When I was a teenager I had a wonderful ginger cat, Sandy, who used to to do that whenever I was operating my TT model railway. Brings back some wonderful memories.

  2. In 1957 just before my third birthday we moved into the only house my parents ever owned! They both died in old age and I sold it a year after my father's death. At the bottom of the garden was the District line just south of Southfields station. That line had and still has National Rail trains as well as the Underground service. My first night soon after bedtime I was found with my nose against the bedroom window as a steam hauled freight train went past. I was hooked from that moment on trains. My father was a sports fan and we went everywhere by train to watch such sports as football, rugby, speedway, stock cars, cricket and ice hockey. My grand parents lived in Manchester and we visited them at least twice a year for a few days which meant a nice journey outside the day trips we did almost every weekend. In 1971, 72 and 73 I used an All-line Rover and covered most of the railways that were open at that time. Still love trains and regularly spend time on heritage lines as well day trips for fun around the country.

  3. I am spending the day on the Spa Valley Railway for the second day of their three day Winter Steam Gala.

The weather was cold but dry when I left home but it started to rain soon after I arrived at Eridge.

Always a good idea. Hoping to acquire one myself in the not too distant future. Still can't decide on a Dapol or Minerva one though. They both look like great models.

Get two of each is the best idea!

The mug must be big enough to hold a few Maine 😉

The mug holds half a pint so two coffees during the morning is the first pint of milk of my day.

Cows milk is for calves and nobody else.

Well for the past sixty years I have been enjoying at least two pints of milk a day and since I retired it is normally four or five pints that disappears. About a pint in coffee and the rest enjoyed cold.

North Devon you could find a Westcountry with a single Maunsell brake second...

It was the only way to stop them wheel spinning when starting!

  8. I have a Gaugemaster Combi controller and three BR Genesis coaches on pre order. Had an email a couple of days after the closure announcement saying the controller would be removed from the order for obvious reasons but to date it is still showing as a pre order and I don't intend to cancel it until Hattons cancel it themselves.

In all this I just feel very sorry for the staff who are being made redundant. I hope they all find good replacement jobs quickly.

I do wonder if there will be an announcement of the Cumbria mountain express next Saturday which will the first WCRC operated railtour since the judicial decision

Nothing on real train times yet either

    Mike

Well the train ran but was around an hour late leaving Euston in the morning and 45 minutes late leaving Carlisle. It arrived 29 minutes late at Preston and currently (21:21) is still alongside platform 4 at Preston. Not a happy day for Railway Touring Co or WCRC.

I asked that question a while back.

It's just an extra numbering list in UP's roster. Supposedly for "yard" locos.

It's interesting as it a proper reporting mark which all US rail vehicle owner/operators have, so the number is actually  UPY 700 not UP Y700

Thank you for expanding my US railroad knowledge.

My US Railroad shunting layout has one UP loco and I would like to get another with the US flag on each side but not at the prices I have seen so far.

Well, if we're offending the regions -

What's the difference between black Americans and Yorkshiremen?

Black Americans gave us The Blues.

Yorkshiremen winge all the time: they just don't set it to music.

(Maybe also applies to the Welsh?)

But the Welsh have male voice choirs!
