  1. Steve; You Are Back! good to see the loco mojo has kicked back in. I shall be watching with interest. Mick
  2. Those coaches look really good Kirley, just keep those projects coming! Whats next?
  3. Such attention to detail and atmosphere, excellent.
  4. Kevin, my disadvantage is I have never seen said models! despite invitations over the years. All I know is there's lots of Hornby "00" two and three rail, condition? they have been used! probably a lot! So yes, as Mike says probably several markets and some just ebay fodder. I have suggested a certain auction house near Newbury but its not really my call.
  5. Kevin, its about 70yrs of model railway collecting. Mick
  6. Thank you all for the tips and guidance. Also for getting back to me so quickly. Regards Mick
  7. I have been asked to suggest a dealer/auction house by an old friend to dispose of his collection/model railway; I have no experience in this field! Has anyone out there any pointers? like use this one or avoid like the plauge? Thank you in advance. Mick

    Scams

Do not fall for a scam from Safe2Motor, sign up and they send you vouchers, costs £1.99 for the vouchers! 14 day cool off period then they take £59.99. And they already have an A/C to debit you from via a catalouge retailer called easylife. And they take the 1.99 instantly, maybe while you are talking to them. Google Safe2Motor and read all the unhappy comments, there is a flurry of activity, pressure selling about now. Mick
  9. It must be near 20yrs since I did the Wolsztyn experience. i went with some guys from the FR and Jenny Waters who was our FR female driver. Had a super time. Jenny got the pacific up into the 70's mph on one trip to Poznan, I was firing. I can quite see why they only built two of that type. Not a very impressive loco. Tram driving in Poznan was good fun and we hired the complete train on the narrow gauge that went to Zanimesil, I think! Would love to do it again.
  10. I know the loco would not have got very far if it had! Good enginemanship I thought with smoke appearing when firing. I have never been that slowly with a passenger but I have never fired on the Devon banks! And; I'll bet the crew were glad it was not raining!
  11. Short cutoff 15% would be quite normal at speed, conditions allowing.
  12. If you look at photos of GW/WR locos at work they nearly always ran with steam around the front of the cylinders, this was from the pressure relief valves as Western engines were normally driven with the lever pulled well up and the regulator open as wide as necessary. Observations from experience.
  13. Kieran, that is going to be a nice looking coach and you have a number to build? with no instructions! no fear there mate! Seriously, have you photographs? there must be some in the books on the County Down. I have just browsed Desmond Coakhams books Belfast& County Down and Irish Broad Gage Carriages and I also think Pete is right about parts B&C but if A is door stoppers there must be twenty. All the pictures seem to show a stopper on the door and one on the carriage beading. But the beading is straight so, do you have to cut out that tiny little tit of brass??? If you do there must be a better way. Think I'll sleep on it! Regards Mick
  14. It is the SSM kit, I 'm very pleased with it. Just got to add balance weights and red buffer planks and a light weathering. Posed next to my nearly finished Bredin, one of three to finish. Sorry to hijack your thread Pete, there is also stuff on the IRM site under Micks Bandon Tank also Bantry town, our club layout.
  15. Kens tweaking of the signals is excellent and really worthy of an explanation please?
  16. I also used the Poppys jig on my Bandon 4-6-0 tank. The jig worked well for me as the chassis moved off under its own power first time! I was staggered, wonder if I can do it again!. Agree with you on the parts, wish I had thought of the card idea but I ticked the instructions as each stage was completed. Is compensation worth it? But the loco is looking good and thanks for posting your learning curve.
  17. Brilliant stuff my friend that is an awesome looking loco! Do not listen to a word I say in future 'cos I seem to have made you a whole lot of work!
  18. Was E3082 a one off? I have never seen any coach with that style of window.
  19. Hello Paul, that plan looks very good its amazing how modelling the Emerald Isle has really taken off. I shall be watching with interest and trying too get Bantry wired up for running at Sleaford and build some cassettes for the fiddle yard and ,and ,and!!!! Mick 84C
  20. Evening Tony, Sorry I have not replied before but have been away for a week, on a barge on the Leeds & Liverpool canal,no internet!. The kit is by Studio Scale Models owned by Des Sullivan and has several kits for Irish prototypes
  21. Tony, this is what your tutelage inspired and all the wise words on this group. Its my first etched kit all my own work and it runs far,far better than I expected. Just a few details to finish.
  22. 9793, Focalplane has about summed it up. Having done dry stone walling but further west on the FR we used a timber gauge about 18" wide at the top and about 2' at the base with string lines to keep the paralell lines. Strength comes from packing the middle with small stones and dust. The top uprights are called "cock combs" as in poultry! How many times in my life have I driven past there, even in falling snow! and thought soon be in Porthmadog maybe even the Ship Inn !
  23. My Grandfather worked in the weighbridge at Whinney Hill for a short time after he retired as a teacher. As small boy of about 10yrs old I was let loose in the place! Just be careful what health and safety? this was In the mid 1950's. I do remember going for a ride on the Whinney Hill shunting engine , was it something like an L&Y pug? I also remember the continuous tramway from the quarry to the crushing plant. This was a continuous chain that picked up in a slot in a bracket on each end of the tubs. But the whole place was fascinating. They even produced hand made interlocking bricks in the "Terracota" Hope this is of help.
  24. 92220, my memories of rebuilt Crostis, they were awful! If you had steam then you didn't have water, if you had water then no steam! I'm also fairly certain that its got 10 drivers so it must be a 9f! I did far too many trips on 92028 and it was a dog, should have been cut up when the pre heater was removed or properly rebuilt.
  25. Hello Pete, I have followed several of your threads, I did like your L class from a Wills kit, so I am sure you will have no problems with your High Level kit. I am also building my first etched kit and started with an SSM Cork Bandon & South Coast 4-6-0t when I opened the packages I thought" hmm ambitious" but ok so far! If you can get into the thought process of the kit designer that helps a lot and I struggled at first! Please keep posting. Mick
