  1. Hi All, Regarding the laminations of 10 thou., I've been using, with success, 'Di-Limonene' solvent as advocated by Barry Norman and Geoff Kent in various issues of MRJ. It doesn't have the initial grab of other solvents but gives you more time to work layers into the correct position before leaving to harden. My little projects are coming along nicely, and will post some pics when I've had the camera out! Gaz.
  2. Hi All, I trust you all had a good New Year and hope you have managed to shrug off the excesses! Mike - I can understand the mindset behind trying to replicate the w-irons/ axlebox assemblies with the cutter, but do we really need to when there are already products extant in a more suitable material? I think the cutters strength is taking over the repetitive/ fiddly tasks we would generally tackle with a sheet of thin plasticard and a scalpel. This is in no way intended to be critical but I'm not sure I would be keen on relying on plastic in this critical area. Outstanding work tho! (My first coach trial is an LNER Tourist twin Third, which i'll be happy for you to run your expert eye over once I progress it further today!! HEHE!). Jason - The detail you have achieved on the gate is absolutely amazing, and I'm impressed you've taken the thickness down to .25 is very interesting and opens up new possibilities. With regard to straightening, is there a way you can layer it, maybe round the edge where you might find a heavier metal section on the real thing, to assist in straightening? I had to do this with a lattice girder bridge, and it seemed to help greatly. Gaz.
  3. Hi All, A couple of quick shots to show my first attempts with the Cameo cutter. I've made a few mistakes along the way, but I feel I'm now getting to grips with it. Thanks to JCL for his tutorails and inspiration. hopefully the pics will be uploaded - it's my first attempt... Gaz.
  4. Jason, Thanks for your reply. I am exporting in mm, and also have SS set to mm. SilhoutteStudio seems to randomly size when I open the .DXF. It's not a great problem as I have CorelDraw installed on my laptop, but SS on my desktop so it is handy for using with the cameo cutter. Simple solution has been to install SS on the laptop, and ensure the size is correct in SS before transferring to the desktop for cutting. I was asking in case I had missed something simple but it seems to be an anomaly. I'll post some of my efforts once I have assembled them, and thanks once again for your inspiration!! Gaz.
  5. Hi All, I'm a bit of a lurker on this site, but JCL's excellent thread has drawn me out. This thread has revolutionized my modelling and it's thanks to the contributions of everyone on here that it is the success it is. I'm having moderate success with my machine, although I've had to alter the thickness setting to 35 to get it to cut through 10thou styrene. My first attempt had to be laboriously eased out, which wasn't easy as the lattice thickness was just half a mm. Talk about running before I can walk!! I was already using using CorelDraw for other aspects of modelling, Building design etc, and now I'm getting to the point of my post - has Anybody had problems with scaling when exporting a .DXF file from CorelDraw and importing it to SilhouetteStudio for cutting? Most of the time I have to re-size it in SS, which is a bit of a pain. Am I overlooking something REALLY simple? Gaz.
