  1. I noticed the tender was different to the grey Hornby version. According to BR Database, Silver Fox had a non-corridor tender for 2 weeks in 1939. But otherwise it had the same corridor tender throughout its life. R3095 has got the bow end corridor tender. But it would probably need the tender letters changing and the chrome strip removing from both loco and tender. Are there any other possible donors?
  2. I would also like to see Hornby do a limited run of Silver Fox in garter blue with the chrome cladding bands. A bit like this O guage version; http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/201027480931 But hopefully a bit cheaper! I've not seen anything conclusive that the chrome cladding bands survived after the garter blue reprint. But it looks pretty good.
  3. I thought there would have been the demand for it. A lot of people on here seem to want one. But your, right it's not ideal in the current climate.
  4. I've got five of them at the moment. 1 grey (Quciksilver), 2 garter blue (Mallard and CofA), 1 experimental blue (Merlin) and 1 BR express blue (Sparrowhawk). In the future I'd like to get my hands on a wartime black, an apple green and a garter blue without valances (post war version like mickliners in reply 52).
  5. Just curious. Some people hate them, but a lot of people love them.
  6. I hope this happens soon. There are two or three liveries which I'd like to buy. LMS crimson, LMS/BR black and BR express blue.Turbomotive would also be nice. There are some black R2426 Princess Elizabeth's in BR black available on Ebay. Been tempted to take a punt.
  7. Never noticed the different boilers before. But looking at photos of R2313 Princess Louise and R2225 Princess Arthur Of Connaught, there is a clear difference between the two. Anybody know how this came about? Not sure what the issue is with the valance on the tender.
  8. I'm also a fan of the Royal Scot class. Other than the name and number, are their many subtle differences between each of the models. The only things I have ever noticed is a speedo on most models, which doesn't appear on R2628 Black Watch (early crest) and the bell which is unique to the LMS version.
  9. My only gripe with the LNER B17 is that the shade of green is a possibly a little dark. I say possibly because other than what I've seen at NRM, I've never seen an apple green LNER loco. But my perception is that apple green is a slightly lighter shade, like the Hornby Great Northern A1. Otherwise I agree it is a beautiful model. I'm a bit of a pacific fan. But when I saw Sandringham in my local model shop, it really grabbed my attention.

    R3020 - Fowler 4P

I've had a look at the Stanier 4P and the Fowler 4P on the Hattons website. You can see from the photos that the Stanier is more detailed. I also had a look at R2730, which is an LMS 4MT. Isn't 4MT just the BR classification of the Stanier 4P? So I'm assuming it is the same model as the Stanier 4P? It appears to be as detailed as the Stanier 4P model.

    R3020 - Fowler 4P

Thanks for all the replies. I'll have a good look at one when they are released.
  13. I've been browsing some of the forthcoming releases from Hornby and was curious about the LMS Fowler 4P (R3020). There is a BR version of this, R2287, so I assume it is the same tooling. I just wondered how good a model it is in terms of detail. How does it compare to the LNER L1, e.g. R3189 or R3190.

I've got CoN, Dominion of Canada and Book Law on pre-order. Still not sure if I'm going to bother with DoC (already got a few A4's) and there isn't even a release date for Book Law. So now I've got a bit more time to pay for CoN, I might have a look for something else. It would not surprise me if CoN slips back again....

I rang Hornby this morning and they said there was still no firm delivery date. Hattons probably just put on or after 1st Jan when Hornby put delivery back to 2014.
  16. Thanks again Robbie. The link to the LMS forum makes very interesting reading. I also like seeing your photos in these threads. They look great. Might have to get my locos weathered one day.
  17. Thanks to both of you for the replies. Looks like I'll be renaming the loco the Duchess Of Montrose. Just a couple of more questions though. 1. Footplate Lining It has been pointed out that the footplate lining on the Duchess Of Sutherland model, incorrectly follows the curve of the cab, as shown here; http://www.ehattons.com/images/products/R3014X_30294_Qty1_1.jpg On the 2010 prototype, the footplate lining stopped short of the cab, as shown here; http://www.ussalbion.co.uk/duchess300910b.jpg Obviously an error on Hornby's part. But have you ever seen any 1940's photo's of the black livery, where the footplate lining did follow the curve of the cab? I'm just wondering if there was a logical explanation for the error. 2. Nameplate Colour You will notice the nameplate on the Hornby model has silver letters on a black background. While the 2010 prototype has gold/brass lettering on a red background. Have Hornby made another error? Regards, Mike.
  18. Good morning. Last night I posted the following question in the Hornby Products & Trade Area; Are there any LMS Duchess experts on this forum? I've got two Duchess Of Sutherland, one in Crimson Lake and one in LMS Black. The black one is R3014, which is a model of the Duchess Of Sutherland in preservation about two or thee years ago. It even has the overhead cable warning flashes. I'd like to get it renamed as a different Duchess (as opposed to City of) and the flashes removed, so that it represents a 1940's loco, rather than a preserved loco. The Duchess Of Sutherland was built as a conventional Duchess (I.e. not streamlined), with a blended footplate. So that limits my choice to; Duchess of Buccleuch Duchess of Atholl Duchess of Montrose Duchess of Abercorn But it all depends on the tender. I've seen photos and models of the Duchess of Buccleuch and the tender is clearly different to the Duchess of Sutherland. Can anyone give me some advice about the four locos listed above? I.e. did any of them have the same tender as the Duchess of Sutherland and did they happen to wear LMS black livery? Apologies if I've posted in the wrong forum. But I could not see anything more suitable. The original topic can be found here; http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/80058-duchess-experts/ From the replies I've received so far, Buccleuch, Atholl and Montrose all received the same LMS lined black livery as Sutherland. But it still isn't clear which of them had the same tender type as Sutherland. Brocp believes Montrose is the only one with the same tender as Sutherland. But it would be useful if someone could confirm this. Thanks in advance, Mike.

Did anyone else notice the schoolboy error in the article; "The release, which will hit shelves in early 2013" Having read some of the comments on this forum recently, I'm also seriously thinking of buying loco's in liveries which I don't particulalrly want. I'm even thinking of getting Royal Lancer, despite the fact it has got the wrong tender and it is now about £60 more than what it was when Rails were flogging them off.
