...that Peco and Hornby were completely unaware of each others plans for TT and only a chance conversation revealed their plans to each other.

I do wonder, given their range of  gwr based laser cut kits, if Peco were 'testing the water' for' another go at the Collett goods - or did perhaps the n gauge offering put them off forever...?

Shouldn't the crimson set be carrying both an 'S' suffix as well as prefix or have I missed it somewhere in the discussion?

I think I have just answered my own question, because I have noticed the picture of set 130 in Fareham station in 1953 on the  'Blood and Custard' website, and the suffix 's' is there. along with notes on the absence of First Class  '1's on the composite. Most useful site, and I should have checked there first!  https://www.bloodandcustard.com/SR-CoachingSets-LSWR-CrossCountrySets130-324.html

  3. In recent years I have been an impulsive/compulsive buyer of new locos - but thanks to the recent Heljan price rises, and various very helpful comments in this thread, I have at last succeeded in putting my flexible friend back in the wallet, where it can reside between the ten shilling and pound notes Thank you to all contributors - I don't need a class 14 after all...   :-)

Still, Heljan pulling their TT developments frees up more Krone for investment in OO, so every cloud and all that.

Well I remember TT first time around, which probably means that eyesight is no longer up to it.   If Heljan devote some of their Krone to small, detailed locos in OO which can run well on a shelf layout then that is indeed a silver lining I reckon....

There was only ever one class 04 allocated to Bescot and that was for only a relatively brief time.  It came with a handful of 03s which all moved on, however the solitary 04 was not so lucky and ws withdrawn in 1968.

If "Rapidoandy" chooses D2220 as one of the run of Rapido models I will have have one !!!

Did all the 04s get the conical exhaust, or did any have the "flowerpot" that some 03s were fitted with ?

They all had conical exhausts but I there were (at least) two patterns of cab.

Interesting that. In the pictures I have of D2201 it seems to have a very 'straigh't pipe, whereas D2281, also with skirts, seems to have the more traditional conical shape.

Growing up in Reading ( living in Caversham) I am well aware of its bad points. Recent visits (model railway related)  have shown they appear to be trying to make it worse. Although that is true of most places.

    Don

I have to agree. I was at Uni there in the early 70s and I really liked the place. Went back for the first time in 45 years last year.......one really should not go back....!!

Lets hope they don't repeat fiasco of the N gauge  2251 with a Grange tender, a tender only one of the 120 members of the class briefly hauled.

Strange they have Collett 2251 reproduced at 1:120 in todays Railway Modeller....and is that a Grange tender...?

I ordered examples of all three BR Terriers direct from Dapol a couple of weeks ago.

Sadly, all three have been returned for replacement.

Two ran poorly and the third was received minus lamp irons and smokebox dart.

    I await their replacements.

    Rob.

Yes I sent one back to Dapol, and asked them to replace or 'sort it out' - it took about three weeks, and I'm pretty sure it was the original engine I got back - but it is now a superb runner.

But that is in addition to any other discounts already applied - generally 15% to 50%.

Yes that's true - and I hadn't noticed that the discount is going on for a week, so there is plenty of time to put several of those 'bits' that you need into the basket and get a discount on the whole lot - that certainly makes it more attractive....

Didn't get to count them, but had an invasion by local farmer's sheep,  they almost cleared my Veg. patch in double quick time!  I say almost cleared because it seems that sheep don't like leeks.

This may not be a statistically valid sample of sheep taste preferences, but I have not seen any rebuttal of the conclusions drawn.

    Lots of Sheep....Wales....Leeks....makes sense....

Given today's confirmation, if ratified next week, there will be no !eval restrictions to holding a full-scale event.

How wise that is, how morally appropriate it may be and how viable in practice it is are completely different and obviously not a government or local authority concern any longer after 19 July.

So it becomes a personal responsibilty/let the buyer beware sort of thing...

  12. Yes I really think we need a new thread on making more of what we already have (particularly engine wise) - it could be called something like 'Parsimony, frugality and downright stinginess'!  Having said that, it is probably not just the money involved - it is the sense of disappointment we all seem to experience when the package arrives and it contains something which looks great but just will not perform in the way it ought too. I know I have dug out my old reliable panniers, collett goods and 45xxs - high time I made more of them...!

I'm ranting - I have decided what I am going to do, and that is to not buy any new engines unless I can go to my local model shop (Alton for me) where I can have anything that might tempt me test run! Oh, and avoid the online 'bargains'...!
