  1. If "Robin" is driving 21, can we assume Batman is in charge of 64?
  2. At a similar stage with 57xx, but used the kit laminated rods, ABC gearbox with Maxon and sprung all axles. Only issue seems to be clearance at rear of Slaters wheels, easily adjusted
  3. Chris, whatever happened to the RR Stephenson that was flying along towards completion at one stage?
  4. Just received the JLTRT kit myself. What a pleasure to behold and instant gratification from folding up just a few parts. Instructions very clear too. I won't be posting on subject as PAD recently did one and now you are flying through your build. Hard to believe it is 13 years old.
  5. Looking so good. Have never built a top shelf kit like this. Pedantic, but I think you have safety valves 90 degrees out.
  6. The option is there with the Warren Shepgard kit as both sizes of splashers and various other options are providedI am 95% through 7412 which has its own thread
  7. The problem with Warren's injector is that it is too tall to fit between tank underside and footplate, see my 7412 thread. His castings are very good but I think you will find there isn't enough room. You need to shorten the inlet pipe. You pic demonstrates the difference in height.
  8. Superb David. Always enjoy your upgrades and your engineering approach is fascinating.
  9. I have found that using a lot of cheap hairspray cures the winswept look as you can comb in different directions between bursts of aerosol. You can also add flock to represent flowers at the same time.
  10. The jury is evenly divided I think. It amused me to learn MOK state hardest part is shaping bunker and cab roof. Agree with that in relation to Shephard. Very tricky. The price difference is chewed up quite a bit by adding Slaters hornblocks and a set of Griffin cab castings to Warren's kit. Similar things have been said about Scorpio's offerings which definitely benefit from Warren's superior castings (refer PAD & Jazz in reference to 61xx & 97xx) this year. Happily this is not stressful rescue territory, bashing a 40yo Gateneal into shape for example, more careful upgrading. Much to be said for a genuinely complete and consistent kit though.
  11. I'm aware the 48/58xx preceded the 14xx numbering and that they are one and the same. My point was that the 54/64/74xx had a similar size boiler albeit with longer firebox and the 48xx & 54xx were just two years apart in introduction hence ashpan would be almost identical except in length. There's a case for saying the 54xx was the six coupled version of the 48xx as they share many similarities. Provision of ashpan a reason for buying MOK as opposed to Warren Shephard. Both do 48/54/64/74xx kits but one hundred notes separate them. I still have to build the ashpan though.
  12. Very useful post as I need to make an ashpan for my Shephard 74xx given the kit doesn't have one http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/95593-warren-shephard-7412/page-4. I have no doubts the general outline is the same as the 48xx
  13. Looking great. I could not find any info on positioning the cover plates on the smokeox lower sides so did my best from photos. Think mine might be too far apart looking at yours. I found my internal cab splashers were a fairly ordinary fit. As regards the safety valve cover, the DA casting was good but I also found no way of positioning the valves. Blue tack to rescue. Warren Shephard's option is superior as he has the internal base in brass with the two pillars positively locating into it. The cover literally does that and sits over the top in prototypical fashion. I used it on my Dean Goods to replace the fictional Zero Zephyr whitemetal effort.
  14. I had exact same issue with my Duke smokebox front being bent forward when boiler was slipped forced between firebox and smokebox. Most of the problem for me at any rate was the cab front being too far forward between its sides.
  15. Is the 1366 dock tank corroding to Barry condition naturally?
  16. I found aligning the smokebox, barrel and fb the most challenging part of build particularly as fb does not sit on footplate on Duke. The strip around fb where it meets cab is also fun with it attendant cladding band Looking good though!
  17. I am facing the same problem being in the finishing straight with a David Andrews 7mm Duke. It is seen on N15class's Pete's workbench thread. Luckily DA provides a sketch showing the two options for the Duke. Cannot imagine the City would be any different. Lovely model by the way. 05012016104214.pdf
  18. The worst thing about Games Workshop paint are the juvenile names, not to mention the over the top enthusiasm of the shop assistants in their own stores. I did have to correct a SNAFU with tender as I had fillted the wrong tender floor support rendering the height too great for the fall plate. The sort of annoying task that gives little satisfaction unpicking work and then having to clean up and repaint. I had fitted the Dukedog part which suits the higher footplate of the deep framed Bulldog underpinnings.
  19. I have to confess I have no idea as this pic demonstrates instant gratification not the solution to a modelling problem! Have not acquired a stronger spring for the bogie pivot pin yet. I can say I'm most impressed with Citadel chaos black in ratle can though. Never used it before and wished I had.
  20. Thanks Michael. I might carve some plastikard to suit. Avoiding the motion problem for now, I have cracked on with the cosmetics.
  21. I have Slaters sprung hornblocks on the 2 driven axles not the designed compensation. It rolls along nicely. The spring provided for the bogie pivot is far too short and does not do anything at all so will have to be replaced. One unconnected thing I have noticed is that the firebox lower edge does not seem to match many pics. Most 1930's shots show a wider section at the bottom as seen here on Cornubia where the angled braces are, not an inset.between the splashers. This loco does appera to have the cover plates that I have already fitted. Any clues Dean experts?
