Perhaps the initial batch referred to is a small amount air-freighted to England, with the rest following by ship. I seem to recall that Bachmann has does this many times before big shows to give retailers some stock to sell and I do not remember anybody complaining so vocally about that strategy then.
  2. I see that the BBC has a new 2 minute video of the work done at Dawlish. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-26257117 Edwin C.
  3. You would think that NR would have the decency to put all those floodlights back on for us to see the train more clearly. Edwin C.
  4. With all this excitement about to peak with the first sighting of a train, perhaps RMWeb should organise a special Dawlish Gala at a heritage railway. There could be rides in the converted dumper truck passenger cage; a special drive-by of road-railers for photographers and naturally, the big red spidery thing would have to be there to be admired by all. Perhaps my imagination is getting carried away! Edwin C.

  6. It just does not look right without the big red spidery thing! I wonder where it is now? Seriously, we should all be grateful to the Orange Army for their hard work and to those who took the trouble to explain the finer details of the work being undertaken. I found it much more interesting with CK and Others' explanations, it would be nice to think that such good and open dialogue will continue in the future on other big projects. Network Rail could certainly use this example of positive communication and encourage it elsewhere on the network. I trust the residents of Dawlish Warren take the trouble to thank the Orange Army for such a professional repair job when it is all finished and tidied up.
  7. Perhaps one of the containers should be presented to the National Railway Museum? Edwin C.
  8. Further to Post #803 about the chap at Ashtead Station, I too cannot remember his name. Also, more recently, about a year ago we had a meeting of Ashtead Residents Association at which some senior bods from Southern came to talk about the plans for the new station building. Having waffled on for a bit, they asked for views. Somebody then got up and pointed out that Colin, out ticket Office man, was in the audience and perhaps he would like to say something. At that point everyone spontaneously broke into applause for him as he is well known to all the commuters. The look on the faces of the Southern managers was priceless as they suddenly seemed to lose all their self importance. I got the impression later that Colin had come to the meeting as being the only way of finding out what was really happening to his station! Edwin C
  9. Oh dear. Looks like Freightliner has given them ideas about liveries!
