  1. Thank you Sir, I'll have to check but I think I may have a cam brown dont know why I have not tried that. I am not that keen on mixing paint, never really get enough or make it as consistent.
  2. Thanks Mikkel. I am very happy with the stock box it works very nicely although it would be nice to even more wagons in. The beige colour I am very happy with although usable the brown could possibly be changed for another if you have any suggestions? The two project parts have arrived with the exception of the plates from Narrow Planet but they have a huge work load so wont be available for a little while. Even so they are one of the last things to go on so will not delay anything. I do need to complete those cattle wagons first though! Hopefully this weekend.
  3. So here's a little space for me to show off my recycling/repurposing. Now holding all types of wagon so certainly works as previously hoped; The lid does shut and with the foam in the lid everything is gently help with slipping or rolling.
  4. OK this is the last on e this one, promise but the paint has now had time to fully dry and I also mixed the two new paints (Hull Red and Mahogany) 1:1 this is bottom right and small piece in the middle. I am happy with the results and especially as I seem now to always have either or both brown and black washes over the base GWR brown. I will of course try on a spare wagon or something in the future. Finished the final private open wagon I have and I am more than really pleased with the end result, it does look 100% better in real life and not through a lens. Wheels and couplings are ready to add after a quick spray of Dullcote, when I do the rest of the preprinted wagons. I hope you agree the end results, especially this wagon have been worth a couple of hours here and there for the last couple of weeks but now I need to get those cattle wagons finished. I have been researching those running numbers that were heavily displaying lime wash and those that weren't. Oddly the W1 numbers I have are mainly clean and the W5 are the ones with lime wash.
  5. Update along with a parking fine I have another colour. Whilst searching for Testers Dullcote I found a shop a little closer, certainly quicker/easier to get to and they stocked both. Still not a match but I think with a black wash this should 'brush up' close. It is Vallejo Air Mahogany 71.036. The bottom of the three colours, again to the naked eye it is closer and deeper although reddish.
  6. Colour samples; Railmatch on the left of each and Vallejo on the right. Figured I would use the already primed tank bottoms as they will not be seen anyway; The colour match for the cream is very perfect, to the naked eye much closer. The brown is not so close but after ink wash would probably be closer, there is another colour that I was debating which is Vallejo Mahogany (I think) but way to far and time etc to pop out to try a bottle! Also have to have in mind that the Railmatch paints is much thicker than Vallejo Air so a couple of coats would also make a decent depth.
  7. Thanks @MrWolf I have a highly and very technically rubbing tool, . It was given to me by a colleague, not sure if it was a joke, from a brush set for nail art but works a treat. Just a blunt ended metal end on paint brush. For the wagon livery it required cutting as close to the lettering as possible as it all goes in one piece. Light touches when positioning, as too heavy/tight pressure and the transfer will locate itself to where ever you are pressing and fix with masking tape before starting the rubbing process. Then slowly and methodically from one side of the transfer to the other. Fingers crossed all is well but as long as you have a good process and some luck it usually works out just the initial positioning is key.
  8. Dry rub transfers applied and very happy with the results. Will seal them tomorrow as I have had to touch up a little with white paint. They are tricky to get exact and then taped for rubbing but the result is worth the extra care required. Whippets are ready and primed! Very strange looking machines. Here's a side angle without the outer tracks as I need to paint the inner slope as this was the dirt/mud drop for the tracks as they moved over and around. The shoots are on the out tracks which would really hamper painting/detailing if already fixed. Extra weight added inside to help add extra weight to the rectanks, once built.
  9. Whilst making an order for the name/number plates for the to new projects at Narrow Planet noticed they have some War Dept Devon Port wagon transfers. Ideal for a gunpowder wagon that I built a while ago, still waiting for transfer livery and I have a couple of the open wagon kits that I was going to find some more Powsides transfers for but this opportunity has risen so well worth a quick build. Just finishing off the first of the rectank loads, two whippet tanks from WW1. Nice little kits to build from Emhar not overly taxing but very enjoyable, research numbers and colours now. Oh and of course get that red wagon finished!
