  1. Morning, Blue sky and cold, tennis (indoor) this morning then "playing trains" this afternoon, curry for tea. The day is looking a good one I think!
  2. Afternoon, late today but never mind, just wondering if my local hostelry will be knocking 1p of my pint from Sunday or keeping it for themselves
  3. 3 inch concrete posts are okay for fences under 6 foot, 6 foot and above 4 inch, that is the recommendation of my mate who runs a firm locally making concrete fencing posts. He does produce 3 inch but tells me in reality he makes/sells few as 4 inch is the standard. I know this as I replaced some fencing last year, on another note really pleased managed to clean the patio and flags today, dry and sun was a bonus though its just started raining!
  4. Morning, nice blue sky and frosty, just put the bins out (recycling week) plan to sort the garage out today and a trip to the tip beckons.
  5. Morning, seems to be some problems but I got on at first attempt, nice pictures for December Ash but not March surely!
  6. Afternoon, a much better day today than yesterday (rugby ) oh well just outplayed as they say. Managed a game of tennis outdoors at the club this morning, a bit cold but okay then I come home to read about snow down south amazing! a nice roast beef lunch ( Florida might have the sun but it aint got "Sunday Lunch") which I enjoyed immensely. Hope now to be posting some pictures after downloading infranview following the clear and precise instructions posted by beast last August. A big thank you! My sister in law and her husband ( Cypriot) live in Cyprus and they are not happy soles at the moment, can you imagine if that happened here? Enjoy whats left of the weekend. Alan
  7. Afternoon, it has been a busy morning, drove over to Lytham StAnnes to pick my new tennis racquet up which I had taken in for stringing, then on to the model shop on the way home for some paints and brushes. Resisted the thought of buying a new loco knowing that when I did get home I had some credit card bills to settle from my recent USA trip. Never mind! all sorted now and I owe nothing Once had someone use my works credit card in Canada, (wasn't to bothered as it was works account not mine) he/she/they purchased fishing equipment to the tune of 168 Canadian dollars about £100, I had been in Boston 6 weeks before and they reckoned it was cloned or whatever there. What they didn't know the credit limit on the card was £250,000 ( I used to pay for a lot of travel/meetings etc and indeed once had to hire a helicopter) they could have bought half the shop! It was very quickly sorted. Nice to hear of good and quick customer service Gruffalo, not so common in this day and age!
  8. Morning All, well wet and grey this morning but as its the first wet and grey I have seen for 25 days I am okay with it as long as it does not turn out to be a recurrent experience. Yes its Friday and a good weekend of sport beckons, inspected the lawns yesterday and decided no I will not mow them just yet, on the shopping list today is moss killer though. First job will be to rake the lawn to get rid of the debris ie twigs etc then mow and then feed at which point I will require rain within 2 days so a bit of planning is needed! But not just yet! I remember my Dad having an awl just like that 40+ years ago, have a great day everyone.
  9. Afternoon all, tried to get on this morning which I did eventually then posted but it seemed to get stuck and didn't appear which I had to leave as I was due somewhere. Rain forecast for tomorrow but its gone a bit grey so wouldn't surprise me if it happened today. VHS videos, yep have a couple of the Cam Camwell collection here in my study, maybe the talk about vhs vids is a prompt to watch them again! Just set up a new monitor for the pc, Rmweb seems to display fully across the monitor yet other sites dont. Will have to ask my eldest why next time I speak to him as I havnt a clue lol! Take care all.
  10. Totally Agree! Sorry to hear your news Dom Up and about, shopping beckons this morning and then a couple of hours in the shed running trains. Take care all.
  11. Evening, arrived back home this afternoon, trip in respect of customs / security was fine etc. However flying up the eastern seaboard we endured 3 hours of very bumpy weather particularly by NewYork and Boston and I mean bumpy! The wine glass on the table was hung onto with a firm grip! Anyway cream crackerd as they say, normal service resumed sometime tommorrow
  12. And where is our next holiday scheduled in about 5 weeks? Yep the Isle of Wight or "white" !!
  13. Morning/Afternoon from the sunny west coast of Florida, really looking forward to our return to the UK and freezing temps tommorrow! Not really! Ready for home after 3 modelling free weeks, the £ is slipping further and further against the dollar so maybe a good time to return! Flight from Miami tonight, into T5 Heathrow mid morning Tues then flight up to Manchester and then short drive home. Looking forward to playing trains!
