I have been looking at those for a while now but never got round to buying one. I would love to see what sort of results you get from it with plasticard and thin metal sheet.

Oh, and as for liveries I think the best approach would be to google the lorry. I will be honest and say I hadnt really given that bit much thought, I coloured it blue because I think Pickfords had some? Fingers crossed someone will know!

As I mentioned in the post, I am really looking forward to seeing the results so I will email you my address. The intention was for all the wheels to be attached with some Brass rod or similar and no, the intention wasnt for them to rotate! I will also send you an STL for the Allchin wheels but I wouldnt be surprised if you hear from Jerry soon too!

I thought it would be worth adding a photo on how I made the mesh. It basically starts out as two lengths of fine wire, one is wrapped around pins to form the horizontal part and the other the vertical. Once all the mesh is in place I then used thin superglue around the outside to hold everything in place before trimming it all to length. I was worried that if I used solder to solder it in place the wire would stretch and deform, hence the superglue.

I am too looking forward to seeing the layout as I have never seen it. It doesnt look like the engine needs any more work to me either (apart from some weathering maybe?). I would be very happy with that.

How come you cant get a flywheel to run true if its machined on a lathe? I would have thought if its machined all in one then it would be fine? Maybe some sort of jig like what tyre people use will help?

I have been thinking about this a little Jerry and I dont know if thats a good or bad thing. The Peckett is a classic example of how frustrating it can be at times. It is nice sometimes to be 'unique' but I do think the majority of the time its nice to follow in other peoples footsteps. What do you think?

Nick, I didnt seal it, no but then there is plenty of paint on it so fingers crossed that should hold it together. Most of the fern was pretty dry already when I used it (see top photo)

As I said, my comment wasnt regarding 2mm finescale. I have been to enough shows and things to know when and when not to push something like that, its ultimately your decision, no-one elses! My original comment was a very poor attempt at making sure you were aware of other options, especially as you are starting out a fresh.

The point that I was trying to make was that if you give yourself a timescale, especially a unrealistic one (Im not saying you are btw) its when compromises happen. Things you will never be happy with and then the chances of you completing them drastically goes down, trust me I know! If something takes ages to complete, alot longer than you expected, then thats how long it takes. Believe me though you will be very proud of what you have achieved.

I have set myself a target with my modelling never to say the words "stuff it, that will do" and although my modelling speed can be called 'glacial', I am very proud of what I have made and achieved so far. I, like the majority of people have a regular 9-5 job and have to squeeze modelling in after that and amongst other, more mundane things.

Ignoring the 2mm finescale for now, you seem to be concerned about timescales. Have you got a timescale in mind then? The reason why I ask this is for most, its a hobby and it doesnt matter how long it takes you to do something, the important thing is that you enjoy yourself. I am probably one of the slowest modellers on this site but I dont care! I am enjoying myself...

My honest opinion is that is way to complicated. If it was me I would change the fiddleyard to a cassette and a single siding, this would allow a greater depth of scenic board (depth of scenery is everything in N scale). I would also remove a couple of those sidings next to the platform to free up a bit of space there and also move the track away from the right hand end of the baseboard so it doesnt look like the track stops right on the edge of the baseboard.

Thats my opinion anyway, feel free to ignore it (like you did about my 2mm finescale comment! )

That looks incredible! I'm tempted to get out my 2mm association wagon kit (the one that comes with the trial pack) and try and build the chassis - if I can do that then I'm certainly tempted if you plan to produce more!

Give it a go! You well know that you should give 2mm Finescale a go, if you want anymore of a incentive then if you get that wagon kit done I will give you one of these wagon etches!

The lining practice isnt going that well TBH. I still cant get anywhere near that standard of my attempts at St Albans let alone getting anywhere near what you have achieved.

This has crossed my mind, even the possibility of using the 3D printed tank as the final version but for some reason I have been reluctant to do it (I dont know why!). My preference right now is to fabricate the tanks out of Brass and stuff, the second choice then would be to resin cast them which in that case a 3D printed tank would be great as a master.

I just dont know the answer to which one to do yet!

Thats a good thought, hmmmm.

I have decided that if I can make a good reliable jig then there is no real need to get the tanks resin cast, the wagon is surprisingly heavy for its size. Of course I could also add some lead to the tank if I needed. This all relies on a jig really.

I need to tweak the body a bit first Jerry, there are a couple of mods I need to do since trying to build one. It will make assembling it a little easier. Unfortunately I will not be at Railex this year, I have agreed to take Highclere to a show in Bideford for a good friend of mine which sadly clashes with Railex.
