  1. Swansea Valley Junction is listed as MR and GWR joint, position is between Landore and Llansamlet. The LWER is listed as reaching SVJ on GW and Midland lines. So presumably there were running rights involved.
  2. Swansea Vale Spelter sidings is listed in the RCH handbook as being reached from either Swansea Vally Junction or Six Pit Junction.
  3. The full name of these sidings was 'Swansea Vale Spelter Co sidings' and they were joint MR, GWR and LNWR but on a Midland line.
  4. You are right all the wagons in the photo have grease axleboxes. It would be useful if we could read the branding.

  6. The bolt heads on the side planking suggest that this is actually a hopper wagon.
  7. Wasn't always true. The six counties of Northern Ireland are a province of Great Britain largely because various right wing luminaries decided that ships for the Royal Navy couldn't possibly be built in, what was soon to be, a foreign country.
  8. STL files carry no dimension information, so dimensional mismatches between software instances are common. I suggest you change the dimensions in SketchUp to millimetres and this should correct the problem.
  9. The problem is that while wages in China have been rising steadily over the last few years, median incomes in the UK have been falling. I will let others work out exactly the blame for this lies, but will just say that people vote for government they deserve.

  12. There's a 14xx fitted with one of these motors on this page. From what I've seen of it it is perfectly controllable and the really nice thing about it is that it load allows. i.e. it will accelerate faster when light engine than when it has a load.

  14. If you want to use batteries, 3.7v motors may be a better bet. 5v motors tend to be used for computer peripherals.
  15. I'm not sure they Bulleid's either. The name on the patent (No 526,518) are Thomas Beaumont, and Joseph Fenwick Bridge both of Atlas Works Sheffield i.e. Firth Brown.
  16. I think the backing plates were an afterthought and the hinges were not updated. I would probably cut the hinges above the middle hinge and for the top hinges just use a short length of wire. The backing plate should be flush to the inside of the louvres. There would have been no light visible coming through the van looking from the outside. I think I added the backing plates after seeing Jonathan's photos.
  17. Maybe, but the tug is more likely to be there to stop the stern drifting as it goes through the narrow channels.
  18. There is a half etched strip along the bottom of the upper side which the lower side fits into. I would suggest you solder the backing plates for the upper sides before soldering the lower side on. You can use wooden sprung cloths pegs to hold the parts in alignment while soldering them.
  19. Why would HMRC be involved? You presumably paid VAT when you bought them, so they would count as private sales of second hand goods. And presumably the carrier would be USPS rather than Royal Mail.
  20. The gears on portescap gear boxes are notorious for being noisy.
