Severn Valley Railway Spring Steam Gala Part 2

    Thursday 18-20 April 2024

    From Kidderminster and Bridgnorth

    Companions: Tender and Southern42

Looking through the photos reminded me of this little song:

Red and yellow and pink and green
    Purple and orange and blue

    I can sing a rainbow...

    (Arthur Hamilton)

    So, let's get them sorted.

Well, can you sing a rainbow?

Back soon with just a few more pics from our journeys up and down the line.

    Thanks for poop pooping in.

    Regards,

    Edwin

More hidden talent emerging, Jones.  Well done.

  2. Going through my late son's stuff I've come across

a lot of the instalments of this publication,

(not sure if it's a complete set) together with

the parts from each issue, most of which are

    still in sealed packs.

Is it worth putting on eBay, (it seems a pity to

bin a lot of new stuff); if so what is the best way

to list it, each item as an individual lot,

all as one lot, or 4 or 5 in a lot.

  3. I'm putting together a 'Starter Set' from my late son's collection,

for a 7 year old who is showing an interest in model railways.

Unfortunately I don't have a power/speed control unit for it,

(I let someone else have the Clipper my son had as

I thought it was a bit too complicated for a beginner)

    so I'm looking for suggestions on the best one to get;

something basic but reliable, Hornby, Bachmann??

I was told a tale about football shirts years ago. The factory would run extra shifts using the same materials and tooling, effectively knocking out an identical product.

Heard of  a similar thing happen.

Tooling/parts production done in China.  Soon after fake completed items started appearing on the market.  This went a stage further though, the Chinese poached the marketing director & chief engineer, who had the cheek to phone up a colleague asking for assembly info he'd forgotten to copy before he left the company

  5. I'm looking for some help/advice from the collective RMWeb wisdom.

I'm listing some stuff on Ebay for the family of a deceased friend.

One of the items is a Black & Decker 18V drill.

It works ok but I've noticed when the On switch is released

there appears to be momentary flashing between

the commutator and the brushes, accompanied by

    a slight electrical burning smell.

The item appears to be almost new, so it may well be

something like the brushes bedding in.

I want to be honest when listing the item,

but I don't want to add  detail which might

    deter potential buyers unnecessarily.

    Any thoughts/suggestions would be appreciated

TBH, with the sketchy oversight Amazon applies to things sold on their site you could just order a live bomb and add No 10 as a delivery address.

If you're quick there's one in Plymouth at the moment, but I think you'd need a big drone to deliver it. :)

good luck with it all and with the regular complaints that are mostly out for Warners control. with regard to specialist trade if we as consumers don't support them at exhibitions they want come and also for a two day event for most of the specialist trade that is a day before and an after show that is also taken out because of packing and unpacking so I will not be surprised if they decided to miss this one

Good ro see the first response is a positive one :)

Does Mrs pH still expect you to bring it into the front room every Xmas?  😁

Fortunately the one in a tub in our back garden is looking somewhat poorly.  Like last year's that didn't quite manage a full year.

We once bought a bungalow which had a small "Christmas type" tree in the garden.

The first christmas we were there we dug it up, put it in a tub and took it in doors.

When we looked at it next day it was covered in white insects.

It was back in the garden before Christmas day!

I said no such thing. Why read something into my comments that isn't there?

I 100% agree that they chose to close down and are apparently meeting ALL financial commitments.

I'm quite aware of the difference. I was merely pointing out that often when businesses fail, stuff like vouchers are worth nothing.

You referred to businesses failing, (which I have highlighted).

Klien have not "Failed", they have merely closed down.

That is the point I was trying to make

I think perhaps you need to clarify your understanding

of the difference between a business failing and closing down.

Your comment suggests the business had run out of money,

which is not the case; they simply made the decision to

close down, with sufficient money in the bank to honour

all financial commitments, and hopefully something left over.

  11. Serves me right for trying to help someone!!!

An item I was selling was due to finish about 7:30 this evening.

It had been sat at about £6 for a few days but this afternoon

I had three bids taking it to £11.50.

Around 5 o'clock had a message from the last bidder

asking if I would cancel his last bid, item no longer required!!

I was out at the time, tried to cancel the bid on my phone but wasn't able to.

Got home about 10 min before bidding ended.

By the time I'd managed to cancel the bid, there was about two minutes left.

The item eventually sold for £6. What I didn't realise was the bidder

had put in two bids,  Not sure if I did something wrong but

both their bids were cancelled, taking the selling price back to

what it was before their first bid.

£5:50 lost through trying to help someone :)
