  1. I was going to follow through with my crowdfunding on a few 92s out of a feeling of obligation. I'm now out (consider the deposits a loss and lesson learned) Ordering from the competition who seem to be spending time getting the model loco into production rather than going loco themselves.
  2. Anyone know what "kind" of IP this is? Not a lawyer but googling around seems like "IP" is just a blanket term that covers specifics such as patent, copyright, trademark, trade secret etc. What has been submitted? are there patents on something, or just copyright on some particular CAD which will presumably not protect much when other companies' implementations will differ?
  3. Exactly, or the owners of the livery etc. Are all DJM models now going to be in some non-prototypical special livery so that they cannot be copied, but noone actually wants them?
  4. "This IP covers the external design and look". I can't understand this when you're modelling something that exists.. how can you claim ownership on that as IP? Maybe if you have some clever widgit how how to model a raising pantograph whilst being an accurate model, or some kind of new fancy motor... but appearance? boggle
  5. Many of the elite modellers are those who have taken old models and detailed them to superior standards. You could argue that if you always buy the best models then you have no hope of being a serious modeller (nothing to practice on) I've been waiting for this class 90 to save having to do surgery on older class 90 models, even following well-worn paths taken by previous "serious" modellers who did the research to find out the best donor chassis or set about building super-detailing kits etc. I think this makes me a shy modeller rather than a serious one.
  6. Looking at prototype pictures of BLA wagons it seems like they ended up with a semi-circular weathering pattern following the shape of the coils on the exterior of the cradles. Is this some kind of corrosion? Out of interest what is the exact cause of this effect, is it some kind of galvanic corrosion or something else? e.g.
  7. Do you have any skin in this game? I wonder at the constant negativity, which seems like it can only serve to worry people into potentially not paying the 2nd invoice when it comes through and kill the project as a self-fulfilling prophecy. There seems to be a lot of bad blood and/or resentment around.
  8. I don't think it's a case of funders being allowed to "walk away" and be refunded. At best it'll be that if the entire project is cancelled you might get a refund. Personally I wouldn't expect to, and would actually rather not get it (I took the risk), as it would obviously leave DJM nursing all the losses, which could take him out of the game. I'd rather lose the deposit and keep the builder going as they might deliver novel things that otherwise money (alone) cannot buy.
  9. It seems a shame for the small operators to be treading on each others toes like this. Electric traction has a bad enough reputation for failing to make money without making it harder like this.
  10. https://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/ works for me (windows/chrome)
  11. looks like both of those pics are the "out of gauge" BAOR version of a warflat (extra-wide to carry the tank) https://pgmodels.wordpress.com/2011/03/22/a-different-type-of-warflat-wagon/ so guessing internal use only
  12. Hmm, i didn't receive this one. I wonder if i'm now blacklisted for sharing the first one
  13. technically the email said "can i ask that you do not release this info until next sunday, to give everyone a chance to view and digest the news contained here" Sunday has gone, so here's the text of the document (original was a PDF with prototype pics) "OO gauge class 92 product update Hi everyone, After a tumultuous last 18 months, I am pleased to be able to give you an update on the Class 92 model in OO gauge. As you are probably no doubt aware, a ‘falling out’ ( to put it kindly) with the ‘old’ factory left me with no choice but to write off the OO cad/can and proceed with a more reliable one who literally fell into my lap. These guys know what they are doing, having produced American outline for very reputable companies for many years now. Their cad/cam is now finished and as such the model is ready to go into tooling. With this in mind, I will be going live within the next week with the second deposit request payable via my web site. It is here where you can start an account with your details in to be able to pay the 3rd deposit more easily once that is asked for. Now, due to the amount of time it has taken to get this far, there were some drop outs and prices have gone up very slightly. So I will keep the order book open to recoup those orders for limited time. If all goes well, and with a fair wind, the 1 st EP’s should be on display at Stafford Show at the end of February 2019 All previously announced details will still be on the new models, and the box is slightly altered to make things easier to get in and out of the packaging. More info as and when I have it in exclusive mail shots to your inbox. As ever, I will post this in PDF form to the DJM web site a week to 10 days later than you are receiving this, so I would appreciate, to allow other members chance to read this newsletter, that you not post this info to forums until its’ been on the DJM website. Cheers Dave DJModels Ltd" (Edit: well ok the PDF ended with different instructions than were in the email containing the document. Ooops)
  14. There should be an update on DJM's website in a week or so. I'm not all that comfortable with receiving "insider information" as a crowd-funder ahead of everyone else. It feels unnecessarily divisive when we're all meant to be helping each other on forums, and can't think why there needs to be a delay in telling everyone the project status (fine for crowdfunders to get other benefits such as being first in the queue for actual models if they come in batches, but information can be given to everyone at the same time without putting anyone out) However, i'll go along with the request to not release the information given to us.
