  1. Well, I dont expect much modeling in the next few weeks. End of semester, last minute homework, finals, and then a ten day trip through England, France, and Amsterdam. Already packed up all my modeling things to maybe clear some clutter away and make eventual packing easier. I have decided what my next kits will be though...if I can get money. Im eyeing the Slaters MR 8t van and the Cambrian LMS wood bodied van. Along with that, Im looking to pick up some more opens as well. Hoping the next few weeks go by well, and that I can get some money saved up for kits. Maybe when Im in England, Ill find a model shop that stocks kits. Doubt my luck though... My main goal in England is to find a second hand Hornby Pug. Love the pug, even if its such a cliche model. So for now, no more updates for a while. Will still be active though, too addicted to this site. Haha See ya!
  2. Oh WOW! Aside from the dummy coupling hook and the tension locks, this looks really good. The doors are absolutely beautiful. It really does look realistic. The balsa on the corners came out really nice as well. Just dont scrape them. If the corners ever give you trouble, maybe using bass wood would make a more durable corner. This is just spectacular.
  3. Was that paint stock on the tender? Around the axle boxes and springs it doesnt seem too neat. Cant wait to see what you do to this. Oh, and the lining looks good on the loco.
  4. We have balsa in the states. Its a nice soft wood. Great for planes, although I prefer bass wood for modeling. Its denser and stronger.
  5. What kind of wood is that on the corner bits? This is shaping up to be an interesting wagon.
  6. Wow, very nice. Wish I could make a van that nice. Are the solebars supposed to be that far out?
  7. Wish I had money for new kits. And that I didnt have finals coming up.

      Even so for uni.

  8. Maybe if you see pics and the price you may jump on it before reading "photos". Wow. Not even stated in the description.
  9. yes. http://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/topic/83255-spitfires-workbench/I dont mean to hijack your thread in any way. I realize the planks are thick, but its not worth the effort to get it thinner with plain sandpaper.
  10. In the beginning, the universe was created...this made a lot of people very angry and has wildly been regarded as a bad move.

  11. I actually cut each plank separately. Thats how Ive done my opens. Im still planning a van.
  12. Im actually good with wood more than plastic. My big issue is I need detailed drawings and I cant seem to find any. No money for expensive reference books either. Anywhere I can find good drawings with measurements that wont hurt my wallet?
  13. I wish I could do something like this, its amazing. If I did it, it would look less like a train, more like a Picasso.
  14. I dont understand why but white paint hates me

  15. Hey, looking nice, only issue is the brake gear wouldnt work. Haha, in my quest for accuracy in my models, Ive developed a bit of brake gear obsession. The w irons are impressive. One thing I like about the Dapol chassis and smiths 3 links is you can hollow out a slit and use the spring and all, yet still be able to screw on a tension lock. You seem to be very good with plasticard. Cant wait for the body.
  16. Just broke ground on a 10 page paper for one of my classes

  17. Hello. I have done more lettering. I decided to use condensed letters to fit the 'coal' between the straps but non-condensed for 'merchants' due to the fact that the gap around the A just didnt look right with the thinner letters. As great as HMRS decals are, they dont do tiny detail well apparently. In the condensed letters, M,N,H,No,W, and & just look like blobs. Maybe just my sheet, but who knows. Still have to decide the area of workings. Im thinking somewhere around the west midlands, maybe base my eventual (hopefully) layout around some manufacturing industry there.
  18. Thanks. And the plane wasnt too much of a shock. When it broke I actually started laughing.
  19. So yeah, for a brief 3 days I had a flying model plane. Then last Sunday, It took a graceful nosedive and the wings ripped through the fuselage. It was KIA over the fields of Smith Road. A moment of silence [insert silence here]. Aaaaand Im back. Decals arrived. Started redoing my PO wagon. The U is a little crooked because I was a bit afraid that the 5 letters wouldnt fit. They do, and apparently U isnt a common enough letter to warrant more than 4 on the HMRS sheet. Well. I can live with it. My railway, and I say the painter was drunk. Haha. I also bought a small plastic model of a Sopwith Camel, just to keep me busy. It was cheap, so why not.
  20. The loco looks very nice. Id love to see it finished. These earlier locos always look so unique to me.
  21. Mainly Trains:great fast shipping, even overseas! Ordered wednesday, arrived monday.

Yeah. I ordered just one sheet of press-fix so that may have been a part of it, but in the past UK to US takes at least a week. This was less. I was so amazed to find it in my mailbox today. I would send them an email and ask about shipping to Aus. Might be a really good idea for you.

Ha ha, I bet that was spectacular ? Sorry I laughed but it took me back to my childhood, when we watched a friends of ours fly his petrol engined spitfire, it went up and round and then down, down, down bang, propellor first Into the field surface, smashed to smithereens, he almost cried and 5 or 6 us 10 & 11 year olds just gawped as it happened, and then laughed but said "that was greeeeeat Martin, do it again"

No its fine to laugh. I did too to be honest. It wasnt too labour intensive anyway. A week of my life and $20 from an amazon gift card. And I already have plans for another. Next one Id like to fit with full RC gear.

  23. Wow. Forgot about this a bit. Not much work done due to materials. I gave up on the water slides and ordered some press fix letters which don't come off when you put the next one on. Just need to wait for them. I also have built a Guillows balsa kit in the past week. She flew...sorta... Pics on my flickr if interested. When the decals come in I can get back to work and maybe finish the wagon before the semesters over. Though I still need a home location for my PO wagon...thats the hard part...hmm...
  24. Ordered pressfix letters. Probably will be a week till I get them. Planes almost flight ready. And i have to write essays...
