That reminds me of the butcher who sat on the bacon slicer - and got behind with his orders !

I’m relieved to see the Dean cab in situ- it looks really good. The real challenge will be to extend the sides under your new full roof. I wish Mlle Stoker was as helpful with the hobby as Miss RH is . She did dismantle a couple of coaches once - but that was in anger !!

Minor job on the 517, I've begun painting the backhead details, not that you're going to be able to see much when the roof is on!
I'm also having a scratch about for some crew figures. They'll probably be modified Airfix, as I've got a few of them somewhere and they worked well in Number 23.
On the right is the furled storm sheet for 2291, made from half a cigarette paper rolled around a piece of handrail wire. It was then twisted to create creases and a thin strip of paper wound round for the straps. Once it's had a little weathering I'll fix it under the cab roof.
Excellent copper pipe and brass work Rob, better than any RTR efforts, those pipes look real !

Yes please, but I’m not sitting outside in this weather. You’ve saved some excellent new viewpoints to keep us entertained in your absence!

I’m liking the bay window set back under the sturdy balcony.

Well, that’s a relief - 530 will run again and look splendid!

Oh the suspense - will the Dean cab fit - or is the 517 project heading for the Room of Doom ?

Indeed lucky with the bunker, I don’t suppose you have the keeper plate and external brake rods from one of your donor 57xx ‘s to fettle for this project?

I feel sorry for the mangled brake pipe.

It’s the meandering that’s such a draw- I’ve learnt a lot of useful stuff and benefitted from the counselling sessions and have been cheered up no end! Now is that a sanding box beneath the domed lid behind the bulkhead and tap?

Nice detail- I bet a lot of firemen have barked their shins on that valve over the years.

Is the upright member attached to the inside of the verandah end a lamp bracket ?

Have a great holiday- we’ll get over it, but don’t leave the squadron leader up there!

How about stiff brush bristles for beanpoles - but @KNP will know best.

I would find it a bit of a challenge to fold such a thin edge neatly along the whole footboard, but I’m sure with your wealth of engineering experience you will have a cunning plan.
I’m enjoying your 517 project, I had been planning to convert my aging Airfix 14xx but as my modelling years are limited I’ll crack on with the scenery for Limpley Stoke and buy a railmotor next year. I hope the Dean cab idea works out .

That Dean cab looks a brilliant wheeze- nobody would notice the width discrepancy..

Limpley Stoke next stop !
The quarter / half lights look much better when the interior is illuminated. We have been spared firebox glow I think !

Lovely load of coal for the coaling stage, I hadn’t noticed that before- real coal obviously. That’s a big carbon wagonprint.

Happy Christmas Rob, and special greetings to Miss RRH for supporting your hobby with such humour.
Your thread has been a masterclass in productive displacement activity, so as Kevin McCloud would say about the crew of 530, will they be in by Christmas ?
