  1. Yes, bought a 1363 and a 1369 from the Heljan stand at the Warley show this weekend. £99 each.
  2. We never used to get lines there years ago. But quite obviously, if I can clearly see them then I'm aware of them. So, how do you buff them out without affecting the paint finish? Buffing out on a satin finish is going to make it shiny anyway, and probably remove paint on the highest spot.
  3. Unfortunately we're still getting these longitudinal lines on the smokebox between the chimney and the handrails. (The samples of Dapol's mogul all seem to have them too, but they are not nearly so noticeable - I could only just see them, but they are there).
  4. Re: parking prices. If you go to the NEC website you can pre-pay for a parking ticket for £12 instead of the usual £16, provided you do it the day before. Either print it at home, or if already on site (no access to printer) save it to your phone.
  5. Perhaps they're getting War of the Worlds confused with The Time Machine...
  6. Maybe because, as mentioned earlier, the linkage wasn't actually connected to the regulator in the cab. The fireman was keeping an eye on the end of the linkage, and then moved the regulator to the position that the driver wanted, hoping the driver wouldn't notice the delay...Possibly. ;-)
  7. Any volunteers to assist in permanently attaching it to the wall in his hallway?
  8. Clearly the revenue generated from these full-page adverts of tat is too good to turn down.
  9. Not how I read it, and who was doing the "bleating" anyway?
  10. I'm not "bleating on about it" or anything else for that matter. You're quoting me from a year ago anyway! Check your calendar...
  11. I don't think the years given on the caption are correct - the headlamps appear to be dark, so are presumably red. When did the GWR change from red to white lamps?
  12. Hopefully Hornby are keeping back a stock of 10-spoke front pony wheels for the production batches...
  13. The Bedford HA vans that my BT colleagues use to drive (not me, I was exchange-based), certainly had steel wings. Certainly, over the years they managed to put plenty of dents, dings and scrapes in them, and they certainly rusted! Maybe you were thinking of the early Morris Minor vans the Post Office (both Royal Mail and GPO Telephones) that used to have rubber wings (with the headlamps mounted on top) ?
  14. Have a watch of this Goodyear snow tires advert, apparently from 1962: I wonder if Geoffrey Jones got some inspiration from it for his 1963 film "Snow" ?
  15. I certainly remember the article, but not the year it appeared, and that genuine shots of District or Metropolitan trains from above in 'cut and cover' sections were carefully 'cut and pasted' onto photos of the house floor to appear as if the trains were running under the floor.
  16. 247 Developments used to do etched overlays to do just that. Don't think they are currently available though.
  17. You sure it was one of those? The Airfix model is of the AEC/Park Royal vehicles, which worked on the Midland and Scottish regions, not on the Western region. It was more likely an AC Cars railbus you travelled on, as these worked on the Western (and one on the Scottish region).
  18. My point was that in the OP 'planning' to use the Dapol canopy, and how he was going to modify it, meant that he had already made the decision that it was exactly what he was going use.
  19. If you are 'planning' to use one of the kits, why don't you just buy one?
  20. I've got this DVD: http://www.bfi.org.uk/blu-rays-dvds/rhythm-film The director Geoffrey Jones is interviewed on it, and the story behind Snow's music is explained. (Most, if not all, of the films contained on the DVD can be found on Youtube.) Another of Sandy Nelson's works is "Let there be Drums", a single which is very similar in style to "Teen Beat".
  21. For those who remember their music of the period (I don't - too young) might recognise the music as being a tweaked version of Sandy Nelson's "Teen Beat", originally from 1959, but re-released in 1964.
  22. Well I don't know what was said or done, or when, but I see he's now 'Banned'. His knowledge will be missed, I'm sure.
  23. I wasn't aware of that until now. What's happened?
  24. They've got rivets. Lots of rivets.
