  1. Decided to fit a "dual cooker appliance outlet" to the wall, that's one in and 2 out. It can take 16mm^2 cable . Then it will be separate cables to hob and oven. That will make a much neater job of it. It will be below the hob, but above the oven and unseen once fitted. Bits should arrive tomorrow, so that will be fitted Wednesday. It will make disconnecting and moving units easier later, there is a plan to move the oven up to hob level. That will make getting hot oven trays out a lot safer and easier.
  2. That's annoying just typing the below posting and a popup from this website appeared where I was about to hit the screen and when I did hit it, it leapt onto another screen and lost the typing.. That was one pig of a job. The old hob had a central surface mounted connection area, plenty of room of cables and easy to do connections. The new hob has the connections in a 2 inch deep well in the bottom of the hob, to a glorified choc block. The choc block was EXTREMELY tight for 10mm^2 British cooker cabling. Wires kept catching on the edges... This system is 10mm^2 from the wall, with 6mm^2 looped onto the oven.. The cables are supposed to do a 90 left from the choc block into a cable clamp, impossible with flat cabling unless you do a folded bend. There's not enough room for two cables to do that!! So I've left the cable clamp off, no one is going to be pulling that hob around... Next problem, the new hob has it's connection box on one edge.. that fouled the side of the kitchen unit, so a hollow had to be cut out for it to fit.. Just need to do a trim piece to hide the cut out in the side of the kitchen unit.. All "rings" tested ok. Too late in the day to start the mower as I'd have to leave it out all night near the driveway gates...
  3. Where's the vinyl roof?
  4. So it seems, I'm not a bussy, other than knowing the family 0wned some Burlingham Seagulls in the dim and very distant past that's the limit of my knowledge of busses. Ah, looking it up, the most common double decker owned by Wilts and Dorset were Bristol KG5s with an ECW low bridge body... Glad I wasn't the driver of the chassis going from Bristol to Lowestoft...
  5. Nice to see the old Wilts and Dorset bus, the village I lived in in Wiltshire 1963-71 was served by the number 8 bus from Andover to Salisbury, it still is, occasionally used that on the way to and from school. Though that route used Routemasters back then. The observant among you will note that's a route from Hampshire to Wiltshire. Don't think I ever saw a Hants and Wilts bus. Mooring Awl. 3.5 hours, 1 hour, 2 hours , 1 hours sleep. Initially helped by pink pills, my knee is a lot better than late yesterday. Ben the I'd like out Collie, was only 15 minutes early today, he enjoyed following a trail, probably the muntjac I saw wandering around yesterday. No Wind!!! Blue welkin mostly.. Hmm 97sqm apartment = 1044 sqft This house is about 1200 sqft. So the apartment is not much smaller.. However there's about another 500sqft of mobile home and 1000sqft of garage and sheddery out there😀 Plans for today, Change hob, Work on lawnmower But first Time for breaky.
  6. When they parked a yank aircraft carrier near the Clyde a couple of years ago, a notice to mariners went out, GPS temporarily degraded in that area.
  7. Probably in the medical facility the way my knee is feeling...
  8. I've twice hit deer, luckily only at 30 mph or less and both muntjac which are small. I have a by had the big Red deer cross my path but avoided them luckily... Swmbo has a star Trek movie on... Again....
  9. Afternoon Awl, Decided to go to the sailing club, too windy to sail in BM, gusting 35 mph, only 11 got their boats out. Of which 9 sailed.. Extracted BM from her moorings with difficulty, the wind was pushing her back into the moorings, once I got her out a strong incoming tide started washing us up river. That made for a hard row tow across to the club, moored BM strategically out of the wind. Muggacoffee and a bacon butty.. Eased side stays and gooseneck bracing stays. Tried new wedge, too big, which wasn't a surprise, so I trimmed it to fit and it did.. Looking at the mast it was then leaning forward..but.. When bracing and side stays were tightened up the overall effect was vertical. So that when 1/5 of BMs all up weight sits in the back, the mast will be tilted back. During this I got a foot caught in a sheet as I made for the bank off the boat, hit my already sore knee on the quay, then the rest of me hit the deck somewhat hard.. Second race series only 7 sailed, heard from the next club 3 miles up river, racing had been abandoned. The next job was replacing the blocks in the steering gear. Removal of the old ones was slightly difficult, several screws were refusing to be extracted easily. They ended up being replaced once they had been pliered out. Putting the new ones in was somewhat easier. Then the entire system was set up, which took three rounds of tighten and adjust. Muggacoffee and lunch.. 3rd race only 5 boats sailed. I suspect next week both stays and steering will need tightening again as they settled in their new positions. Then towed BM back across the river, trouble was the BM kept trying to overtake with the wind. Arrived at her moorings sideways, took a couple of attempts to get her nose into the mooring then swinging her stern in line and then the wind pushed her in.
