  1. I if I recall correctly, when the models arrived at Accurascale there were some not (quite?) sold out, but all were then marked as sold out while they got everything shipped out and worked out what they had left.
  2. If it was the norm for these models, it would certainly have become clear in this thread by now.
  3. I suspect that if anyone on here has had to return theirs and wished to share the news with the forum, they would have done so already.
  4. The instructions for removing the body say that after replacing the body you have to glue them back on to it.
  5. Isn't a coupling failure how the class 59 "Megatrain" trial finished?
  6. I hope they don't take the Deltic back instead by mistake...
  7. I feel as if I've been reading a different forum. Maybe I've missed some posts or have a selective memory but I don't see a thread full of people finding something to unnecessarily complain about. Accurascale have set very high expectations. So far it seems they have very much lived up to them. But it's not unreasonable for people to comment about minor failings. Small parts shouldn't come off and it's not unreasonable to mention it when they have - especially when people are asking where they go so they can stick them back on again. Likewise in my view it's quite reasonable to speculate as to whether this model might have gone too far in the quest for accurate detail. Unless I've missed it nobody has said they'll demand their money back and never touch an Accurscale model again because theirs arrived with a minor paint blemish/chain missing/slightly wonky part.
  8. Of course it does depend how representative this forum is of their overall market.
  9. That's not what I've taken away from this thread. Accurascale have set very high expectations and where in some cases they haven't quite come up to them I thought people here were generally being supportive not unkind.
  10. I disagree. If the detail made them unsuitable for 2nd radius curves then Accurascale could have just said so - and I'm sure that they would. But they say the models are suitable for 2nd radius curves and I can't imagine them saying that without having tested them. It is entirely reasonable to expect them to run on 2nd radius track because that's what the specifications say. If the models object to certain configurations (e.g. curves on inclines) then that's a more grey area in my view.
  11. I can try. I've been holding off because the colours in a photo aren't going to be a good match to reality and will show up differently on different screens. But I suppose a comparison photo might be somewhat meaningful.
  12. I think if someone says it doesn't matter at all because all of the above then they are going too far. But I'd say they are good reasons for not trying to get too worked up about getting the precise shade correct. That's a very good point. While in terms of what's hitting the eye, colour is just physics, what ones brain actually interprets the colour as is something much, much more complex. But - I still defy anyone with any familiarity with BR Blue to look at the offending coach and not see it as just wrong. It's very easy not to realise just how much brighter light is outdoors (which is why a partial solar eclipse isn't a terribly impressive event). It's quite noticable that despite the impressive sensitivity they have these days, as it starts getting dark a digital camera will complain about lack of light before it has noticably started getting dark.
  13. To maybe bring this back a little on topic... Now that the building they were in has been demolished, Antics in Cardiff is now in the Wyndham Arcade, somewhere between the previous location and the one before that. Still handy for the railway station. It's not huge, but it has a fair selection of rolling stock and a pretty good selection of tools and modelling supplies and if they have something in the warehouse or one of the other shops they can get it there free of charge if you ask in the shop or order on the web site. They have a varying small selection of railway books at discount prices. I've found the staff to be friendly and knowledgeable and it's worth popping in if you're in the area. (And the second hand model shop above the Cardiff Antique Centre in the Royal Arcade is still there and again worth a visit - you never know what they will have in).
  14. I've just realised that I never got round to posting anything at the time... Before Christmas I had a model arrive from Derails that was (slightly) damaged in transit. I can't praise them enough as they dealt with the return, and - eventual - replacement. I say eventual because it took them a few goes to get a replacement from the manufacturer that didn't turn up with them already damaged. Throughout they kept me fully informed, and I couldn't have asked for more - I have great confidence that if I have a problem with anything I order from them they will do what they can to sort it out. Add to that their comprehensive policy to ensure they do all they can to fulfil pre-orders (despite the obstacles thrown in their way by a certain manufacturer) and free postage for anything above £20 then I can't recommend them enough. Companies with their attitude towards customers are, sadly, quite rare in my experience.
  15. That's how it looks. However...while I've seen rather different shades on Hornby models and their current Mk 1 coaches seem to have a rather deep shade of blue, to me they all look like reasonable candiates for Rail Blue. But there is no way that I can convince myself that the Research Livery coach looks anything like rail blue at all. They clearly can do better. I wonder why they didn't? Because the above points are true and it is very hard to be definitive about what colour things were actually painted?
  16. I wouldn't know if they had their green right unless it was pink or something, but I've got a fair idea what shades BR blue come in...and this doesn't look like any of them. It does seem a bit odd though given that they could presumably have just specified the same blue as on the blue/grey stock, and it would seem unlikely that these coaches are made in a different factory to the regular blue/grey ones.
  17. True, but this looks far to different to be accounted for by that - and it still looks very different (and wrong) even if I put it next to a regular blue/grey coach and cover up the grey and red bands.
  18. Apologies if this has already been covered - I can't find anything but may not have used the right search terms. Does anyone know what shade of blue was used in the research livery based on the blue/grey intercity livery but with red instead of grey? I have always assumed it was the regular BR Blue (monastral blue?) but judging by the recent models I've seen, Hornby doesn't agree. I know their interpretation of BR blue at least on recent Mk 1's is somewhat deeper than Bachmann use, but the regular blue still looks somewhat turqoise to me wherease the livery on the research coach just looks blue.
  19. I was thinking of something like this: "Indirect colour 3D printing applies the colour from an external source during the printing process (e.g in Multi Jet Fusion 3D printing). This technology is much more precise and allows for a more realistic appearance of the 3D prints. It is important for you to remember that indirect colour 3D printing uses CMYK colour mode and you need to take that into consideration when preparing your model."
  20. It seems to me quite useful when manufacturers announce a product early enough that they can get feedback on any errors that might have crept in. And if something is planned to appear in over a year's time that's when it's likely to appear - it won't actually come any faster if we're not told about it until later and personally I don't feel I would benefit from being kept in the dark.
  21. The Accurascale web site says: "Utilising the latest in full-colour 3D scanning and printing technology" which to me implies they are printed in colour. (Which I had no idea was a thing, but it seems that there are now various methods of 3-d printing directly in colour).
  22. It will probably come back as an app. Everyone gets to choose what temperature they want then the heating/AC is set to some kind of average that suits nobody.
  23. I thought it was a response to someone from Accurascale saying that they'd had people contacting them to ask where their Deltic was.
