  1. Nice looking project , an exchange sidings makes for an interesting layout , we have built a simular layout based on the sidings of BSC Bromford tube in 4 mm  ( virtually the same trackwork layout as you have  done )

Traffic is ingots in and tube loads outwards with a Sentinel 0-4-0 for tripping to the off stage works . Look forward to seeing updates.FB_IMG_1711463570290.jpg.37d5c3d7891f85b27fa402dcf1222da0.jpg

The drop-off in demand across the cycling industry is being attributed to a boom in bicycle sales during the COVID-19 lockdown. There have also been a lot of supply problems due to overseas manufacturing, with companies preferring to supply the EU market rather than Post-Brexit Britain.

Many industry players have been left with too much stock and a reducing overall demand on top of increasing costs making their problems intolerable.

The company I work for has had a simular problem , during covid and lockdown people were buying anything and everything online , maybe down to boredom , we were selling suitcases and luggage even when you couldn't go on holiday ! We've gone from a thriving company with 12 people in the warehouse to one person picking , packing  and stock control , now we're closing  in a week's time , brexit  certainty didn't help us , about 30 % of our business was European , most items  sent  abroad would not arrive , but came back in bulk unshipped . Increasing import costs , business rates , ect  were the final nail in the coffin for us .

Although I've never used Hattons , a sad loss to the modelling community , hoping all staff involved can find other employment .

  3.  I think the first  batch  of  re numbering as  in 33.87.4667.000 - 029  which were for UK domestic traffic only featured the yellow circle on them being in pool 0887 , along with some from the other  batches numbered 33.87.4746.000 - 029 which were a!so in pool 0887 so giving a total of 60 wagons ,  all  the other wagons were in pool 0928 ( 31 . 87 4667 xxx. ) and pool 0930 ( 31.87.4647 xxx ) hope this helps , I'll try and sort out a list soon . As for any other markings , I have no idea !

  4. Link to Flickr photo of the Staplehurst derailment , only one vehicle involved , not sure if it was scrapped . The only wagon from the batch 31.87.4667 .000 - 099 I never saw for sight was 31.87.4667.077 so this maybe wagon involved in this derailment . The missing numbers in my list posted earlier are 31.87.4667.000 , 010 , 014 , 016 , 019 , 020 , 021 , 023 , 026 , 027 , 032 , 033 , 041 , 045 , 050 , 052 , 057 , 064 , 067 , 070 , 073 , 075 , 076 , 080 , 081 , 085 , 088 , 092 , 093 , 095  I assume these  became the first batch to be re numbered to 33 . 87 .4667 . 000 - 029 for what I think we're used for domestic UK traffic at the time .

  5. We will be a attending the Barry show as shown in the  above post with our BSC Bromford Bridge layout next Saturday , although not yet fully finished , it will be operated as an exchange sidings for various steel wagons at the show ( layout is more scenic now than shown in photos ) The layout will be fully finished ready for the Railex Taunton show in October

  6. With the great news from Revolution Trains releasing the French IHA covered coil wagons ,  here is a list of the numbering of these wagons . I think the last two batches had the top part  of the wagon ends painted white when they first appeared . These wagons also worked to BSC Ebbw Vale and were regularly seen on the ADJ to Wembley service through Newport most days of the week .

From what i can remember of the IHA coil wagons they were numbers thus  :
    Design code  IHE 796
    31.87.4667.000 - 099  ( later renumbered 33.87.4667.000 - 099 )
    Design code IHE 857
    31.87.4767.000 - 047 ( later renumbered 33.87.4767.000 - 047 ) I think these have now all been scrapped at SIMS Newport
    Design code IHE ???
    31.87.4904.000 - 060 ?  ( the highest one i ever saw was 31.87.4904.060 !  )

Some of the batch were re numbered again to 33.87.4915 .xxx series

  7. You could try spray cans of gloss varnish from Poundland , they are £2.50 per can , I've bought some of the matt varnish , which I've only tested it out on a  piece of plastic sheet I sprayed gloss  chrome , it toned down the gloss finish just fine  , so no doubt the gloss varnish should be the same , maybe  worth a try , as above test out on something else before committing it  to your model .

  8. A plan and photo of what i want to achieve in building this layout , we started way back in 2015 , mark 1 version was too large and had a second siding so was scraped , so here we are years later and mark 2 . Track is code 75 bullhead , which looks a lot better and suits the layout . Although only a single line siding ,  this location has featured a vast amount of various wagons over the years , so will try and replicate a fair few of these .

Wagons used from late 1980's to early 2000' s

    BAA with wooden cradles

    BAA with longitudinal cradles

    BAA with traverse cradles

    BBA with wooden cradles

BSA with traverse cradles ( Ex BAA ) of which there were 24 converted

BSA with traverse cradles ( ex BBA ) of which there were 31 converted ( also carried slab )

BBA with six traverse cradles of which there were 33 converted ( also carried slab )

PXA RLS 92551 - RLS 92562 bogie flats with longitudinal cradles

BNX B 9495xx series with hoods removed @ 16 in use

BVW B 9490xx series with hoods removed @ 32 in use

SPA with wooden cradles ( 40 in the pool )

    BVA 952001 - 952031 also carried slab

     Locos used

Tinsley class 08  I have few to be modelled ,  these will include   08509 / 510 / 528 / 605 / 678 / 683 / 879 /880 , these locos can cover the different eras and wagons used , also have a few class 60's that can be used on the BSA ex BAA , BSA ex BBA and BVA wagons that i think shunted a portion into the sidings with the rest being laid over at Tinsley yard for the class 08 to trip .

  9. We have made a start after many failed attempts over the last few years on our Tinsley coil unloading sidings layout based on the real location at the end of  Tinsley yard . The layout consists of a single line just over 7 ft plus a working overhead crane unloading  imported coil from Grimsby dock using various air braked wagons around the late 1980's to mid 2000's  . Over the last few days all track fixed on place , ballasting done , basic groundwork of rough ground and concrete areas now in place , next will be the road bridge , coil building and lastly the time consuming project of building the crane , then it will be onto the stock .

    Few photos of the progress.received_642451194381849.jpeg.b60394a55907289c7e0058b2755f1fe5.jpegreceived_1395669101273001.jpeg.5c3944a615ebf55f64594b6563758dd3.jpegreceived_6204205383034038.jpeg.7485f66993748e4ffed9ec5516f728ce.jpeg

  10. There was Kings Cross goods with sand traffic from Fen Drayton using pairs of class 31 and de hooded TRL PBA wagon  ( IIRC these would be re coded to PHA ) possibly using HTV wagons until the PBA took over in the 1980's , a few wagons were unloaded at Alexandra Palace sand sidings also   . There was also a Tunnel  cement terminal there with traffic from Tring and possibly a Ketton cement terminal there as well.

A search on Flickr for Fen Drayton sand , Kings Cross Cement etc ... should yield some results.
