  2. thank you very much for posting these pics spent the best part of the nineties working at Glazebrook east jn and loved every minuite was there for the rationalisation and resignaling of the loop from goods to passenger loop and the eventual lifting of the oil sidings . looking at those pics of the old box most of the frame is still in situ except those that have been used to replace broken levers elswhere in the frame internaly the roof has been lowered and flourecent lighting installed
  3. because we have days like today to look back on when we do go and have a big day out we Oldham may be likkle club on the edge of the pennines we may not win lots of silver wear but you know what i love it because when we goto Goodison and get a result in the FA cup one week after going to Elland road and hammering Dirty leeds its all the sweeter ! you can keep your champions league and your fancy footballers the lower leagues are where its at .

  11. had the misfortune to smack one full on whilst co driving on the cheviots in the eightys made a right mess of the front of our sd1 as we were flat in fifth at the time ! did get some nice stakes of the sqaudies who helped us get going again after spinning off in shock
  12. yes it has late ninties early naughtys the line was slewed accross on to the now disused section and the trackbed and steel work completley renewed and refurbished the bridge between the viaduct and irlam staion was also removed at the same time and replaced with an embankment that as stated previousley was made up of polystyrene blocks .the track was then slewed back onto the now renewed section of the bridge .this made life much easier for the signalmen at glazebrook as the port clarence tanks no longer had to come bang road from trafford park everynight due to the weight restiction on the down line side of the viaduct negating the need to instigate single line working over the up & a t3 posesion on the down .
  13. and then they can whip up thier campaign to get rid of woy and get there golden boy " our arry " in the ingerland job
  14. realy interesting pics those especialy if you compare it with now ! britisj tar distilers is being redeveloped as a housing estate the old ship canal "main line " is now the route of irlam bypass including a large tunnel under the carrington line just to the left of the viaduct and the steelworks/power staition is now irlam industrail estate (northbank) where the fourth of the ships is docked in the lower pic is a ship served container terminal the steel bridge that lead to the cws works just before irlam station is still there but the bridge just before the ship canal bridge was demolished and replaced with an embankment using polystyrene blocks as hardcore of all things the fireless steam engine that used to work the gasworks sidings that had been rotting away in a nearby park as a climbing frame is now cleaned up and parked next to the bypass just where by the new tunnel mouth
  15. if you follow the link to the urban exploreres site they show a report with pictures from inside the tunnel showing the bracing to stop it collapsing
  16. that basicley describes the plan yes there was also one floated of reopening the line from kenyon jn to glazebrook west jn so the liners could run up the wcml then onto chat moss kenyon through culcheth glazebrook then on to trafford park . levers one to thirteen at glazebrook box were origanaly designed to operate west jn but it was abolished before they were brought into use
  17. re the red still shows at skelton pic if you look at glazebrook sidings the signal out of the now disconected oil sidings is still lit !
  18. used to work in glazebrook box and your right the line has not been built on yet also the new baypass tunnled under the line rather than making a cutting heard many roumers about this line being reopend with a curve to allow frieght liners to run into trafford park without having to use the picc - deansgate bottleneck would of been a junction with the clc & l&nwr built at adswood rd
  19. Urban explorer report from inside the partialy filled and heavily braced tiviot dale tunnel http://nwex.co.uk/showthread.php?t=6880&highlight=stockport+tunnel

  23. i dont remember the derailment but i know do who caused it hes married to our sister ! can remember seeing the train tho you need either a flicker or photobucket account and you link them from there bro late afternoon between the "showers " supprised how much is left down there to be honest tho the warehouse is beggining to realy deteriorate now lots of slates blown off the roof etc . the engine shed further up is slowly being destroyed by the local vandals tho the coalstage/fuel point is still in pretty good nick
  24. pretty much spot on kev the micklehurst loop was lifted around 1972-3 can remember the lifting trian coming past the bottom of my garden at uppermill the junction to millbrook went around 79 the siding in the center road was used when york mail used to split there on the way to stockport think that went around the time the attochem siding was installed talking of millbrook was down there yesterday looking at the warehouse the coal drops are still there complete with the mechanism to open bottom doors someone has excavated the steps down to the conveyor underneath sadly they have scavenged all the bits of conveyor from in there and are busy collecting any bits of scrap they can find to "way in"