  10. I've learnt to go woof.. it gets more attention... Maybe learn to neigh.... Mooring Awl, 2.5 hours sleep, 2.5 hours sleep, 2.5 hours sleep.. a good total. Left knee playing up, don't know why, I don't remember doing anything to it lately, but it's been steadily getting worse. Ben the surprised Collie was taken for an early walk, I needed some air... Got to much air, to much very chilly air.. it's still blowing a hoolie out there from the north. The windspeed is currently 35 mph, which is way too much for sailing, the forecast max is 25 mph which is still a bit much. If it doesn't seriously reduce by leaving time I'll stay home and earn brownie points. Thin high cloud forecast to change to a blue welkin later. There's quite a few cordylines in gardens around Norfolk, some in the next village... Time to think of something to eat...
  11. Road works have gone mad here too, only not major, they are chucking gravel at everything.. but they appear to have put up all the signs up at once. No matter if that particular bit of road is being gravelled that day or even that week.. I do wonder if it's the national trust having a lack of volunteers, there seems to be a general lessening of people volunteering. Plus the NT has upset volunteers in many places with "woke" and politically correct interpretations of everything.. no doubt that includes gardeners used to keeping things neat and tidy.
  12. Final bit for BM arrived, bag 400mm by 200mm no packing materials it didn't need them. Item inside 20mm by 30 mm.
  13. More seriously I've seen these deployed (door bump springs) With a dowel plugged in where the plastic cap is about a foot long, spaced 2 ft apart, then the dowel ends roped together..
  14. I see you protected yourself from the Awl by wrapping thing up....
  15. Ben would quite happily eat anything we gave to him, but he's not in a Labrador's league. We are careful on what he gets, so "mixed" take away foods he doesn't get. Many human foods are toxic to Doggies. Postie arrived, parcel with bits for lawn mower, too darn cold to be lying outside on the floor fitting that. Poo sticks for swmbo, which reminds me must do mine. The bits for the boat arrived in Norwich, just too late for today's delivery here. Bits for spinny thingy that arrived yesterday, fitted, as they're epoxied in place, that stops further work till Monday. Now to research next bit of work on spinny thingy. Then pay the last quarters electrickery bill for the MRC £608..
  16. Hmm server unavailable... Then it all sprang into life... Mooring Awl, 3 hours sleep, long awake, 2 hours sleep, 1 hours sleep. Ben the happy Collie bounced his way down the garden and had a good snuffle around. Meanwhile I sheltered behind trees and bushes from a near 40mph wind, that's at 7C, it's supposed to reach a huge 8 C later.. definitely padded overalls time when I head to the workshop later. I'll be keeping them on for Ben's long walk. Stalham population 6000 ish. Has... Turkish, Thai, Chinese*2, British * 2 takeaways, one Chinese restaurant, one very good filled baguette shop in a very good butchers, several cafes... Two pubs, one of which does good food, Oddly the Thai advertises itself as a Chinese but has both foods on the menu, all are run by their appropriate nationalities.. how close they are to their true national produce I have no idea.. While checking Stalham's population, I discovered it has doubled since 2001, ( we arrived a few miles away in 1999) they are still building houses there. Ben meanwhile has enjoyed a larger than normal bit of my bacon sarnie.. Plans for today.. Electric spinny thing...
  17. Clean windows? We don't bother, something to do with having specified self cleaning glass when we had this place double glazed 20 years ago. Never even had to clean a splat from a Feathered dive bomber, the next rain and it washes off. I suspect if I'd had them washed regularly then over the years it would have gradually worn the coating away. Inside? Well that does need a wipe down occasionally. Mooring Awl , 4 hours sleep, 1, hours sleep, 2 hours sleep. A ton of eco coal is due to arrive in ten minutes (07:20), I'll bet we are the first delivery this morning.. ( turned out to be the third delivery!!! Ben's been called in for blood tests, at 09:00 no food first, then have something to eat, then more bloods again at 11:00. Swmbo will feed him in the carpark. Then then take him for a walk, along the nearest public foot path, which happens to be the old muddle and go nowhere track bed from Stalham to Dilham, the old station site is the carpark opposite the vets... Once Theyve gone, I'll have breaky then get ready for the museum. Hmm just had a power Off/ on, TV reset, router has dropped out and will take a couple of minutes to reboot. The missing item from Amazon is on its way via royal mail.. most unusual. Evening Awl All the above was written this morning by the time the coal man had delivered, Swmbo had departed with Ben, it was getting somewhat of late for the radar museum.. Got there to find the museum manager somewhat worried... Every one was late, I was second to arrive, just... I was just signing in when someone wrang in off sick. About ten minutes later volunteers started arriving.. a very relieved manager.. The day went well a serious amount of muddling was done and the last of the fencing pins inserted. 500 to 600 in all.. painted the heads grey, that worked better that expected, I didn't have to the shafts as well. More pins were not so far pushed in, then painted brown and scrubbing pad bits glued on to make trees. Channelled my inner Lucia today , the wall board poster I glued together last week had it's cracks and missing tiny bits filled with milliput. next week sanding and painting. It's been blowing a very chilly hoolie all day, currently rain is hammering on the windows.. Most of the visitors today were quite late on.. Then to the MRC via the chippy. Both went well. News on Ben from SWMBO, she and Ben arrived at the vets ok, he was happy until the vet decided to take his blood in an upstairs room. Ben doesn't do stairs anymore he was very distressed at the thought, point blank refused and lay down . The vet and an assistant had to carry him up. He was ok with the blood being taken, but was even more distressed at being carried down the stairs. Swmbo then fed him and took him for a walk . They were back early but swmbo found a new art gallery near the vets to look around that allowed Ben to enter... The vet didn't try to get him upstairs for the second set of tests but used the downstairs normal room.. He was then happy going home and has been spoilt all day.. the test results aren't due back till tomorrow afternoon.. Legs are now defrosting, I'm getting warmer.. Muggachoccy gone Good night Awl.
