  1. For those interested in the forthcoming Cavalex cradle fitted BBA wagon here is some information on them ( Although these were not coded BWA as far as i'm aware , BWA was for the same wagons converted in 1995 with five ex BZA cradles )

BBA wagon pool 4225 Various to various stainless slab / coil .

    Total 33

    910003 , 006 , 112 , 170 , 179 , 216 , 223 , 234 , 235 , 258 , 264 , 269 , 275 , 292 , 307 , 413 , 420 , 421 , 422 , 423 , 424 , 425 , 426 , 427 , 440 , 441 , 447 , 450 , 461 , 465 , 469 , 484 , 489 .

These 33 wagons were fitted with 6 traverse cradles for carrying stainless slab cast from Tinsley Park steelworks to the East coast ports like Grimsby for an onward sea journey to Germany for rolling , only to be brought back on the same wagons now as coil to Tinsley and Panteg , slab also ran from Tinsley to Lackenby and Port Talbot to be rolled into coil , but as these plants dealt with normal steel , the process of rolling stainless was not best suited to these two plants , hence a switch to European plants . These wagons ran with BDA , BMA with slab and SPA , BAA , BDW  etc with imported coil either as semi finished coil to Tinsley and Panteg or as wrapped finished steel to the likes of Wolverhampton , Brierley Hill etc..

Liveries of these were black with railfreight logo and red cradles or original bauxite brown with brown cradles ,

Alex/Cav, slight oddity with the packaging. For some reason the plastic which "seats" the right bogey is a different depth to the left side. It's slightly shallower and forces the bogey upwards, to sit at a bit of an awkward angle. It's minor but should be easy to fix.

    Lovely model though!!!!!!

Given how similar they are to the BBA, could you please produce these 13x BWA which Baz mentioned a few years ago:

These are the slab /coil BBA without ends , first appeared in the early 1980's , there were 33 wagons in the pool

  5. We have started a layout based on the wagon repair depot at Tees yard along with the fueling point , the scenic part of the layout is 7 ft long split over two boards , 4 ft for the wagon depot and 3 ft for the fuel.point , we will have a 4 ft fiddle yard hidden by the road bridge that crosses the yard . Here are a few photos of the progress so far , will post updates received_903171706979010.jpeg.80578488ef29a6af0356f3990c691a41.jpegreceived_2678973655737033.jpeg.227b354524e9273f6acfc3fa7e14520c.jpegreceived_970927196969683.jpeg.07860e148eb09dea50aa5026fb1672e6.jpegreceived_900163454224518.jpeg.131fa0b844095fdcf44f5d3b0704a9b4.jpegIMG_20210527_165303.jpg.3ba6a4ea3b2bddde4f6f1dc60aff9800.jpg

We are just refining the first EP so should have some new images to show in the next month or so. Decorations are about to start, so I would say (if pushed) release for the end of the year.

  9. Many years ago we started a layout based on the coil unloading sidings that were at the end of Tinsley yard and can be viewed from the M1 motorway  , we started the layout but built it on a single baseboard , which was far too big and bulky , so a mark 2 version was started about a year or so ago . Progress has been slow to non existent for a while now , but the idea and planning will all come together one day . The layout is 8ft long on two 4ft boards with just one line which uses Peco code 75 bullhead track and will feature a working overhead crane to unload the imported semi finished stainless coils . Having gathered a vast amout of information over the years , i'm always looking for any additional info on this location , be it workings , locos , wagons etc .

I am looking to find out if VTG KIA ferrywagons  ( as per Dapol model ) ever went here to be loaded with export coil ,as i've seen photos of the mid to late 1980's of them in the yard at Tinsley .

  10. As most of the steel wagons are now available in 00 gauge , the BVA cassette wagons that work from the SMACC plant at Tinsley would be a good choice  ,these wagons when built in around 1999 / 2000 carried stainless slab from Tinsley to Immingham and the cassettes were exchanged for one's bringing semi finished coil back to Tinsley , there is also a flow of slab to Seaforth  although I don't know if coil was ever returned from there . The traffic is now only slab and bloom to Immingham and Seaforth , with some trains having two  20ft containers on the cassette to carry imported chrome ore back  to the SMACC plant . These wagons ran with class 60 and 66 and were usually in rakes comprising of most of the fleet with spares left at Tinsley for loading ,

I have corrected the link , so I do apologise , I have used links only to your wagons photographs on my Modelling Railfreight Metals Facebook group for members to click and follow , no photographs  have been published or copied onto the group , I inadvertently copied the link from the Facebook group onto this  RM Web page ,  I apologise for any upset I may have caused . I have included a screenshot of the links I post for wagon posts on the group .
