  1. It won't, it is Saturday. We have the alternative car park set up for Saturday. See https://yorkshow.org.uk/car/ for full parking details. The correct SatNav setting for Saturday is the junction of Knavesmire Rd & Knavesmire Ave. If anyone uses what three words = https://w3w.co/films.brain.much A reminder for the less than fully mobile, but non-blue badge holders, arriving by car the Saturday walk to the show entrance is longer than that on Sunday & Monday.
  2. Quick update regarding on-line tickets and door entry. Pre-paid at discount through to Good Friday. Pre-paid through the show period still available but at door prices. On the door can be cash or card. Show Guides at the door. Step stool hire (Cash only) will be in the entrance foyer. This has to be cash as there is a returnable deposit.
  3. When I relinked found same issue. Apologies try https://www.railtech.com/infrastructure/2024/03/26/train-derailment-disrupts-traffic-in-norway/#?gdpr=accept
  4. Very large derailment in Norway. Good job it wasn't a passenger train. It's one thing when our models do it, horrendous on the real thing. https://www.railfreight.com/railfreight/2024/03/25/derailment-in-norway-blocks-rail-access-to-bergen-indefinitely (possibly blocked/pay wall) Alternative link - https://www.railtech.com/infrastructure/2024/03/26/train-derailment-disrupts-traffic-in-norway/#?gdpr=accept
  5. This may or may not be relevant but it reads a bit like something that happened years ago on a club layout. Could there be any random pathway for power through something like the ballast or point rodding? On that club layout one mystery section that would not isolate, eventually traced to current getting through the ballast. We never really solved why, possibly a stray strand of copper from wire, but it went away after the ballast was removed and the section redone. Possibly something in the glue that is conductive. It possibly only shows up with the DCC enabled as everything is on/live at the same time whereas normally the section with the fault is off so the path doesn't exist.
  6. Yes. The other change though is due to changes in IT. Modern enthusiasts, whether their interest is in steam or other railway areas don’t have to go to a club meeting to see a presentation on a topic. Back in the 1970s it was join a/the Society, go to the monthly meeting and you got that month’s topic. Today it has progressed so far you don’t need the physical events it is on YouTube within hours, or even live. Lots of other pressures on time, cost of living etc., amplifying that. In the SLS we are trying to adapt with use of zoom (and recordings to aid time shift) but the fact remains (picking a topic at random) if I want to see analysis of Swiss Railways it is probably on YouTube not wait eleven months and hope a speaker will cover it. The social side the key driver for physical attendance. Societies are in steep decline, perhaps except for line or scale specific one’s, as the information is available freely elsewhere. Model shows might be next, with the from a distance visitors dropping off first. We live in interesting times.
  7. Not sure if that is the one I bought tried based on recommendations but it wouldn’t work cold. The bottle is currently inaccessible and I didn’t note it in my posts after the trial. @CF MRC recommended a make when I was up at Missenden recently. Can only suggest buying in person from a gun-shop but checking the notes on the bottle first (I didn’t) no idea where you live but Sportarm in Dorchester is my nearest. They have been helpful, for example you can buy shot for short gun cartridges but not the cartridges to split yourself if you haven’t a gun licence.
  8. Unfortunately I found when editing the SLS Journal that only pre-1968 seems to matter remains prevalent. I did receive a handful of articles on non-steam and/or contemporary matters but they were no more than a 1/3rd of the submissions even being generous.
  9. I also thought they were either low priced (bad for the sellers) or a typo in how much they made. Mind you I haven’t seen much on how well or otherwise they were put together. Didn’t know about it in advance.
  10. A bit back the thread carried posts about kit built locos never being run. Just read of a recent auction in Scarborough with circa 300 examples. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-york-north-yorkshire-68645753
  11. Just received confirmation that for Saturday visitors bus Service 21 will run as normal and is a travel option. Website updated. The 197 to/from the station is running all three days. Note time of last bus to the show is 3pm, last bus back to the station is just after the show closes. The rail and travel page is here.
