  1. You could join/try the 'modern freight car list' https://groups.io/g/MFCL Brian. *Edit* ..... you already have!
  2. I`m not completley sure,so i may be corrected by someone who know`s more here;but i think that the green scheme came in after the partnership with the B&M ceased in the mid 50`s. I would also assume that, that`s when the large MEC herald was first applied to the freight stock as well Then of course the 'Harvest Gold' scheme came around in during the 60`s with the GP38`s. As i say i`m not sure, but i don`t think i`m too far off! Brian.
  3. Jerry, if you`ve got a bit of time kill, you might like a look through these; https://railroadprototypemodeler.wordpress.com/blog/ A very nice small semi rural 50`s/60`s, ho scale layout with lots of good advice and building/weathering tips, with a small amount of O scale thrown in for good measure!. http://www.patchrailroad.net/The_Patch/Patch_Home.html Completley different style and setting to the above, and very much urban, but again a small layout. The emphasis for this one is more on switching,50`s/60`s again with small switch engines and freight cars. Nice and simple and very attainable...... http://www.steamerafreightcars.com/ Lots of good info, prototype and modeling, mainly the era`s upto and including the 50`s but will do for 60`s era freight cars as well. Brian.
  4. If your going to use British track ,then Peco Code 75 is as good a place to start if you have it. Once it`s ballasted and painted it does`nt look all that bad..... Brian.
  5. Not wanting to hijack rod`s excellent layout thread....... But do you have a very nice looking layout there Michael. Brian.

    Slow Going

A third board....can`t wait!. Excellent stuff, Brian.
  7. Never really took much notice of milk traffic to be honest, and as a first thought i`d have thought that it was transport in REA/baggage cars in rural area`s like the south....? Anyhow had a quick and came across this reply on the Trains mag site, which sort of backs this theroy up; (author named 'Sam'!) "Not sure in what specific areas of the country these cars ran. In this part of the world back at the turn of the century 20th there were a large number of dairy farms. Specifically, around the Parsons,Ks area on the railroads the MKT, SLSF, and the Interurban line to Cherryvale. The milk from the frarms were loaded into milk cans and taken to flag stops and stations where they were loaded in baggage cars and returned to Creameries located in the larger towns for consolidation. The milk was put in baggage cars or REA Cars for rail transport to the collection point. Major Dairy Plants were located in Cities like Joplin, Mo. Wichita, and Tulsa, OK. Creameries may have used some refrigerated cars to move it the longer distances to the major facilities. form their outlaying collection centers to the bigger packaging and processing plants. The morning locals were used to get eggs from the farms to the plants, and other produce items for sale in the larger towns as well rode on the railroad." And found this. Probably not much use for what you want,as it seem`s to be mainly NE bias, but intresting non the less; milktrains.pdf Brian.
  8. You could try Rustystumps. https://www.rustystumps.com/products.asp?cat=2 Brian.
  9. Ah, forgot about that,thanks. GMD...Canada,EMD.....US.... Brian.
  10. It`s an Canadian National SW1200Rsm, a rebuilt EMD SW1200 switcher; Only the first seven of the class have the GP9 high hood`s by the look`s of things; http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/modelthumbs.aspx?id=CN&mid=1070 Brian.
  11. That i can handle, and just carry on looking. But i`ve come across a couple of late (particularly in Canada) that have no such restrictions listed, that won`t let me buy the item or even contact the seller...arghhh!!. Brian.
  12. This is a head`s up for the US O scalers amongst us..... There are several mixed lots of the older Atlas freight cars on e-bay at the moment. (in the US) So if your after some cheap foder for your freight car conversions or just after some to do up,then check these out; https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/m.html?_odkw=&_ssn=timmerg&item=132483452968&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2046732.m570.l1313.TR11.TRC1.A0.H0.XAtlas.TRS0&_nkw=Atlas&_sacat=0 You need to go about half way down to find them. They are a mixed bunch, but they are cheap, even with the postage and duties. As an example,i`ve just brought 10 freight cars made up of,2x cabooses-2x boxcars-2x RBL boxcars- 2x gon`s & 2x cattle cars, for £95 all in!. OK the trucks/couplers are pretty usless and need changing,(but i`d have to do that anyhow for P48) but for chopping up and re-building into other freight cars there well worth it...from my point of view!. Brian.
  13. Just thought i`d give this a little bump!. Any more progress or thought`s on this Tom?. Brian.
  14. 10 years...wow,i`m lucky if i can stay interested in something for 10 month`s..!! Good to see your still enjoying the layout, and making little improvments as you see fit. Nice one Barry... Brian.
  15. That`s a shame, but understandable if numbers were down. Well nout to say apart from thanks to nick for the past show`s he organized..... Thanks for the info Ray. Cheers, Brian.
  16. I supposed this is really aimed at Nick!. But is there a TVNAM show this year as it`s been a little quite on the info front. Or have i missed an anouncment some where? Cheers, Brian.
  17. It depends on where and what your modeling, but it`s quite common to see tie ends exposed on US lines. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2384134 Brian. PS.nice work so far Joe.....
  18. Perhaps not an offical 'heritage' scheme, but the workers at Interbay (seattle) did a nice job on their shoving platform/caboose back in 2012. https://www.flickr.com/photos/slackaction/7756715280/?ytcheck=1&new_session=1 I wonder how many more such re-paints have been done by local crews?. Brian.
  19. You can pretty much let you imagimation go as far as short line railroads go. The vast majority run loco`s that have had multiple owners/paint schemes, and you`ll even come across some loco`s still running in liveries that could be 25+ years old with nothing more than the new owners reporting marks on them!. Then of course there`s all the various modifications that have been made through re-builds and up-grades. Of course how far you take things is up to you,but if your like me then you`ll drive yourself bonkers with all the differences!! Anyhow if you`ve got a 'little time' on your hands then you could have a look though these shortline railroad`s. http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/railroadList.aspx?tid=3 Happy hunting..... Brian.
  20. Apart from the reto fitted dynamic brakes,(during UP day`s) she`s original...... Ex CNW,from a cancelled Rock island order. More info with pic... http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1391091 Brian.
  21. That`ll make a nice long run,but as to height..i think that`s down to personal preference and how dominant you want the backscene to be. Brian.
  22. I did a search via interweb for georgia forestry/tree pictures when i was building my Louisville & wadley layout. https://uk.search.yahoo.com/search?fr=mcafee&type=C111GB0D20150225&p=georgia+forestry+images I did come up one that i was going to use, though it is probably a bit too dense for what your after.... https://www.farmflavor.com/georgia/georgia-forestry-industry-seeing-wood-trees/ and on the layout http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/74013-the-lwa-1950s-georgia-shortline/&do=findComment&comment=1117481 Hope you find what your looking for. Brian.
  23. Hi Joe, Nice prototype.... I`ve always liked the P&W,especially the early 90`s era when they had a good mix of power...EMD-GE-MLW. Anyhow thought this vid would give poeple a nice idea of the top & Tail operations at the end of the branch... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRy4wur206c But this is one of my favorite P&W Top & Tail combination`s....SW7 & GP9..!! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VztptrAKLFc Look forward to seeing this progress. Brian.
  24. Merry Xmas Jint`s. Looking forward to some more progress & weathering in 2018...... Cheers, Brian.