  14. Evening/Morning/Afternoon all, just caught up with the thread and note the weather! Hmm a few days ago some were saying spring is here lol! Cannot believe that March temps are down on the average. I'm going to blame those who cut the grass........to soon!!!!! Going to be a shock when I return next week, at 8 am when I played tennis this morning it was 68f,someone commented that Pete provided a better weather forecast than the BBC. I think that's a fair comment just add 48 hours!! Nice colour car! What's the motor trade description of the colour because it won't simply be blue I'm sure! Enjoy Sunday all and I could just eat a Sunday lunch,
  15. Same experience Tony, barman in the hotel thought I was pulling his leg re UK fuel prices. Had planned to bring the push bike back into service on my return, think I will do that now to visit the post office etc rather than drive given your info on diesel prices!
  16. Morning/Afternoon all, up early today as I have a tennis lesson at 8am here in the sunshine state. Just caught up with 4 pages and in the main all seems to be well for everyone which is good. I am reading the various weather reports with some interest as we will be returning next week. Just wish I could bring the weather back with me and the USA petrol price!
  17. Morning/evening all, have caught up with the posts and some nice pics posted. Cold here in west Florida if your a native that is, 68f is not a bad temp in my view, a view not shared by some of our friends here though. Will return to 80+ during the week apparently . On the last leg of our visit and will soon be back in the uk and time for some modelling, lots to do and yes that will include grass cutting! Have a good day everyone.
  18. A glimpse of what I have to look forward to on my return to the UK! Not sure if there is any grass on the back lawn just moss! At least I have a brand new mower to play with bought at end of October and still boxed up.
  19. Hi, had a first today for me in all my trips to Florida, our beach was subject to what they call Red Tide. In short it's an algae karenia brevis which deprives the water of oxygen thus you get dead fish left on the beach along with a strange smell. The air makes you cough and can irritate the eyes. My wife and I felt like we had been smoking since birth! it was so bad we left the beach as breathing was not easy. Thankfully it's an occasional thing and should be back to normal tommorow.
  20. This is correct hence the ice baths that sportsmen and women have ,my youngest endured these after playing county rugby. Rather him than me I can remember thinking especially on a cold winters day, then it was eat pasta by the bucketful afterwards. What always amused me was the eating of Jaffa cakes (by the carton it seemed) recommended by the coaches per and post training. Quiet day here in Florida spent reading and having the occasional tipple.
  21. Morning well it is here in Florida, doom and gloom here with the locals as the weather forecast for the weekend has a high of 67f which for them is cold. I'm more than happy lol! Had a go sea fishing yesterday, was very enjoyable but then the sea was like a millpond caught a couple of small ones as they say and enjoyed a beer. I hope your aches and pains get better Debs, after all we are overdue a spot the dogs picture! Take care and enjoy what's left of the day.
  22. Morning, 24c forecast here, it's the 90th birthday of the flying Scotsman so the NRM tell me via twitter. Must look at that later off for a walk before breakfast, have a good day all take care and maybe both hands on the wheel on occasions!
  23. Morning/Afternoon etc etc, went to play golf American style! By that I mean hit the ball and drive in a buggy to where it landed for the next shot no walking lol! Given that I approach the hole in a zig zag pattern rather than hitting the ball straight a buggy saves a lot of leg work! Well that's my annual game over, see its not pleasant weather at home (uk) which makes the sun here more appreciated. Take care all
  24. Morning/Afternoon etc dependent on where you are! Sunny and pleasant at 25c today. Just back from long beach walk and now plan on shower and easy chair in the sun reading. Watched the Midwest snow scene on tv this morning amazing pictures. All is well here in the sunshine state, take care whatever you are doing.
  25. Hi, customs etc negotiated with ease and quickness at Miami yesterday, very pleasant weather at 79f today here on the west coast of florida. Nice to have breakfast outside in the sun this morning. Enjoy whatever is left of your day
