Yeah, I think it would be good to do a smaller project along side... then at least I won't feel the slow progress with Burton :s

I have a tonne of photos of wolvo steel terminal from 2000. If you need any I can scan & email to you.

Thanks for the chuckle at work Frank!

We've fitted a fair few for customers and found the Lenz chips work well. Sadly, it's basically a Scalextic motor so requires a better decoder.

The buildings look fine, and once painted they'll be great. The cargo wagon has inspired me, very nice!

The Skegness trains plied their trade through Burton on Trent with double-headed 20s working them.
Would these have been Regi Rail Mk1's?
Are you a member of the DEMU group? They have their annual exhibition (held in early June) in Burton on Trent and this might provide you with any pictorial evidence you might need (some of the members of the society might be local to the area).
I'm not currently a member, but have been in the past. They put on a great show at Burton On Trent!

Yes Pete, this is probably the way I will go. Also, I'm waiting to see how Wayne Kinney's fiNeTrax turns out before I commit as this is similar to EasyTrack but to N Standards too.
Thanks for the link, I'll take a peek later

That sounds like an interesting read on bogie mods.
I also use the scratching technique to remove the numbers but use a very small jewellers flat screwdriver to remove the most part. Followed by thinners and a cotton bud to clean and remove the last bits.
I personally have never got on with dry brushing on locos, I always seem to over do it, but on buildings it works very well for me.

Maybe might try after I've cracked renumbering/renaming, oh and building scenery!
Thanks for the comment Philip, glad you like it. My next blog entry will be about removing the factory applied loco numbers, using waterslide transfers to renumber, before the weathering of 37092 can commence.

I worked a short distance from the bridge on Baseboard 5 in th 90s. I recall a larger fan of sidings on the west side which seemed to be full of wagons due for scrapping. Sorry no photo to prove this, Andy Y has expressed an interest in Burton Station a while ago, he may have photos. There is a lively Railway Club in Burton who may be able to help. Are you local to Burton? If so I'm probably in Egg-sucking mode!
Thanks for this info. As far as I'm aware, the depot was used for wagon repair during the 90's, so lines of scraped wagons would fit in with the info I have. Most of those sidings have now been ripped up and/or are very overgrown. Photos of the depot in the early 90's are extremely scarce on the internet, so the Burton Railway Clubs would be a good idea I'm not that local to Burton On Trent these days but grew up in Lichfield, but still only an hours drive away. Thanks for the info!

...so phase 1 becomes a self contained layout in itself.
Yes Pete, also allows for me to have this part of the layout set up to play with as the layout as 36ft at home will never be able to be set up
Have you thought about slightly compressing the layout so you get the feel of the place with the added benefit of having a smaller build time?
Yes this has also been considered, but I decided against it after much debate with friends. Mainly because the original plan was to build a scale one mile stretch, have prototypical signalling sections, and in effect run it like the real railway.

In the most part, yes it will be a one person project. However, I have plenty of modelling friends who seem happy to volunteer which will be a great help

Hi Nigel, Yes I have considered 2mm finescale and in all honesty, I'm still undecided. :s

Well Jaymes, I am hoping to finish 'that' wagon and get its first coat of engineers yellow on. What is that diarama you're working on?