  10. Having spent a couple of very informative hours in my local model shop (2 hour round trip!) I think I have a good colour match for GWR cream and brown. Both new colours are from the Vallejo Air range and are Hull Red 71.039 (brown) and Beige 71.074 (cream). Bottle test are very close will have to do swatch tests soon to confirm but very hopefully for these. Sadly could not find a green to match GWR loco green from Railmatch so will have to continue using this. Picked up some other needs for the future pieces and also the Bachmann 8750 Pannier in Wartime Black, lovely. this will becomes good friends with the warflats.
  11. No, stealth is still somewhere with the postal services as well as a few bits up in the roof storage along with the complete 'other' project. I shall run to the two together but only one will have commentary. My back to back is from Markits and yes definitely worth it's wait in brass.
  12. I have snaffled a little item on that ebaying thing for a stealth project! I think I will build another long planned project alongside it for company. Anyway the foam cradles appear to be working well; New best friend also in shot 10/0 paint brush for those inner irons. They do look better in the picture but after coal dust etc will rub up fine I am sure. if not just add a load. Taken ages to get the wagon sides ready for the rub on transfers to compliment the pre-printed ones. Nice contrast though between the red and black; Transfers will be added when brave enough. I will show the results as Powsides have loads of these listed on their site and could prove a great source for some people, I think I have got all the ones that relate to Chippenham.
  13. I recently purchased some liquid gravity and used glue n glaze to fix. Had the exact same colouration. Inspiring Mikkel. Very much tempted to make up one of my kits for a red version, love it.
  14. Lovely looking wagon, what a monster compared to the 4 plank wagon.
  15. Not very much happening of any consequence. Got the open wagons completed with the couplings, oops started another one, this time I have to apply the dry-rub transfers to the sides and ends. Should be sport at least. Oh and snaffled some (I think) picture frame protection and used my Dad's old camera case to create a stock box and protection for those kit built wagons; Should be able to use any spares in another box or crate. They also seem to make nice cradles for painting/building. Should be OK for locos as well.
  16. Your baseboard journey sounds as stop go, dismantle, rebuild, move location come back as mine. You have a lovely space now for your layout. Thank you for the track over joints, pointers. Looking forward to future developments.
  17. Chris I have found the tunnel entrance but it does appear to be moulded plastic as well more like @Bill37. I'll send pictures anyway. Sorry.
  18. Have been applying finishing touches to the pre-printed wagons. Having to mix a colour match to the red/orange wagons had me worried but think I have got away with it. I've started on the loco coal wagons as well. Unfortunately the transfers I ordered are for 20t wagons not the 10t. A shameful error on my behalf now I have to get some 20 tonners as well. nice little group and the cattle wagons are ready once I have the numbers and appropriate transfers; Research has been very slow for actual wagons numbers for W1 and W5 as well as the N13 loco coal wagons. Whilst my other WW1 project has completely hit a wall as I can not find any evidence of military running numbers for the rectank wagons. I have a number from GWR whilst being on loan. May be this is all and that is why I can not find any. I have a a few more cattle wagons of other diagrams and managed to find nearly the right amount of actual wagon documentation to accommodate these once built. Alas the hedge was cut today so no modelling.
  19. Chris, I have a single tunnel mouth with retaining side walls. It is a plastic one piece and not sure of the manufacturer but I dig it out and take a picture. If you like/want it let me know. It is going to be years before I get onto tunneling! May be tomorrow for the pic as it is in the loft with the majority of the layout things.
  20. For what it is worth, personally I would go for the stone effect especially as it should compliment all your current layout buildings and features. Is there anything in the Wills range?
  21. Chris I always enjoy seeing pictures of your layout and did not realise you have been published, congratulations. Nice that you will let Sarah and family push your buttons Please can you tell me about how your removable section works regarding rail breaks across an angle. I have had to redesign my layout boards from permanent to potentially semi-moveable meaning I would have a large amount of track over board breaks including a lot of mainline curves. Any thoughts from your experiences please? I have serious concerns about it with mainline trains derailing at speed etc, hence further delays in progressing my layout. Thank you for any pointers/help. Happy for a PM if too much to put in your thread.
