  1. There are also the type of crowdfunding platforms where money is collected by an administrator and placed into a kind of escrow as they say in the USA, and should the project fail to deliver then monies are returned.

Two points - the developer cannot access the funds to develop the product, and the administrator charges a hefty fee (might be 10%) to the developer should the project succeed.

Small wonder then that so many developers use a direct type funding approach.

All in all a great shame and difficult circumstances for all concerned.

Who knows what might have happened if the original plan to link up with the "Southwold Railway" had come to fruition? The Southwold was a going concern, with an upgrade to standard gauge and a link to the GER at Halesworth station, a usable cross county line with junctions to the GER (LNER) at each end.

Southwold might have been a mighty container port like Felixstowe! (I doubt it)

The "Debenham" branch was about 150 yards (?) short of the plan when the "Bankers" pulled the plug. It seems the banks have always had the "Profit today" attitude, even in 1908!

    Regards

    David.

Hornby would have produced a faithful copy of an Adnams beer tank wagon, and the Town Council would be chuntering about the red lights on the container cranes.......

  3. Please note that until very recent years (maybe 2016 / 17?) it was quite common practice to allow a dormant company to be 'struck off' in order to extinguish it as a legal entity, simply by failing to return annual accounts.

It therefore does not follow that a company having been 'struck off' was involved in any financial or other problems or wrong-doing.

I see that a reprint of 'Never Again' is being undertaken, if anyone missed it first time around. Also , a new colour album entitled 'West Riding Steam' (compiled by Derek Huntriss and featuring the work of the late Gerry Dixon) is now available from Never Again Publishing.

My copy of West Riding Steam arrived yesterday.

Gerry Dixon's superb, often 'from a high distance' shots are an absolute  joy, putting the railway firmly in context within the 'urban industrial' landscape.

Even in close-ups the railway seems just a natural part of the everyday scene.  His work is complemented nicely by that of Derek Huntriss and a few others.

Highly - no, very highly - recommended.

Not sure drinking outside in this pub would have been to safe. Its the entrance to White Swan yard in Great Yarmouth. I believe it was an interchange between the M&GNR and the GER. The pub still stands but the house has gone.

  6. Can a Moderator please move this to the Vegan section?  Thank you.  Its making me feel hungry.

P.S. Does anyone do a 7mm GIGANTOR HOG Spit-Roasting conversion kit for the Warwell?

You know the type - two shaft supports on each raised platform, the spit shaft and a long fire grate for the deck......