  18. Plenty of woolley shops in Norfolk.. somehow I've been in many. Though swmbo often spins any passing sheep's or dog's.... "The works " has, on the odd occasion, had wool.. as have B&M stores, and even poundland.. Buying almost anything from hobbycraft is expensive... We've now got all of two bluebells in the garden. Bits for spinny thing, and the USB charge hub have just arrived.
  19. When I built the model Railway shed, I built a a foundation of breeze blocks all the way round, then a damp proof course, then a ring of heavy timbers onto which i built the shed. The outer walls of the shed overhang but don't touch the top of the breeze blocks so there is no chance of rain collecting on the top of the breeze blocks or DPC.
  20. I looked at joining various trade bodies, one I selected, but then they increased the level of qualification needed. Then I realised , those in the society were pulling up the ladder behind themselves. The oldest members cannot have had the relevant even earlier electronics qualifications because they didn't exist when the society started. Looking at the history, the qualifications required increased a couple of times. Afternoon Awl, Ben's sample delivered, no phone call with the results yet. Then to the MRC, toilet room emptied, walls washed, pipe work cleaned , floor washed, before anyone else arrived. Discussions on cupboards sinks etc Measurements taken, The top of the cupboard has been made. Three into one toilet room don't go, so I painted a wall in the clubroom I'd previously filled. Painted? Well just the repairs and old pencil marks, there used to be a bench there. . Next time I'll roller the lot. Then to an orange shed, entertainment on the way.. someone doing a 450 degree turn at a roundabout. Deltic and a half spent, sand, timber, and a new hob. SWMBO doesn't know about the hob, I'll fit it Tuesday when she's out weaving and see if she notices. The three blocks for BM arrived yesterday, the errant one has got an apology, should arrive tomorrow. Bits for SWMBO's electric spinny thingy should arrive today along with the USB hub. Eta 1 hour. Ocular covering checking required...
  21. Strangely walking to the MRC AGM a couple of nights ago, I saw someone's front porch was being held up by pied de poteaux, this is as built comparatively recently. However I don't think it is much good, the cup holding the foot of the beam above , had signs of water and soggyness into the wood.. Like this but with an adjustable threaded support rod. Nice water trap..
  22. Worst interview.. with the police comms section. Radios repair, setting up remote incident transmitters etc. 3/4 of the interview was race relations obviously by someone in HR who'd never worked with other nationalities... Thing was, it wasn't a customer facing job, and the percentage of other races in Norfolk is tiny, this ain't Leicester or London. I have turned down other posts, twice because of pathetic pay offers, twice because when I got there, I thought... What a dump.... Also turned down interviews a couple of times when offered, because they were honest and said the pay band before the interview... Mooring Awl, and to the thrower of the Awl. 4 hours plus 2 hours plus 2 hours sleep.. Ben the surprised Collie had both swmbo and myself on moving patrol, it was capture a sample day. I'll be delivering that later. Blue welkin, light breeze, hint of frost at the most likely area. Weather wombles says high winds return tonight and through Saturday.. I was going on to a big orange shed , but instead I'm off to the MRC. We are re engineering the loo room, it's about 8 ft square so there's plenty of room.. we are going to add a dirty sink, next to the hand washing sink, for brush washing / liquids disposal and a rack for sheet materials.. Today is only clear the junk and measure up day, so I still might get to go to the orange shed later. Time to finish this muggacoffee Oh idiot TV environmentalist Steve something, this morning was saying the levels of pollution in some samples were so high the lab technicians wouldn't open the sample bottle test it.... Yeah? So how did they know they were so high?,
  23. Difficult when they closed the local school, there are many more school closures in the pipeline as the birth rate is dropping. The school across the road from me has closed*** the primary school in the next village has closed ( about 25 years ago. ) the nearest is 4 miles away.. (*** Ok that was in 1894)
