Continuing my RailRover, on 13th August 1965 I took this photo of Modified Hall 7915 Mere Hall at an unknown location. There should be enough detail on the photo to get a positive idenification. The loco was shedded at Tyseley at the time and was withrawn 8 weeks after the photo was taken.

Can anyone identify the location? The photo was taken after I took photos at Banbury shed. The other photos on the film roll after this shot were at Wolverhampton Low Level station

Thanks to all that pointed out the location as Bridgend West. Looking at streetview, one can see the top of the building on the right. I presume the signal box nameplate is 'Bridgend West Signal Box'. 6691 was withdrawn from Llanelli in June and was enroute to Birds scrapyard a few miles away.

I have photos of the individual coaches

The Preston to Carlisle section of the West Coast Main line was electrified on the 25kV overhead system; it was energised on 25 March 1974. A full electrically operated train service started on 6 May 1974.

On 7 May HM the Queen travelled the route and 'drove' the train from Preston to Lancaster. After this adventure 87018 took the Queen on to Carlisle, with Her Majesty travelling in the locomotive cab.

Technically not the royal train, but here is 87018 approaching then entering Carlisle Station

While on a RailRover on 12th August 1965 I took a photo of Brush Type 4 (class 47) D1663  'Sir Daniel Gooch' at an unknown station. The local was later numbered 47078 then 47628 under TOPS

Can anyone identify the station? The photo was taken after I took a photo of a coach in a bay platform at Neath Station (location identified by The Stationmaster). So can this also be Neath station? Only a goods yard and part of some buildings can help recognition. The other photos on the film roll before these two were taken at Cardiff East Dock shed and next fewr taken after werw from the train passing Hayes Scrap Yard Bridgend, although I was jumping all about South Wales on that day

I took this photo of an unidentified class 47 on a pullman train passing through Trowbridge, heading for Westbury. The last photos on the film roll were taken at Crewe Basford Hall Open Day on 27 August 1995 so it must have been taken some time before that date. Can any class 47 experts identify the loco and possible the date? I have looked on Six Bells Junction without success.

I'm glad to see the viaduct is still there; when I was at Uni in Carlisle, that was one of my regular walks when I needed to get a bit of head-space, or just to relax.  Out from Stanwix along the country lanes, over that viaduct, then back with a pause to photograph some WCML moves on the River Eden bridges near the power-station site, then back via the park.  It was considered an unofficial footpath at the time (no fences, and loads of fallen parapet stones so a bit dodgy up there), and there was plenty of talk about the future of the viaduct.  The path to be closed, or (this was very left-field) reopening as a railway if the Waverley Route was ever revived... the one that came closest was having a road-deck built on it (or outright demolition and replacement) as part of the Bypass scheme which was being mooted at the time.  It's nice to see it's still there and accessible!

Canal shed was located at the south end of the viaduct at the top of the steps. Latest news on the viaduct:

Our Mission: "to re-open the viaduct as a footpath and eventually a cycle path"

It's the same Dandy car. Was on Carlisle station for years at the end of platform 5/6 bays

As a Carlisle lad born and bred, nearly all London-Glasgow and Glasgow-London express trains only changed locos at Carlisle. Before they were withdrawn Coronations from Camden, Carlisle and Polmadie were used
