    So, I build a kit where the sprues are grey, and then prime the kit, in sprue grey, and then paint it in sprue grey. I must be missing something here.

      I've built two red arrows hawks that came in red plastic, then primed them with grey before painting them red.

      You can get brass boiler bands, running boards, steering chains, buckets. All manner of things

      Ooh. You can get many shiny brass bits and other such embellishments. My SW1 has a brass dome on the safety valve, a brass cap on the flywheel, and a towbar added
