4 tracks but most of them rusty and 2 were just sidings. 143 action for the ‘service’!

It’s perhaps new thread material as to if we need clubs in the traditional format and if they’re the best vehicle to use to organise the exhibitions of the future, or what ‘we’ want as our National show format, if indeed we need one. 

Until I read though this thread I’d never heard of this chap Francis and had to look him up.

If he’s genuinely doing something positive for the hobby and not perpetuating the old stereotype, then fair dos. 

Any means of attracting people into the hobby is fine by me.

From my memory, basketball boots came from Woolworths, unboxed. Standard ‘leisure’ footwear for me from 1960s onwards for years. Still have a pair.

Trainers, in a similar role, didn’t appear until into the 1970s.

I gave my new Heljan 10800 a run on the layout this afternoon with a few items of similar period stock. It gave me the idea that I could run the layout in a third period, mid 1950s, with other suitable wagons, plus a couple of Green 20s. Would need to temporarily disguise the portacabins but it could work. Will mull this one over…

The only auto I’ve ever driven was a hired fishface Ford Granada about 30 years ago. It was ridiculously fast (the engine said Cosworth on it) and did what needed to be done.

The main problem was nearly going through the windscreen when I thought I could use my left foot for braking…
