  1. It's good old cod liver oil for me, and anything else that they think up. Codeine and Naproxen have virtually stopped me taking painkillers. I'd rather have the pain from the arthritis.

I was contemplating taking up offline spoon whittling (no not really) when PlusNet offered me £7.50 a month off my 80Mb/20Mb unlimited in exchange for a new 18 month contract. They lost an arm there ..

And so out into a grey, damp and rather restful morning. Have a good one all.

  2. Morning from the valley of tears the Sheaf. As I told yesterday in almost comprehensible phone English, I bumped unexpectedly into my daughter, her husband and my twin granddaughters yesterday. She lives halfway towards our friend Mr Duck and rarely comes into Sheffield. I hadn't actually seen them for 2 years, receiving updates via sons and in-laws.

My Grandson has been down in Swansea at university for the last few years and has got a 2-1. Now he has informed his parents that he's not coming back home, preferring to stay there.

He grew up there while his Dad was at uni, before coming back to Sheffield when he was about 10, so understandable. My daughter is now planning to move back down there herself when she has finished her current degree course here, to do yet another one, so she will be off within the next 18 months. Edumication is a wonderful thing. I think that after her next bout of learning she will become a teacher, she has been an assistant for a couple of years.

They kindly allowed me to treat them all to lunch at the 'spoons before disappearing into the wild blue yonder  (well of to Swansea) and I probably won't see them again for quite a while, though I have a feeling that she will be in town in February to let us all help her celebrate her 40th ...

And the shopping I was going to do was pretty much forgotten, but I had a much nicer day than I expected. Mrs off to Butterfly Farm today with grandkids, so a quiet rest day for me again.

  3. Afternoon all. Ventured into town to sort some stuff a the bank for Mum. Got off the bus and bumped into my daughter, so no in law and twin granddaughters. Some what taken aback as they were supposed to be in Swansea for my grandson' s 21st tomorrow. Now weathering spoons I may be some time.

  4. I got my guitar back yesterday afternoon., a sound thrashing thorough test ensued. All is in order. Then this morning I read this

Came across this today - for all you guitar-heads who want to play like Mark Knopfler, here is the isolated guitar track with no other instruments, from "Sultans of Swing".   It can only be described as genius

:shout:    Anybody want to buy a guitar?

A belated happy birthday to Mr Knopfler.

    Have a good day all.

  5. Andrew - watch the Naproxen as it knackered my stomach after I'd been on it "long term" and left me needing antacid tablets possibly for life.

What a tale of woe and incomeptence, which is, unfortunately, endemic in our day to day society nowadays.

I'll be back later with my normal daily update after chauffeur duties for 30747 and niece - and I think I might get a haircut if I can and my hairdresser can fir me in.

I second the warning about Naproxen. I was put on it two years ago. I noticed after three days that my stomach was a bit odd so I stopped taking it and went back to the quack. He said "Oh yeah, this sometimes happens. We'll have to find something else.". I'm still having to take stuff to keep my knackered stomach under control.

  6. A new nut and refret then?  Nor cheap, and a job I'd only entrust to a good luthier - or do it myself, which I did with my vintage Hofner, though it took a lot longer than til Saturday to get the job done properly.

Yeah, I trust him. I've known him over 30 years and seen lots of his work. It's not such a big job when you have all the right tools and 40 years experience. Last time I did one myself was about 20 years ago, it took me a couple of days to get finished. I'd rather pay somebody to do it these days, I don't want the arthritis in my hands going postal on me again.

  7. Morning all from the valley of the Sheaf. Mrs HB off to Skegvegas for the day with the grandkids so I get a please to myself. I have an appointment at 10am with the guitar doctor, so will be heading off shortly in order to spend lots of folding beer vouchers on about three and a half feet of nickel silver wire and a small piece of bone. One day I'll find a hobby that doesn't cost a coupe of hundred quid every time I even think about it. I should have it back by Saturday.

From there I think I may invest some more folding beer vouchers on ... beer, before wending my way back home and catching up on a few 'while I'm out can you just's before 'erself arrives back. I have a feeling brownie points earned may come in useful later in the week.

    Have a good day all.

Oh and nice hat Dudders :)

  8. Good morning from the quiet and sedate village of the damned valley of the Sheaf.

Apparently there was some kind of 'sporting' confrontation taking place yesterday in the far distant end of town known as 'Illsbruh'. No 1 son and his workmates made the local papers website and received some rather unpleasant messages, advice and even threats after this picture was released on @rZbook.

Nothing controversial there then son, (he must get the knack for being a pain and winding people up from his mother). Apparently the 'Tavern across the pool' were doing a charity thing for the Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity and The Big Boss (and everybody here knows you don't argue with The Big Boss) thought this would be a good idea for some reason,  Laddo is in the NTL shirt.

Apparently some team called Sheffeld Weekday won the dancy about like a fairy and fally down competition and Pancho Villa went home disappointed and took his ball with him. From what I've been told.

Drizzly morning here, followed by short bursts of sunshine and gloom. Things to do, people to annoy see. Have a good day all.
