Hi Richard, Very nice, much better sound. Although I have opted out of the Earthmover and just standardised my fleet on the Zimo Dumbo range. They are a great compromise and keeps me out of trouble with the wife. At least the full chip allows you to reblow from another provider. regards Doug

Thank goodness for that, never wanted a select chip in my models. Would be great if they went to the V5. Doug

West Highland Line V4, a 1980's West Highland Line layout
Dougjuk replied to young37215's topic in Modelling real locations
Hi Rob, Just spent two days reading through your thread, really enjoyed it. The layout is looking great and I reckon Ian and I need to visit sometime, however a visit to Ians fantastic layout needs to be done too. There are a few things you could share with him around the servo's etc and controls. I will try to set something up. You have given me the push to write something about Marshend and my home layout too. regards Doug PS: We also have a GWSR gala coming up. -
I installed the small dumbo speaker below the fan, needed a little trim but it went in and sounds good to me. Doug

Hi Ken, Many thanks for that, I have found that Bachmann sell the boards but have been quoted £22 inc postage, not sure if thats for the pair or just one. But I have been looking around a couple of spare PCB's from dead locos and found some resistors marked 152 and a few capacitors that look the same size but as you said no markings. I am going to have a go at removing and see if I can install. At leat I have something I can copy and I have spare LED's in case. Once again thanks for the help. Doug

Hi guys, Need some help from someone who knows electronic stuff. I bought a class 47 chassis to go with the spare 47346 body I had obtained. However this chassis does not have the headlight LED's fitted so I bought the LED's but they will not work because there are a couple of missing parts. Take a look at the photo I am missing the connections at C6 and R6, I have added the second photo of the panel in 47359 with those parts. Can someone ID the bits and where I can get them. regards and thanks Doug

going to give that a try many thanks Doug

Hi Richard, Very interesting I wonder if you can give more information on this subject. I have fitted the Digitrains 860009 stayalive to my 2 class 08's which are both fitted with Loksound 4 micro and also to my Prairie tank which has a zimo 648. I just connected directly without anything between. They seem to work fine however the class 08's do not like being programmed with the stay alive connected. Jeremy at Digitrains tells me that this stay alive has all the charging circuits but in, so as I have said I connected directly. What do you think, should I get the resistor/diode pair and install, also where do I get them and how do I put them together. regards Doug

I have legomanbiffo version and it sound good to me. Its personal taste really, mind you out of 36 sound loco's only 32 of mine are from Bif. :-)

I actually do, this particular motor looks like it may have come to the end of its life, it was a secondhand model and I obviously do not know its running history. The motor turns but the bearings are shot. There is a danger in over oiling, so depending on use, regular checking is in order.

Hi all, My light and sound fitted 20217 is a dead duck after the motor seized solid, considering the work and money gone into making it a sound equipped and light fitted I am after a replacement motor. Been searching the net and eBay nothing seen as yet. Doug

New DCC Concepts Position Light Signals
Dougjuk replied to St. Simon's topic in Permanent Way, Signalling & Infrastructure
Well I have used them on my layout and they do not look wrong at all. I have cut the base into the cork and everything seems fine. I still do not think they are big enough for O gauge. Rule 1 applies. -
New DCC Concepts Position Light Signals
Dougjuk replied to St. Simon's topic in Permanent Way, Signalling & Infrastructure
The pack I bought has a panel which allocates 12 DCC addresses, so you can control them via your controller using each address. You can also link them to a panel (DCC) link the mimic or similar. I am going to control them with my JMRI panel that I have put together. I control points, routes and signals on there. If I can work out how to upload a picture will send some. I do agree they are a slight yellow look but I am happy with them. Doug -
New DCC Concepts Position Light Signals
Dougjuk replied to St. Simon's topic in Permanent Way, Signalling & Infrastructure
I bought some and have to say they are quite nice, the price is fantastic and they seem to be simple to install. Considering the other signals on the market at £30 each in DCC format getting 12 DCC ground signals and a control board for £69 is a winner in my book. Not sure I would agree that they are 7mm scale even if they are allegedly bit over scale, you can remove the block under neath and seat them lower down as was done in earlier pictures. Its down to personal choice again. regards Doug -
Legomanbiffo / DC Kits on-line re-blow service.
Dougjuk replied to dasatcopthorne's topic in DCC Sound
I have used this service a while now, Bif is very good and fast if you don't catch him at a show. Will send out the original if you muck it up also. Doug -
Hi Charlie, No rush, will be 3-4 weeks to raise funds but yes its an 8 pin. Will not need a speaker as I have them already. regards Doug
-
Hi Charlie, I have done all my business with Bif, I was looking on your website I cannot see the Praire sound, SWD calls it group 2. I need to get a couple of chips in next few weeks or so. A Class 121 and the Praire. regards Doug
-
Hi Charlie, Was going to write to Bif but have not got around to it. Is that the SWD version or another ? regards Doug
-
Hi all, I am after a good Praire tank sound file to fit to a Bachman prairie tank number 5541 (preserved on DFR). I can see SWD do a generic file and Zimo do a nice purpose recorded version. However I would prefer it on an ESU chip as I have a Loksound programmer. Has anyone had any experience of either these project or know of another. TIA Doug

very strange, I have now got over 31 loco's using Zimo dumbo speakers. All 5 of my class 37's have the large double dumbo fitted in the fuel tanks. Its only my view but they are excellent speakers and a good alternative to going down the road of major installations using the Earthmover. My 47's, 24's have the smaller double dumbo in the roof. I have never had any echo sound even with the smaller one in this article. In fact all my class 20's are fitted with that size. Whatever we think its down to each persons choice, thank goodness there is a variation available. I would post my U-tube stuff but I don't think it really does it justice.
