Please note the degree of qualification  - it did not amount to agreeing with WCRC,  or even net sympathy in their direction.

I've got sympathy because I don't personally have a problem with straightforward doors, and would prefer to live in a world where we're quite happy with them. I don't have any sympathy for them being on the wrong end of this legal issue, which they've had plenty of time to deal with and were trying to deal with it in a manner that was bound to fail - their overall attitude towards the legal side of things. If you were to say they've invited this outcome on themselves I'd entirely agree, and if you've no sympathy overall because of their attitude towards the rules, I'd also agree, because a responsible company works with them whatever opinions they've got.

Any operator of a safety critical process arguing for reliance on procedures as an alternative to engineered solutions is troubling and would raise a huge red flag in my view.

Worse than that, at the same time as arguing for reliance on procedures, on at least two occasions those procedures clearly weren’t being carried out.

On top of that, they’ve had since 01/01/05 to come to an engineering solution.  One could suggest they were showing contempt for the regulation, both in practice and in spirit.

  3. 1: The distance between the inside of the wheel flanges of each axle.  You can buy a gauge set to the correct distance or use a micrometer to check this dimension.  In particular, if the wheels are too close together that can result in a short.

2: No, I alter the polarity, either through integral switches within Cobalt turnout motors, or micro switches on servo mounts, or through electronic frog juicers.

3: Yes, these wires can be connected to your switching method of choice.  Be sure to follow the wiring instructions included with the runout.

ORRR just not modify them at all that plenty seem to.

    This.

As long as you ensure the rolling stock back to backs are correct there should be no issue with shorts.

For one, I've installed and used in excess of 100 Peco N Gauge Code 55 turnouts, all unmodified save for crossing polarity switching, and never had an issue with shorting across them.

S2301-02 original condition with Earle's cement labelling. Was Earle's cement based in Hull?

    I was assuming so, yes.

This link shows the railway connection, to a large extent:

  6. I’ve been following Clyre Calley Railway on the Narrow Gauge Forum, and I was really looking forward to seeing it in the flesh.

    it didn’t disappoint.

This is a layout that has a real purpose, and the operation of it is logical and makes sense. A real joy to stand and watch heavy trains be banked across that centrepiece viaduct.  Another wonderful piece of modelling with lots of excellent detail:

  7. I think most of the visitors that I encountered at this display missed the point of this ‘layout’. I think it would have worked much better if it had barriers in place that forced the observer to stand back and take in the scene as the framing insinuated it should…

A remarkably excellent piece of modelling and vision, this is as far back as I could get for shot, in a rare moment there wasn’t someone right up next to it.
