    Alderford

Hi Carl. I have to say you have a cracking layout mate. Loved the spread in RM this month. Can I ask, why Alderford? I thought you might have taken it from a David Eddings novel Regards Lez.Z.
  2. Hi there Anthony. I have to say that it looks beter with a spot of brown mate. I would also give it a hint of green to suggest a bit of moss at the bottom but don't over do it. Regards Lez.Z.
  3. Hi there Dave. It all looks very good mate. I have to say I just love the green Kirtley. A Kays you say, very nice. I had a go at the Falcon brass one years ago but the wheel base was all wrong, well it didn't match up with the Gibson frames anyway. I never did figure out for sure which was right but my money was on the Gibson frames. I have a straight frame scratch build half done in a drawer in the workshop that I haven't touched for about 17 years.........oh well one day......... Regards Lez.Z.
  4. Hi guys Thanks for the encouragment. I shall just tease you all with one of the projects that has stopped progress on the layout. Its my test track for running in prior to chipping. I built it from a control panel from a previous layout. It has both DC and DCC control and the DCC is also switchable between progam and main track. Not too bad eh? Regards LezZ
  5. Hi Jaz Looking good, your modeling skills are top notch. Makes my efforts seem poor by comparison. One day I will pluck up enough courage to start a thread of my layout. I've been at it for nearly 10 years now and I haven't even built all the boards yet let alone started scenery although all of the track is laid on the lower and middle levels. Trouble is I get distracted by my other hobbies and DIY projects. Regards Lez.Z.
  6. Hi Jaz It was her dad's fault.....Lady Jane Grey I mean regards Lez.Z.
  7. Hi guys Its comming on very well. I would say to the chap who asked about the MG that it looks like a MK1 E type Jag to me...............just saying don't want to start a row or anything Regards Lez.
  8. Hi there. Nice to see a FFR Land Rover in detail. The red lever is 2-4 wheel drive and the yellow one which you push down is to select low range. If I remember right you can change from 2 to 4 wheel drive on the move but you have to be stationary to select low range. To go back to high range again you have to change back to 2 wheel drive with the red lever which pops the yellow one back up. Or that might just be BS the details become fuzzy due to the mists of time and its been around 20 years since I last drove a 3/4 tonne FFR rover in anger. Regards Lez.
  9. Hi Mike. Now I know this is going to sound stupid but have you thought about banking the helex? Super elevation I mean, although you could bank the whole thing like a race track, like the old track at Monza or the super speedway ovals the "septics" race around, as its hidden it wouldn't mater if it looks as stupid as it sounds. Works for the real thing as it helps to mitigate the centrafugal force and gives higher speeds through the curve. So it should have the effect of lowering the resistance and thus increase the hauling capacity of the locos. You can exagerate the degree of banking to a point where its not quite tipping over. Just don't stop on the helex and it should work out fine although I would fit some sort of barrier on the inside so that if the worst happens your prize stock won't hit the deck. Just a thought haven't tried it myself you understand but as you've come this far its got to be worth a punt. Regards Lez.Z.
  10. Hi. How about "Wyvern's Hollow"? Or "Wyvern's Cross"? Regards Lez.
  11. Hi there. I use a piece of 25mm x 25mm x 2.5mm ally angle 2 meters long cost around a fiver a lump down the local hardwhare store. Sorry Regards Lez.
  12. Hi That 22 looks real good. I got a Hattons 28 in blue from my daughter and son in law and wifey brought the sound chip for it. Its made me deside to flog all my EWS and large logo stock on fleebay and go green/blue with a bit of steam thrown in for good messure. I have just GOT to get me one of these :D Regards Lez.Z.
  13. Hi there. I love this thread you work with more than card and paper is very very good. With regard to the state of the road if anything its far to good mate. Back in the day I worked as a courier and the road into Liverpool St red star was far worse than that. You don't have nearly enough pot holes Keep up the very fine work mate.
  14. Hi mate. This looks promising. As for the viaduct. Look at it this way. Dissused is an exersise in scenic modeling with rusty and over grown track with perhaps a decrepid set of bufferstops and a rusty old bit of temperary corrigated iron fencing at the missing span with the truncated track used as a cripple road for rotting old stock maybe with a bunch of kiddies building a "camp" in say a knackerd old brakevan or utility van. If you model it as an in use line then its a place to park a bit of passenger stock at a red signal with the driver on the phone calling the box to find out what the hold up is. Scope here for the odd passinger leaning out of open a window to get a beter view etc. Either way has possibilitys. Look forward seeing your progress.

The progress may be slow mate but the quallity is without doubt outstanding Grats on finding a new job quickly also not easy these days
  16. Hi. I use a fine brush and Humbrol matt 34 as the new formular seems to be more translucente than the older stock was which in this case is a good thing. I tend to apply a small blob of paint and then drag it in the direction of gravity, its easyer to do than tell lol. As with all things practise is the key. My insiration is "The Art of Weathering" Martin Welch, published by Wild Swan. I'm sorry I have no examples on hand to show you my railway modeling is on hold atm and my stock is completly inacsessable although I'm doing some millitary stuff Tanks don't tend to be steam powered so thats not much help. I hope that helps regards Lez.Z.
  17. Hi there. That is very nice work indeed mate. This might be improved by adding white water stains/dribbles from places that would leak steam/water. For instance boiler pipe work, cylinder ends, washout plug and anywhere pipes are joined by flanges or where there are gasgets that can fail. Please do not take this as a critisum it is not intended as such but I think it would add the finishing touch to what is already a very well exicuted piece of weathering. Regards Lez.Z.
