  1. Nuclear flask wagons are covered in detail in Rail Express August and September 2007 issues. Chris
  2. I wonder whether this photo shows the conversion with a tarpaulin cover, immediately behind 47 310: http://www.penmorfa.com/Archive/47310%20Ffynnongroew.jpg Chris
  3. There is an anomaly on the circuit board on (some?) Bachmann Class 105s. Pin 1 and Pin 8 are incorrectly wired and/or labelled from memory and you may find that this is affecting the lights. Turning the decoder plug through 180 degrees worked for me. Chris
  4. Are the Network Rail DVTs actually used much these days? There are a few videos on the Internet of trial runs in 2014/15, mainly with DBS Class 67s, but not a lot after that. Colas seem to top 'n' tail test trains or use RTOV ex DBSOs. Chris
  5. Thanks Nigel. I always thought they were a rather nice representation with a delicate operating mechanism considering they were made probably 50 years or so ago. Chris
  6. Could anybody assist me with identifying the manufacturer of these rather good, for their time, working ground signals (4mm). They probably date from around the mid sixties and appear to be mostly whitemetal castings. They have a diamond logo on the underside but I cannot decipher the inscription within the diamond. Thanks for any assistance. Chris
  7. There is an anomaly on the circuit board on (some?) Bachmann Class 105s. Pin 1 and Pin 8 are incorrectly wired and/or labelled from memory and you may find that this is affecting the lights. Turning the plug through 180 degrees might solve it but I've never tried this with a sound decoder. Good luck. Chris
  8. Probably not the issue you are trying to track down but the November 2005 Rail Express has good coverage of Freightliner. This issue had a few articles (prototype and modelling) to mark Freightliner's 40th Anniversary. Chris
  9. That's very helpful, thank you. I wonder if the wagon shown was in use through the Channel Tunnel as mentioned in the Rail Express article as the photo is taken at Wembley? Chris
  10. I can find plenty of photographs of the white PBAs as a single wagon or a pair of wagons in freight consists but such use seems rarer once they were refurbed as JIAs in blue Tiphook livery. Can anybody point me to photos showing that they still worked as wagonloads in the later livery or were they then mainly used in block formations? I've seen the Rail Express article and it doesn't specifically mention later individual use. Thanks, Chris
  11. I found this excellent picture of a dual cab WR Freightlifter lurking in the Birds Eye containers on Paul Bartlett's site : http://paulbartlett.zenfolio.com/conflatbafp/h2831fe#h2831fe Chris
  12. There is a photograph of the Railfreight red and grey version in the August 2011 Rail Express Modeller. Chris
  13. I think the former goods yard at Colwyn Bay used to handle oil traffic before it dispapeared under the new A55 and Safeways supermarket. The replacement yard at Glan Conwy certainly had (has?) oil handling facilities but thy've been out of use for many a year. Chris
  14. In a moment of idle thought it occurred to me that we are heading towards the end of the four wheeled wagon in everyday use. With the comparatively recent influx of bogie wagon types for infrastructure, timber, cement, bitumen/petroleum and aggregates then it must be unlikely that any four wheel types will be built in the future. Presumably higher capacity and better ride with less track wear and higher speed capability spells the end for the four wheelers. Apart from MEAs, VGAs and VDAs and some infrastructure types, what other four wheelers is in everyday use? Chris
  15. What's on your mind?

Hi, I am interested in your Hadrian's Bar if it is still for sale? Let me know, cheers Steve

  16. Dapol might be in a mess with the proposed numbering for the silver bullets. According to their catalogue and Hattons pre-orders page, the numbering for individual wagons seems to be one from the ANF Industrie batch and three from the Arbel Fauvet batch. Isn't it the latter wagon they are modelling, so the first one is wrong? Also, they are all shown with country code 70 (BR) but all the information and pictures I have seen show them as being registered to SNCF (code 87), unless they've been re-registered since 2006, which is the latest info I have. Can anybody in the know confirm my concerns or correct me? Many thanks, Chris
