  1. Good grief - a rustic Deltic!! Were the Deltics built by British Leyland? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Digital-Freight-Locomotive-OO-Gauge-Professionally-Hand-Painted-/272251323673?hash=item3f63718519:g:XagAAOSw~oFXE53X
  2. I agree - I'm 55 and nobody ever refers to me as 'new' these days!
  3. I haven't got the original print unfortunately but I think the VEP vehicle is very likely to be a spare from the 8 VAB donations as stated. Another possibility though is that it may have been the undamaged DTC from unit 7714 which was involved in the crash that occurred at this location in July 1971 which I think became spare for a while until 7714 was ultimately reformed
  4. A rarity from the Southern here. Southern EMUs rarely contained vehicles within a set in different liveries as the fixed formations of sets meant they would tend to go through works and every vehicle would be repainted at the same time ( although there were a few exceptions over the years). So this shot is rare from that perspective but also in that it shows the rare combination of a 4 VEP motor coach (in blue) coupled to what appears to be a trio of 4CIG coaches in blue and grey. The unusual headboard (presumably indicating that it is a test train) and the unusual headcode (34) adds to the mystery. If you ran this on a layout then you would attract howls of disbelief! The picture was taken at Surbiton around 1971/2
  5. Not model railway related but still a great Ebay advert http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ultra-Rare-2013-1-Coin-/381604811297?hash=item58d96b5221:g:zYwAAOSwubRXFRvD
  6. A 'diesel' locomotive!!! can't help thinking that a better description of this one might have attracted more interest from bidders unless the seller genuinely doesn't realise what this is! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BOXED-Bachmann-BRANCH-LINE-DIESEL-LOCOMOTIVE-00-GAUGE-BRITISH-RAILWAYS-GREEN-/381586762741?hash=item58d857ebf5:g:nrcAAOSwoudW~Vq0
  7. Well if that is the Flying Scotsman 'as it was' then no wonder they had to spend £4M on it to bring it back up to scratch!
  8. Without wanting to pour scorn on the Surbiton - Okehampton GUV model - am I right in thinking this is effectively the standard Bachmann GUV model but with one of the distinctive train nameboards attached to each side. If so then the £11 supplement for simply adding the name boards would seem somewhat excessive. If it is a completely new model on the basis that the hinged ends on these vehicles were different than those on the standard GUV then I stand corrected. I would like to run a model of the full train but if I go ahead and buy say 7 of these then that is going to cost a considerable amount more than simply buying 7 standard green GUVs
  9. The advert says this is in 'excellent boxed condition' - in that case I'm just popping up to Specsavers as there is clearly something wrong with my eyesight! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-OO-GAUGE-32-152-N-CLASS-BR-BLACK-EARLY-2-6-0-LOCOMOTIVE-31813-/201436800836?hash=item2ee691a744:g:ds4AAOSwVL1WBQ3I
  10. Thank goodness he didn't put a mobile phone number on it - that would be stretching reality even further!
  11. I think the guard might also be upset with the fact that with a Paxman engine at each end - where would he actually store the parcels and how will he get them in or out?
  12. Yet another streamlined LMS Coronation in scrapyard condition - yet still this stuff seems to sell!! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/weathered-locomotive-OO-gauge-scrapyard-Coronation-Duchess-heavily-rusted-/301873469402?hash=item46490f97da:g:m84AAOSwFNZWwecX
  13. This maybe a Stanier but I think it is one of his numerous tanks as opposed to one of his coaches http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Hornby-RAILWAYS-MODEL-No-R-473-R474-LMS-57-STANIER-COACHES-VN-MIB-/400909393210?hash=item5d580fdd3a:g:rowAAOSwBahVPU36
  14. It must have been one hell of a crash! It looks like Father Ted's raffle prize car after he tried to knock out a small dent!!
  15. I don't know if I am missing something here but why would you actually bother to list an item by stating what it isn't? It's like trying to sell a Ford car and stating that it is not a Rover nor is it a Toyota - bleedin' obvious or what? Surely the only real reason to use the word 'not' in a model loco advert is if it is 'not' in working order or if it is 'not' in good condition!
  16. Oh no it isn't! http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-RAILWAYS-63ft-BULLEID-CORRIDOR-OPEN-BRAKE-2ND-NO-S-3962-S-MODEL-34-503-/121855772452?hash=item1c5f2b8724:g:GJoAAOSwHaBWiUbE
  17. I like the look of these new ones from Bachmann - it's brand new and unused I am but not sure if it comes in it's box? I'm going to buy two of these but I am worried that the back to back spacing - it look a bit out for OO gauge - might be gauge 1 I know the wife will say 'what have you bought another one of these for - you've already got plenty of them'? Maybe if I keep it in my stock box she won't notice http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bachmann-2/191755923675?_trksid=p2045573.c100034.m2102&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20140107092241%26meid%3D29685c5f08b748ed8d8fa6bdea989ba9%26pid%3D100034%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D4%26sd%3D281816165417
  18. I've got an early one that used to say HATTONS MODEL RAILWAYS - a real collectors item! Must be worth a fortune though - the only problem is that unfortunately over the years all the letters apart from those which are underlined above appear to have faded away. Will that effect it's value?
  19. Yes but that will cost an extra 5p
  20. Might be worth waiting until the cold weather arrives - it might be shorter and therefore a bit cheaper by then
  21. I do love the way that the guy who sells these proudly confirms that each one is 'finished in a protective coat of matt lacquer'! After all you wouldn't want to buy one and find that his unique hand crafted effect had been damaged in the post!! Interesting that he uses the word 'lacquered' as opposed to 'varnished' - mind you when you look at the stuff he creates I think it is safe to say that they do look well and truly knack lacquered!
  22. A rather strange and unusual choice of livery - not sure what it is meant to represent. However, that said, whoever has done has done this has actually done a relatively good paint job to a reasonable standard which compares well with some of the dreadful repaints, weathered catastrophes and scrapyard disasters that appear on these pages each week! An unusual thing to do but somebody seems to have taken their time over it - for whatever reason.
