one another's tracks?
  22. Not even all operators are bothered about timetables and sequences. The friend I exhibit with is more interested in grouping boxcars into colours for the kids (yellow for bananas, brown for chocolate etc.) and seeing how many he can squeeze into a given siding. So at our first show my carefully prepared operating sequence very quickly went out of the window!
  23. It's dry. 99%. The other 1% may be just clammy hands.
