Try a Zimo chip in the 15, Rob - they have the best motor control. I know exactly the issue you describe, despite turning starting voltage to the lowest setting, it is still too high for some mechanisms.
Couldn't agree more Neil, best decoders out here by a mile.

Thank you for that very comprehensive reply, very much appreciated and also interesting in many ways too.
My first encounter with French loco's other than my childhood friends' Jouef trainset was at an exhibition where Mike Sharman was operating his delightful layout. I was rather awestruck seeing his Crampton's plus other wonderful Victorian models.
Had I the expertise to make a Crampton then it wouldn't have be Italian railways that are currently being
playedmodelled.I know there are some models available through a French Company but I dare not start another theme !!!

Yep ! Guess how I know that !!!
I have found some spare non-ferrous axles to replace those affected, and thank you for highlighting it here.

"Small layouts are dull"
"Small layouts have no operating potential"
I don't think so!
They have been a source of inspiration and help retain many a modellers sanity !

We really shouldn't be tempting you, as you've got enough on your plate. But if you haven't come across it: I like some of the paintings/drawings of Starcross on this page. Some useful photos of the Pumping House too:
Correct !
However as it is on one of my favourite cycle routes and has been on a bucket list ( Oh ! I hate that phrase but it suits the response ) of buildings to model for more years than I care to remember then it will be a definite / maybe in the future.
I have seen that particular website and it is an extremely useful reference source for anyone wishing to discover the building and its history, thank you for posting it here for others to discover.
Further to which whilst I was a member of the BGS I did purchase Paul Garnsworthy's excellent book " Brunel's Atmospheric Railway "
which is well worth purchasing assuming it is still in print.

I am sure I have read somewhere of the small cylindrical power magnets that fit down between the sleepers being used, two sets of two or three of them in a row offset to one side, the right I guess, instead of the slab magnets. This might have been to do with the Dapol N gauge ones. I don’t know if it might be worth experimenting with as they could be easier to disguise maybe.
That is something I have seen done to good effect by others but having experimented with it myself using various several sizes and positioning I haven't been successful with neodymium magnets. Rob and I have discussed this and I have opted to use the undertrack Kadee delayed uncoupling magnets for my project as it is a tried and tested method which hasn't failed I'm happy to say.

The remote uncoupling worked well after all the trials and tribulations involved in setting it up for the first time.
Repeated 'testing' should confirm this to be the case.

You know that I am going along similar ways with my "side project", may I ask if they will eventually be disguised with your method of concreting or similar ?
Nice work so far and keeping the wooly theme too.

Conjugate the verb “To Go”…I’m actually really amazed at what you’ve been making and sharing on here. It’s got so much character.
Thank you for your kind comments, very much appreciated.
Cards on the table, the recent buildings have been based on images referencing old paintings or photographs found on t'internet which I've adapted to suit my needs and hopefully give the feel and character of something Italianate in style. The "ruins" was just a quickly made side model following Northroaders comment and is totally made up with scraps based upon nothing whatsoever other than how I thought at the time.
Speaking of Italianate, I would have liked to produce a small Broad Gauge diorama with the Pumping House at Starcross featuring in the background thereby using some of my early BG loco's and stock, harking back to that recycling theme.
We shall see possibly ?
Meanwhile I have a side project and a 7mm layout to be getting on with.

Lovely. Does the colour need some toning down eventually?
Thank you Mikkel,
It doesn't actually look that "bright" in reality due to my iPhone photograph and not adjusting the light levels etc but I may well be doing some light weathering on the building eventually.

Ref an earlier posting I was thinking more along the lines of this !

A Day of Worship.....
As it is Sunday I thought I would do some more work on the small Chapel for the layout.....
More ridge pantiles were cast from a mould I'd previously made using some resin
The corners will receive some stone quoins and further work required but seems ok so far.

Whilst searching I came across a video of these superbly engineered models in 1:32 scale ........drooool.......
Worth watching even if, like me you aren't too conversant with the Italian language the models speak for themselves.