  15. Cheers that make sense. I always thought the CAD work was done separately from the factory (e.g. by DJ himself), as they would have the prototype knowledge etc.
  16. I've never quite understood how the CAD files could have been lost. Are they not just like any other file that you can keep an arbitrary number of copies of? Is there some kind of arrangement you have to make with manufacturers where they maintain the rights to CAD files used when signing up with them (seems strange)?
  17. The other thing with oddballs is that people are likely to only ever buy one, whereas with "bread and butter" standard items you may buy multiple. Generally i'd have at least 2 standard items, often more for locomotive classes (for me that's D&E). Any manufacturers should perhaps weight the votes with some measure of ubiquity. I've got 10+ 37s, and would love class 81s to come out but would likely only buy a couple (i have 3x85s). When it comes do DMU/EMU i tend to have two (one for up services, the other for down). Class 325s are very likely to sell multiple as they tend to run that way.
  18. https://www.rssb.co.uk/rgs/rulebooks/RS521%20Iss%203.pdf bottom of page 16 Position-light signals associated with a main aspect These are normally positioned below the main aspect they are associated with, and often on the same signal post. The normal aspect for a position-light signal is unlit. This means ‘obey the main signal’. The train or movement may proceed past the signal when the position-light signal shows proceed. The driver must be prepared to stop short of any train, vehicle or obstruction.
  19. The quoted 4 minute warm-up time from 23-300C would worry me a bit, seems a bit slow for a 60W iron.
  20. I wonder how much of this "electrics don't sell well" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If us, "the converted", feel that the 87 might not sell quickly then some will be tempted to hold off and wait for the "bargain basement" prices, saving some cash on this particular model, but hurting our own chances of further models we might desire down the line. I'm jumping in with both feet, no waiting.
  21. in case this gets read by people choosing what to go for, i'll add in my vote for a 304 or 310. I missed out on the DCKits offerings and have been holding off on southern pride for now (too much else to do). Although given that I bought up a stock of old 87s, 90s, and 92s with a view to converting those to modern chassis and all have since been announced as a new RTR model release maybe I should buy an EMU kit to "summon" an RTR for that too.
  22. Out of interest when people say "working pan" do they mean sprung, able to raise and lower, or do they mean it must be able to pick up power from overhead? (as well as the other things). I sometimes get lost wondering which aspect people are asking for or believe is necessary. I can relate to the former (the sprung part certainly), but doing an electrified overhead would be beyond RTR for me - at that point i'd start being sad that i didn't have scale engines inside the diesels.
  23. Hi, A couple of questions: Firstly, I attempted to register interest for some 92s over the weekend, and from perusing the thread it looks like there's usually an email response, but I didn't receive one (nothing in junk either). I see that others had problems with this earlier on, does the problem remain? Secondly, regarding the DCC sound option. Will the sound files installed be from an existing well-known supplier so that we can hear the proposed sounds in advance, or will it be something new? Apologies if i've missed this being specified somewhere earlier in the thread. Regards, Sorabain
