  1. Well, as long as the project is Jason's 1:1 Scale Turbo Train New Build, it probably should have opening doors, anything else, perhaps less so. Stephen
  2. This seemed to be the place to post this, but Jerry Joe Jacobson passed away Wednesday September 13, 2017 at 74 years old. An Obituary for the founder of the Age of Steam Roundhouse project is posted on their website: http://ageofsteamroundhouse.com/images/news_PDFs/JJJ_obit_formatted.pdf The Fort Wayne Railroad Society who is in the area for private tours of the roundhouse and the Cayuga Valley Scenic's Steam in the Valley this weekend and next placed his name under the Engineers Window on Nickel Plate Road 765 for this weekend (not sure how long it will be left there in tribute). https://twitter.com/FortWayneRails/status/908442734695899136 Regards, Stephen Gardiner
  3. This is great news. I built a Hornby Pug Conversion using the ARC Models Resin body a couple of years ago for NCB22 at the Bowes, but somewhere along the line I did something and fried the motor. I haven't yet been able to source a new motor, but the EP shots of the Hattons version look far better anyways. I suspect I'll be ordering a sister to my now dead AB 14" to run around together: ARC Models Andrew Barclay Kit by Stephen Gardiner, on Flickr Hopefully this is a great success and there are more runs of livery's and numbers down the road. Stephen
  4. I say you get away with the first shot at Bill, but that he never speaks to you again if you actually try and make him come up with a working tilt mechanism for N Scale!! While having done it in one scale definitely eases the data gathering side of a project, as i've learned from people asking me to re-scale things in my Shapeways store, it isn't quite as simple as just saying "Make it Smaller" and hitting print. Not a project for me, but I always enjoy watching the progress on things like RevolutioNTrains as its another insight into how much work goes into little trains! Stephen
  5. Fair enough, i never actually checked if they had bought any second hand units, i only checked my list of original purchassors. I don't think i've ever seen a CP GP40-2, but if they only had 8 second hand units, that would be a bit of a rare beast. Stephen
  6. Hi James, There are a couple of things, CPR never owned any GP40-2's, and even if they had, by the time it was in production, they would have been delivered in Action Red Multimark not Maroon&Grey as CPR switched to the Action Red/Multimark in 1968, and the GP40-2 entered production in 1972. I'll take a dig about and see if i can figure out what that FUnit is and if there is glazing to fit it. Stephen
  7. The SW1200RS would still have been the core of the CPR shunting fleet in the 1970's. Rapido Trains is doing them, the order deadline is September 15th. Not affiliated with Rapido, but their product page including a "master class" on the SW1200RS is here: https://rapidotrains.com/ho-gmd-sw1200rs/ In terms of your spotting question, GP's of that era are visualy very similar, a lot of the differences are Mechanical. I am completely uses loco spotting to be able to tell you what type of locomotive a unit is without looking up the road number when out photographing. What i can say, is that the -35's built in the 1960's used a 567 prime mover and generated 2,500HP, and a number of railroads were trading in first gen cowl units on them, so they sometimes had older style trucks or even alco trucks. The -40-2's built in the 1970's had 645 prime movers at 3,000hp. As for your F, do you know who the manufacturer is? That will go a long way to knowing if an aftermarket set of windows is available that should fit it or not. Hope that helps some. Stephen
  8. Kristal Clear works just fine in HO, though there is a maximum size. I have a passenger car body coming that i am considering at least trying a larger window glazing with using this rather than clear styrene behind to get a more flush looking glazing, though the car also has tinted windows, so i may wind up back with clear plastic just since it will be easier to paint with Tamiya Smoke. 9. Not remotely on topic, but having seen the various versions of the TV show "Border Security" (there is an Oz, Canadian CBSA and US version at least), that sounds about right for the level of care when they are searching a package. They don't strike me as knowing what to make of a model train. I know the CBSA clearly doesn't know what to make of model train deliveries as they take forever to clear customs (and Shapeways takes even longer), but i've yet to have one arrive looking like its been gutted by the border types. For remotely on topic, my last shipment from Hattons earlier this year felt like it took forever to arrive, to the point where i was on the verge of contacting them with a request for a search when it finally appeared. I never know who to blame (normally i blame Canada Post), but someone else said they are using the DHL option, i don't know if they are better in the UK, but DHL is a tire fire in Canada and wouldn't let them be the delivery end of something coming to me unless it was the absolute only option available. Stephen
  10. In addition to getting your Humbrol railway acrylics and enamels from Model Railway Imports and Steve as I do, at least some main stream hobby stores have racks of the Humbrol Enamel line of paint. I know for example Wheels & Wings Hobbies on Danforth Ave in Toronto does, but he can't/won't get the acrylics or railway colours as he has no market for them. Stephen
