  1. If you sort out the BALLAST properly that would be impossible to distinguish from the real thing, you have so many elements in place now. I did notice on one of the recent videos your wagons were jumping so I am assuming you are still not happy with the track yet. You could still pop the ballast back down loosely tho.......The last time seriously improved the believability.
  2. And I don't know it theres a precedent for it but on the join in the front theres a gap on the track, you could cut out an odd sleeper or two and push it under the gap to fill it. And if you take a picture with the camera angled lower at the same point (think of the view a train driver would have), I think this area would be exceptionally believable, because you have load of the detailing and colouring to a really high standard. Lovely work as usual. Whilst I'm here I'd like to wish you and yours a HAPPY NEW YEAR for tomorrow and the days that follow
  3. sorry for the late reply the two arches to the left. Everything else looks really good, and other people might well disagree anyway.
  4. Some fantastic reminders of what you have been up to. And as usual I see references to the real Goathland and surrounding area. The bridge with the pub and its conservatory is a clear reference to the Birch Inn. And I like the subtle Potter references. Wishing you both a very HAPPY NEW YEAR....with the time difference and your busy social life I'll put it in now LOL. Don't forget the picture for the lass on tieback of the scooter.
  5. My first car was an old Hillman Imp, I have a rather soft spot for it....and no it is NOT a gravel pit ;p. It was dark green which is why I repainted the lilac one on the layout. Lilac!!!!! But four men could comfortable pick it up.....i fact they did once when it was pinned in whilst parked, nice lads as nobody...not just...a woman driver...could have got out of THAT tight a space.
  6. only 25 views to one hundred and eighty!!!!!!!!
  7. I had a lovely looking restored red spitfire all chromed up, it got back ended and was put in for a check over, and the mechanic was laughing so hard he could barely speak...to say the back was broken the 'thing' that was meant to lift it (like what is in my layout garage) was going up but all 4 wheels was saying on the ground....needless to say it was a financial write off. I ended up with a cheap Ford Cortina...what a come down!!!!
  8. the first picture was modern day Xmas ;p I'll go back and add the words ooooooops... I thought you'd work it out....crystal ball and all.......hehe
  9. modern day Louth images of lincolnshire.co.uk disused stsations org tapping family org
  10. you should put THAT on the how realistic is your modelling!!!!
  11. Winter...........bbrrrrrrrrrrr 3859 3852 3581 Tis the season to be jolly...........fancy dress optional......... 3847
  12. this area benefits from half the fluorescents lights on , and giving nice bit of shadow, although the back shops are a bout to be removed to make way for the station. 3859
  13. the overall layout is really come long strongly, have you considered just adding some mucky water to the brown plasticy wall ....as it now attracts the wrong type of attention, as it is one of the few thing that you have not improved. I think even a hint of grimy water on it will improve its photographic capabilities. Love the model, your greenery i really adding life to the whole area.
  14. I am having a problem seeing some of the pictures on this page, I'll relax in case its me.
  15. but it does give more atmosphere 3854 3853 3852
  16. I find I get some good photos when the layout is quite dark 3856 had it been the 70s and the 3 day week I could have got away with murder....ie no lighting...LOL
  17. May 2013.....thought you might like these Kal took them on his way to work 3861flyingscot1 3860flyingscot2
  18. Even my recent work can show differences..... early work on this area under electric light ......no attempt to get shadows in place...as it is still clearly a model 3665 once the pavement was done......I wanted to see how it was going to look so.......the same taken once the light offered some shadows.... IMO light can have a serious effect on believability 3696 Now here I got more shadows, and despite many of the buildings still just sat on, and the snow not yet hiding the fact, the more pronounced shadows help with the believability aspect IMHO. 3760 some natural shadow...but not taken late on..so no deep shadows.....but more detailing is in place....and again IMO the detail looks better when shadowed, because your mind fills in some detail... 3795 this view with no shadow by the building looks less believable to me.... 3801 here there is not actually much more shadow, BUT the 'snow' hides all the sit on layout disasters, it also helps make the water that has not settled flat to look more like slush, each baby step helping to pull it together 3804 here the snow helps pull it together, but the lack of shadows are to my mind missing 3826
  19. Specific colour is so difficult, if you paint under electric light or natural light take your reference from a book, a screen all depends on how they are set up and everyone sees colour slightly different and human sees more shades of green than any other colour, it being a survival thing about knowing what is safe to eat!!!!! I certainly have painted stuff at night and 'in the day light' have thought to myself....how did i think THAT looked good. The thing about colour is its relationship to what is around it. Sometimes photographing an object in a different coloured back ground can make it look better or worse!!!! So sometimes following a particular path, i.e. a single brand of colours means their inter relationship is better IF the original person who made them had a 'good' eye for colour, and if you own EYES agrees!!!!! I think if YOU do a good paint job, and the colour is in the right area, you should feel chuffed, and if someone states that they think the colour is off, it is a personal opinion, and opinion can be a moot point, and some people will say good and others disagree. The whole issues of a moot point is that it is not definitive but objective, and unfortunately colour is objective, AND in some cases we don't have enough historical evidence to be 100% . I still have not found the really good site that compares the different brands of paint....should i stumble over it later I will add it and PM you, or better still pop it on your thread....if i remember by then.......
  20. theres a lot of dirt to the roof on the right, and theres a lot of dirt on the signal box as we saw, once you have the roof line to your satisfaction.....you'll have to match the green on the single box...... make sure you know what colour you used. I have a bad habit of forgetting...DOH.....then have to recolour to make stuff not look out of place, the same plant is likely to spread nearby and receive the same weather conditions so be almost a match. BUT it does give great reference material..
  21. IF you have a specific colour in mind, it is possible one of our readers might know of a good match....although LNER green does seem to be the item we need most at the moment. PERHAPS showing some of the A4s next to each other might help?
  22. I have plenty of rolling stock that will need painting at some time, so looking at the problem now will help me in the future, what comes around goes a round.....so they say