  12. Interesting foresight given the subsequent developments in 2024!
  13. Personally, even though the noise is unrealistic, the fact you actually hear it go over and the propellant force ensures it goes over makes the traditional PECO and solenoid option the one I will continue to use whilst it remains available.
  14. Fair point regarding your view but personally I prefer the wobbly rear trucks (despite them being wrong) having been brought up with them. My brain expects that.
  15. I understand for commercial income reasons the Swanage DMU option as a regular has been dropped. Extremely informative post, thank you.
  16. I guess that is this one. - https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/304988694066
  17. It had a mill alongside the gates if I recall correctly. I may be conflating two spots as at least one of them had sidings. You could often see the steam rising from there where the A614 up from Nottingham met the Gt North Rd. We certainly did use things like station car parks for picnic stops. We lived near Winchester at the time and two regulars going north for breakfast stops were either Wantage or Steventon depending on Dad's choice of route. Both good spots for fast running WR trains. Wantage at that time still had the loco plinthed on the platform. Blisworth was the usual mid-point stop, not that good for numbers but plenty of trains passing over the viaduct. I remember too that the line just south of there through Towcester was used to store mineral wagons.
  18. Luckily as I don't have the necessary pay-TV subscription the Wales v Finland soccer game is free to air on S4C tonight. I can live with no sound/no commentary. Thanks @gr.king for the reminder about S4C covering Welsh sport.
  19. In the days before the A1(M) when Bawtry was still on the main route north and the Great North Rd a stop for the toilets there and then a quick drive under the railway bridge for a sandwiches break in the lay-by. A good spot to watch the trains traverse the viaduct with the PW slack (due to subsidence) was a regular. All a long time ago now but this layout is a nice reminder of those past times. Very occasionally if time permitted we went down to the level crossing and sidings a bit further south (Screwby?). Thanks for triggering these memories. .
  20. Thanks, he isn't a supplier I was aware of. Now noted for any future needs.
  21. Many of the above suggest IPA in an ultrasonic bath works. Can anyone recommend a sonic bath that doesn't cost the earth but is big enough for a loco or coach in 00? My next stripping project isn't that big (3 badly painted Dublo Dinky buses) but the stuff I last used to strip an EFE bus was slow and not that effective. Oh for the past days of useable off-the shelf Nitromores for stripping anything metal not the modern domestic sale watered down stuff.
  22. Additional trader added to the Traders page - ModelSigns Their first visit to the York Show,
  23. Do any experts know and if so can you help Scottiedog please.. I've only printed tickets once and had no problem. They should be scannable by our door stewards from a mobile phone when you arrive.
  24. Finally got around to doing a bit on this project, why the delay, just lots of other things getting in the way. In the end for the missing windscreen glazing I have used a strip cut from Co-op Turkey slices packaging. Several unsuccessful goes at doing two half sections using the curves moulded into various types of clear packaging so in the end I found it just bends and stays bent. Central chrome strip, a bit of cooking foil. It can go to one side now to let the glue thoroughly dry. Hopefully, what was the last of my Bostik white glue will dry clear as I remember it doing. The screen is wrap around, as per the prototype, but is flat not the slightly bulbous shape of the original. I am guessing (a) most viewers won't know so won't notice and (b) if they do it is local accident damage repair. [Looks better out of the photo] Not in these photos, also some work done on painting the interior sub assemblies. Logic says The front windscreen needed to be in before doing much more on the inside and putting it back together as if the glazing doesn't stick etc., it will be harder to redo with the bus reassembled. One strategic decison to make - will it have a crew and passengers to be on the open road or left as an empty one for a depot parked up spot?
  25. One at Ventnor's Underciffe in the news today. Too expensive to repair, https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-hampshire-68597533 The gist seems to be there were funds available from the national highways pot but not enough to actually fix it. One sniffs an air of political jiggery pokery, namely announce a substantial (but not big enough) wodge of cash just before an election. The hope being it won't be taken up but might sway the electorate your way. Just suspicious, it might not have happened that way obviously but how many times have the same projects been announced but no bulldozers ever hit the ground. Cynic, me!!