  11. The first image on this page should help you with that proto-identification on the wrap around dots!! http://www.scot-rail.co.uk/page/class+156 Don't want you going too crazy looking! I can't wait for my sound/DCC to arrive in Septemberish or whenever it is they are getting to the UK to then be forwarded on the rest of the way here. Stephen
  12. Same, I'd rather be sure that when mine makes the trip from the UK with the postal service, that any defects are from their mis-handling and i can make replacement/return their problem, than receiving a product that doesn't run. I'm still looking forward to it arriving, but am happy to wait longer if that guarantees a resolution to the issues experienced by some in the early deliveries. Stephen
  13. Yup, Jason's efforts to spread rapidos wings across the Atlantic are definitely working, you guys have already learned the traditional lament about how whatever they've just announced isn't the wharsit you wanted and they should have done this one item that five people want for their super specialized layout/era!! Back to more serious mode, looks like a fun day and an interesting model. Having seen the pre production versions of the NA New Looks, in sure the U.K. Bus will blow people away when samples are available and the production ones arrive in the future. Stephen
  14. Fringe benefits of being involved in the Toronto Railway Museum (a Rapido Dealer) and being in Toronto not Yorkshire? Maybe if you offer him some scotch he'll bring it over to you when the bus scanning party happens!! Stephen
  15. Thanks for keeping us posted. If i read that right, the shipping order is Saltire no Sound, then Barbie no Sound, then both with sound? I saw the factory sample thats in the picture above in Post #357 at the Rapido Dealers BBQ last week here in Toronto, it looks fantastic in person, I can't wait for them to eventually get here and have mine to run!! Stephen
  16. I'd say no!! If Janet (Rapido's accountant) hated him buying a bus that runs, this one would be a poor choice for his second. I was able to take a close look and poke around on Sunday before driving back to Toronto. There be a big empty space where the motor should be under the hood at the front of the bus. If Jason wants to get into the Kosher Chip Truck business, maybe, but assuming he intends to remain in making model trains and buses, i wouldn't!! Couple of better pictures below: -Stephen
  17. Yeah, the rain has made a mess of today in Ottawa. And on driving by again today in a downpour, it may actually be closed fully, it might have been the berry farm trailer in front that made it look open when I passed by Friday. Either way, hopefully I get a few dry minutes tomorrow morning for some photography in the morning before I hit the road. Stephen
  18. It's still a chip wagon between Manotick and Barhaven in Ottawa (even if it is for sale), it's about five minutes from me as I type in my parents house, I was actually planning on taking some pictures tomorrow or Sunday if the rain stops before heading home to Toronto. Stephen
  19. Selfishly, Taw being delayed is fantastic as if it slips past next weekend, the old credit card bill gets pushed off to August before its due. If it slips a month to beyond mid July, even better for my bank balance. Though the modeller side of me wants it to arrive so I can get it out, run it, and put it to use! Stephen
  20. On a tourist line, they are often used as party spaces or group charter vehicles, because there is something attractive from lots of different cultural reasons about riding in the little red caboose on the end of a train. As far as i am aware, in most cases there is no requirement for them on a tourist line or train from an operational perspective, but as they can be revenue spinners from private parties and group charters, you often see them. Cheers, Stephen
  21. Shapeways has posted in their forums that the new pricing will go live on Wednesday May 24th now. -Stephen
  22. I'm not sure this qualifies as a special offer. I'm very concerned that many of my models will be in the goes up in price category as they are already larger being primarily HO scale structures and rail vehicles. We shall see. I can see this cutting back on how much 3D printing I am doing in the future. Stephen
  23. That's quite the tower, did you make jigs to get forms right and for cutting strip lengths consistent, or are you just really good with a chopper? I look forward to seeing your continued progress. Stephe
  24. Thanks, but there is an issue with your website. For me to place an order from Canada I have to pay £8.00 shipping on a £0.10 pre order? Both the collect at Shildon or free U.K. Shipping options will not let me enter a Canadian address, the international shipping option will, but I'm not paying $16.00 for a $0.20 reservation (exchange rate rounded for convenience, it's not quite 2:1 anymore). Any insight on what to do would be appreciated, or if I can just place a reservation via email. Cheers, Stephen
  25. Don't give Charlie ideas!!! If he's half as twisted and likes "Secret Sounds" on the decoders like Jason does, that might just make it onto the sound chip!! (then again, that would probably actually push me over the top to get sound knowing that was hidden as a horn option!) Stephen
