  1. Hello everyone, Tony, Briefly, as a beginner who already has a Railroad D49, this is exactly the sort of topic I need. To be honest, much of the detailed studies of advanced modelling are a little scary. I'm a beginner but not young. I admire the lifetimes experience and work on display but I'll never catch up; it is the structural and scenic work that I enjoy. But I'll certainly have a go at the more achievable conversion work covered by the likes of the D49. Happy New Year Everyone, Hal.
  2. Wonderful work as usual! I've often felt a hankering for the States... But I'd have to sell my wife's body to pay for medication. HAPPY NEW YEAR ! Hal and Co.
  3. I'd planned to do more before launching a layout topic, but I've done it: SCOTSWARD ROAD is live...

  4. How many posts must I make before I can start a topic? (I'm so dumb, can't fin it anywhere)

You can start one whenever you want. Go to the section you want to start one in and click on the "Start New Topic" button at the top right of the page.

Thanks BR(S) I don't know where I got that idea from.

  5. How do I re-size photos for RMweb? There is a guide but it's out of date, and Flickr doesn't work anymore. :(

  7. Excellent! And thank you for the thorough tutorial. I shall have need of it! BTW:I've ordered the Gravett book from Amazon. I'm really looking forward to its arrival. He and his partner are cutting edge in the scenery department. Regards, Hal.
  8. Talking of presents, I had a wonderful Christmas surprise courtesy of my wonderful wife: - a Bachmann Green Class40 with sound! - I obviously made enough "sound" to qualify for its coming into existence, but I might have to turn the volume down before she regrets her generosity. Regards, Hal.
  9. Not the most auspicious first post. After further study I agree with the above, particularly the reference to 00 gauge frames. Memo to self: Keep it buttoned until you have something worth saying. Hal.
  10. Hello Everyone, Seasons Greetings! - my first post on Wright Writes - and one of the first on RMweb following a year of lurking. Without expertise, I have to agree: the picture seems anatomically(?) impossible. Regards, Hal.
  11. Thanks Alex, that's interesting. It's the unit I've favoured in my comparisons uptil now. The Gravetts are incredible. I've been promising myself their tree book but wasn't aware of the grass one. In an urban layout where embankments feature strongly, it looks like the grass volume will be my first choice' Your modelling really is first class, and now - understanding the limitations of the tea-tool - I'm even more impressed. Certainly, an applicator that deals with longer fibres is a must for the ultimate effect. I look forward to the additional work you do with the new unit. Before and after shots of areas you treat would be very interesting, particularly for those who (I know a couple) have convinced themselves that the strainer will do all they need. Cheers, Hal.
  12. Which grass machine, Alex? I'm pondering such an item. Regards, Hal.
  13. Hi David, having lurked for nearly a year I've just found your layout following a post you made on Wright Writes. It'll be a real pleasure to watch a layout develop right from the start, particularly since my own layout, set in the north-east, is still a bit pre-thread just now. Hopefully, in the new year. Seasonals, Hal.
  14. Please do the huge post when time is available. I'll thoroughly enjoy it and I'm sure everyone else will, too. I particularly like the dour rendering of the Station Master's House. Spot on with the original. Regards, Hal.
  15. Having lurked for the best part of twelve months, I've very much enjoyed - and learned from - all your projects, particularly the goods vehicles and architectural items. 'Seems like a good time of year to burst the posting bubble, and you were top of my list! Wishing You and Yours a Happy Christmas and a Fruitful New Year, Hal.
