  1. I do wonder, given their range of gwr based laser cut kits, if Peco were 'testing the water' for' another go at the Collett goods - or did perhaps the n gauge offering put them off forever...?
  2. I reckon that that is a pretty fair survey.
  3. I think I have just answered my own question, because I have noticed the picture of set 130 in Fareham station in 1953 on the 'Blood and Custard' website, and the suffix 's' is there. along with notes on the absence of First Class '1's on the composite. Most useful site, and I should have checked there first! https://www.bloodandcustard.com/SR-CoachingSets-LSWR-CrossCountrySets130-324.html
  4. Shouldn't the crimson set be carrying both an 'S' suffix as well as prefix or have I missed it somewhere in the discussion?
  5. In recent years I have been an impulsive/compulsive buyer of new locos - but thanks to the recent Heljan price rises, and various very helpful comments in this thread, I have at last succeeded in putting my flexible friend back in the wallet, where it can reside between the ten shilling and pound notes Thank you to all contributors - I don't need a class 14 after all... :-)
  6. Well I remember TT first time around, which probably means that eyesight is no longer up to it. If Heljan devote some of their Krone to small, detailed locos in OO which can run well on a shelf layout then that is indeed a silver lining I reckon....
  7. Interesting that. In the pictures I have of D2201 it seems to have a very 'straigh't pipe, whereas D2281, also with skirts, seems to have the more traditional conical shape.
  8. https://nevardmedia.blogspot.com/search?q=concrete in Model Rail number 152 if you can find one
  9. I have to agree. I was at Uni there in the early 70s and I really liked the place. Went back for the first time in 45 years last year.......one really should not go back....!!
  10. Hooray!! https://www.gaugemasterretail.com/magento/catalog/product/view/id/90092/s/-Heljan-HN3160/?utm_source=Retail+Newsletters&utm_campaign=58d0f1e43f-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2022_06_13_02_16&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_dbefa464fd-58d0f1e43f-318089277
  11. Strange they have Collett 2251 reproduced at 1:120 in todays Railway Modeller....and is that a Grange tender...?
  12. Yes I sent one back to Dapol, and asked them to replace or 'sort it out' - it took about three weeks, and I'm pretty sure it was the original engine I got back - but it is now a superb runner.
  13. Bradford Barton meets Ben Ashworth - lovely pictures!
  14. Yes that's true - and I hadn't noticed that the discount is going on for a week, so there is plenty of time to put several of those 'bits' that you need into the basket and get a discount on the whole lot - that certainly makes it more attractive....
  15. 5%....not exactly overwhelming.... I think I would have preferred a few targetted items with a bigger discount - or perhaps just free postage...
  16. Some nice stills from the film on the always useful railwaymoviedatabase site: http://railwaymoviedatabase.com/the-titfield-thunderbolt-a-pictorial-tribute-to-the-1952-film/
  17. Just spotted a nice bit of shunting action and some wagon details in the Chilldrens Film Foundation film 'Night Ferry' on Talking Pictures at the moment ... I've just checked and you can find five minutes of it on Youtube at
  18. So it becomes a personal responsibilty/let the buyer beware sort of thing...
  19. So......https://www.countypress.co.uk/news/16108477.ewe-dunnit-isle-of-wight-polices-bizarre-appeal-after-mystery-flock-of-sheep-appears-in-field/
  20. Yes I really think we need a new thread on making more of what we already have (particularly engine wise) - it could be called something like 'Parsimony, frugality and downright stinginess'! Having said that, it is probably not just the money involved - it is the sense of disappointment we all seem to experience when the package arrives and it contains something which looks great but just will not perform in the way it ought too. I know I have dug out my old reliable panniers, collett goods and 45xxs - high time I made more of them...! I'm ranting - I have decided what I am going to do, and that is to not buy any new engines unless I can go to my local model shop (Alton for me) where I can have anything that might tempt me test run! Oh, and avoid the online 'bargains'...!
  21. I'm glad you said that! A new pedigree terrier turned up this weekend, and it has turned out to be a right dog...
